The version of webmail software used by the Iraqi ISP is known to have several security holes -- but the patches available for them do not appear to have been applied.

Sell way high to start with and recoup development costs from the early adopters with pots of cash (plus its Christmas), and then drop down to a sensible (?!) price.
The fact the media gives loads of free advertising to it when the initial production run is finished and the machine is market tested is the icing on the cake.
Examples where this has happened before? The Sony Clie, PSX, Dreamcast, PS2, lots of hifis.. if its desirable home entertainment, then this is the obvious sales plan.
Well, I totally know where you're coming from. I was in the same boat, some years ago, and while I was younger, I don't think it makes that much difference.
First of all, you have to decide what you're looking for:
big Sys Admin job at a big company
only Sys Admin job at a small company
one of a few Sys Admins at a medium sized company
I have worked been a member of a 900+ IT staff, and quickly realized it wasn't for me...too little slice of the pie, work-wise, and so I went back to a small company, and am once again very happy.
As far as certifications go, I'm not a big believer in them. When there was a massive crunch for IT folks a couple of years ago, it may have been a good thing, as it would help one get one's foot in the door. Now, I believe that it might be a waste of your time/money.
The best way to learn Unix Sys Admin'ing is to do it...set up a machine (or 3) at home, and start using them on a daily (or evening;) basis, and when you run in to problems ("What are these weird NFS version errors in the logs between Solaris and Linux?"), hit google and work through them. That affords you real experience, which will payoff in the future (IMO).
Lastly, the best jobs I've ever had were found by word of mouth. Don't discount asking around (user groups meetings, etc.). Maybe you'll even end up at a tech company, not in a Sys Admin roll, but in some other capacity, at which time you'll be able to make friendships with the Sys Admins and possibly move in to that department in the near future.
I still visit/. because they do still have good stuff to offer; I've just had to use their filters to keep the garbage from clouding my view.
Amazon still offers great prices on books. Who cares about the stupid 1-Click thing...I'm sure Pepsi Co does much worse stuff, and I doubt that CT has stopped drinking Mountain Dew!
Grow up, my millionaire friends!

PS- I don't mean to mislead you...I am *not* a millionaire!;)
The only way a.gnu TLD would be worth adding is if we, the Open Source community, somehow controlled it, so we could attempt to keep cybersquatters out, without compromising the freedom of it. Perhaps in order to GET a.gnu domain, you must PRODUCE something under the GNU Public License.
I completely agree with what you've said, but regarding the above quoted section, I think we already have that...it's known as gnu.org, and the if the FSF really thinks this is a worthy idea, they should take on the administrative duties themselves and start the naming convention of foo.gnu.org...but what do I know!;)
Independent stores have been suffering from the fact that students have cars for a long time now (and now web access to CDNOW/Amazon). Sales at "campustown" records stores have been declining steadily over the last 5+ years in these stores due to the fact that students no longer have to shop in the campustown area, but can now drive to Superplex shopping centers to purchase not only CDs, but other goods, as well (groceries, books, etc.). FUD, indeed!
Indeed! Seems *very* convenient that Katz hangs around Slashdot for awhile, writes a book/instant movie about Geeks, and now CmdrTaco and Hemos get the payoff for Katz's squatting.

Moral of the story? Wait and save.

HTH-good luck!
...Sweeping Generalizations"! If so, I'd have some papers on their way to /. right now. ;)
That comment was so silly, Hemos, I first assumed that Cmdr "Rob" Taco had posted it!
sad but true...thought we'd have 30 days to scramble!
Thank you so much for having said exactly what I, too, believe...but in a much less flamebait manner! ;)
Well done!

I doubt it's intentional...it's just Cmdr Taco.

His spelling is notoriously bad - his handle is Cmdr because he didn't know how to spell Commander!
