Your 'what-ifs' are interesting ideas... but according to him, he didn't download the movie. So, unless you can prove otherwise, I think he has a pretty valid case. Stating that he owns the DVD doesn't serve as proof that he didn't download it, but it seems to eliminate the incentive, don't you agree? Anyone with enough money to fight the MPAA's lawyers has enough money, and probably enough sense, to buy the DVD instead of downloading it.
Unfortunately, if you're voting Libertarian, you might as well be throwing your ballot in the garbage can. Besides, I'm not convinced that any party is the answer to a systemic problem. I think individuals can be the answer though. Be choosy about who you vote for, sure, but not based on party.
Great solution, but with all due thanks to Bush we're going to have a completely Democratic President and Congress pretty soon. And the march of inane laws will continue...
Oh yeah, just like that? Well I'm going to buy one, and it's probably going to be a great system, no doubt. But the name is still stupid. And unlike Dick Butkus and Engelbert Humperdinck, "Wii" wasn't chosen by somebody's parents at birth. It was chosen by people who are paid thousands of dollars a year to choose the right name and who should have known better.
Of course it also depends on what you want to do with your page. Do you want to share your life, or whore yourself to the masses with drunken orgy pics?;) And if we tend toward the latter, then what does that say about us as a society? aiyaaaa!
With freedom comes responsibility. Web designers have the freedom to create but the responsibility to know more about HTML and uploading files than the average person. Plus, having constraints can induce creativity sometimes. It's counterintuitive, but think about how a challenge like redesigning myspace would appeal to someone who knows CSS already. Hacking into a computer is another example of creativity bred from constraints.
This seems pretty shortsighted to me. If you were around in 1997 you probably remember how horrid most personal websites were at the time. I even have a copy of my first website somewhere and it looks very amateur. But I remember that as my learning point. As I got more familiar with HTML i got better at design and doing what I really wanted to do with it.
Truth be told, myspace has a very bad editor, and as editing becomes more intuitive I imagine people will start to do what they really want to do with their pages. You will see less horrible sites as it becomes less of a novelty--people will stop "playing" with sites like myspace and start contributing useful information and art.
Interestingly enough, the article on Digg mentions that an alternate possibility was that the speed of light has slowed down, which coincidentally is one of the arguments that has been made by Setterfield and others for the apparent distance of stars in our galaxy.
I'm guessing that the baggage checker didn't really notice the "This is a test" and called in to report the bomb. He'd be too embarrassed to admit it's his fault rather than the software, and it's so much easier to blame the software and get away with it, because most people don't know how it works.
Unfortunately I've run into a few problems myself. I had an R51 that would shut off randomly. I had a T41 and an R51 that would lock up when the power was pulled out or put in. I had some R51s that would lock up when wireless was detected (that issue was fixed by a driver update). These machines aren't perfect, but overall I think they're a solid choice compared to the others out there. I started buying onsite warranties, because the service is still very good, and ultimately laptops are very complex, so no matter what brand you buy, that is probably the most important thing. I sent the laptops to the repair center (depot repair) and it was fixed and shipped back the next day, and have had no problems with it since. I also have about 10 T42s and T43s that have had no problems whatsoever (we stopped buying the R series). So, I think overall it's still a good brand.
Come to think of it, most of the problems I had were with IBM branded laptops, right before the switch was made to Lenovo. So, maybe the Quality Control wasn't as good during the switch. Any other experiences to note?

why "fluoxetine hydrochloride" is known as "Prozac".
Nothing makes you wanna say "Wii" like Prozac...

Sounds like there's a lot more tongue-probing in science than IT. I'm switching fields.
I'm curious, why is it that you get a score of 2 for every post you make, while i get a score of 1? Do moderators do that, or is it a result of karma?
What, sleeping with patent holders? I imagine it works for some people...
Ok smarty, what's the digit at position infinity? Hey, it keeps changing... ;P
I was trying to be +5 Funny, not +2 Informative... Geez guys :(
I only know 60, I got lazy.
Geez I know, and I spent the last 10 years memorizing the first 10,000 digits. If Pi was not constant, then what a waste!!!
I question your logic on that one.

Mod parent up!!! hahaha thanks for that :)
You could say that Linus patched the Linux kernel "for" the virus, so that it would run better. ;)

As I recall, these attributes are considered to be a good thing within the Open Source community.
Yeah, but that's because they actually release their stuff from time to time.
And they definitely can't name the 10th planet "Nike" since it's already copyrighted.
