I had a run in with Anshe when she was new in SL. My partner and I had just bought a parcel of land from a club owner to have space to build and mess around. BigJohn was his name I think. Well the poor man set it with $L1 as my partner paid him with real cash (I know.. wtf, we fought over that one) and didn't set anyone on the list of who could buy. Along comes a 2 day old Anshe and buys it right in front of him, my partner and myself.
Long story short BigJohn had to contact LL and go through a grievance process as Anshe wouldn't speak to anyone on the matter, nor sell it back for less than 15k. We ended up getting it back, but her name stuck in my head as a sneaky unreasonable @#$$^. I haven't been on SL in a year or so. It's kind of sad I'm reading about her after all this time doing things like this, I'd had doubts that I'd been fair. Maybe I was. Then again, she makes decent money selling fake land. =P
I have a teeny tiny living room in my apartment (split in half to make a 3rd bedroom) and 1 60W incandescent bulb lights it up nicely. However, the 13W CFL I replaced it with doesn't light it up as well
In other news Steve O'Hear claims that unless the major webmail accounts consolidate, users will soon tire of webmail. I don't think so.
Sure maintaining profiles on multiple SN sites takes more work than one. The SN whores will go through the process because they don't mind. Those that mind will keep a profile on perhaps one or two sites.
Actually, somewhere I read a plausible explanation for that. The sound was only heard when the guns were loaded/cocked. Hundreds of years in the future, would it not be reasonable to expect that incremental improvements had been made to firearms? Replacing the primer/cap with a form of electronic ignition that would further increase the reliability of the gun would probably be a relatively small and easy to do. There were lasers in alliance hands, but in one of the episodes (the one where they defend the whorehouse) Mal meets with Burches and is shown his laser, Mal queries him on the legality of owning such a weapon.
I had the impression that most of the technology and implications of it had been well thought out.
The man is so convinced that google/youtube will fail, he's actually going to jump in the ring to try to make it happen? Umm... Someone should just give this guy a hobby.
Agreed on all points. But there are options. As to why there aren't any decent native multiplayer shared screen games... No idea, but that would be nice.
I run into this issue as well. My two external usb drives do it, as well as my shuffle and my thumb drive. With the fat32 FS though, it behaves as if the perms were 700. i.e. it's necessary to do
Not to mention that the lack of a global magnetic field allows erosion of Mars' atmosphere. Without something to prevent that, the planning of a longterm terraforming solution on the red planet is a waste of time.
Yeah, but has anyone here had their T.V. cease to function after a few months because it decided that it had been shoplifted? I can only imagine consumer outcry if suddenly entire hordes of Walmart T.V.s began asking their owners to pay for them again as they were shutting down to the limited functionality of only displaying infomercials 24/7.
Mozilla also wants Debian patches to be submitted to them before distribution, and claims that's what others (Red Hat and Novell) are already doing. But some believe development and releases will slow down if distribution-specific patches have to be checked and accepted first.
Please tell me someone else found the humor in that?
Solar = Limit to size, due to power requirements. That would translate to a lack of some tools which would aid research, shorten the mission time, range and available paths.
Are we to avoid using a technology because it has the word "nuclear" in it? RTG's are a relatively safe source of energy and have been proven to withstand to launch failures.
The fact that the current generation of mars rovers have lasted nearly 1000 days is luck. The folks working with them have done some great work anticipating issues.... But in all reality there's a million things that could have gone wrong, and the power system is definitely one of the key areas. Who else here remembers reading about the mysterious "cleaning effect" that had occured which made the 900 some odd days possible. We can't count on luck every time, and why should we keep the scale of exploration vehicles down due to an irrational fear of a word.
I might be being too optimistic about it, but hey.
You may not care about Joe Blow. But someone obviously does. Why else keep improving KDE and Gnome? Why implement a HAL? Most of us here are comfortable in a terminal and fluxbox. The Linux movement isn't just about providing an environment for geeks and elitists to hack around in. Nor is it meant to be simply a kick ass alternative server OS. It's about furthering the idea of open standards and open formats. Isn't the desktop OS the most lacking in this department? Sure they've got SMB working, but what about video drivers from ATI/NVIDIA? I'm positive that there are quite a number of people here who still dual boot into windows for particular games whether it's because of driver issues or simply because winex doesn't run the game to their satisfaction.
To push these companies to start to support linux better, they need to see a userbase that makes it worth the effort and money. To get the userbase, linux may have to make concessions. Is that so wrong?
So he hasn't shown any groundbreaking new gadgets at a developer conference. Look at Apples growth in the last five years. 'Nuff said. I'm sure a majority of/.ers are more than familiar with the cyclic nature of development. Of course there are points where no groundbreaking tech is being put out. MS is somewhat at that point right now, waiting to finish up vista. I definitely wouldn't claim that MS was fading away because of this.

I think I can see the source of your problem.

You'd be pissed off at humans too if they reset you every time you got close to figuring out wtf was going on.
Serious note though, that is kinda creepy. I'd hope it would simply stem from us poking and prodding the ai experiments.
Thanks man, just spent the last ten minutes cleaning gatorade out of my keyboard.
We need a variation of Funny, something that warns unwary readers to swallow all articles of food and drink prior to reading.

I'll reword it. Matches create a stable plasmoid at one atmosphere when placed inside of a microwave. Plasmoid/Plasma ball. Eh....
How can they benefit from Linux being threatened when their entire business is revolving around Linux these days??
Simple.... Exclusivity. If MS goes after all the distros who haven't signed up with them, Novel stands to gain.
What business will use a distro if MS has documented infringement by that distro?

zsnes + usb gamepads.. My comp has more than 4 usb ports. Alternately you can use the netplay feature with friends online.
Microsoft, on the other hand, is very good at closing the door shut.
One word.... IE6
I do agree to a point though.
Helium-3 as a
