Can anyone tell my why it is that ICANN cares about various "religious conservative groups"? I'm sure they hold congress by the balls, but ICANN is a not-for-profit organization, non? They arn't part of the federal government, why don't they just add .xxx if they want to and it's technically feasable.

When I read the very misleading title I assumed that he had gotten 6 years for just sending spam. Turns out, he did things way worse than that, but still, when I read the title I was a little bit shocked. Six years!!! For spam!!! Ok, it's very annoying, but I would violently protest anyone getting anything more than a month for just sending spam. Does anyone know how long you actually get/how much you have to pay for sending spam?

When it comes to anthrax, it's really not about the death-count is it? Anthrax is the perfect scare weapon, remember back when people were getting the letters containing the stuff? As you say, almost no one died, but people were freaked out up the wazoo! Even here, in the cold north of Scandinavia, people started evacuating buildings every time someone got a letter with flour in it.

And that's what terrorism is all about isn't it? Terrorism was never about killing as many as possible, that goal is futile for terrorist organizations. No, terrorism is all about Terror, and there are few better ways to freak people out if they think that the mail can kill them.

If a letter containing just some dust can kill you, who of us is really safe?

I can't speak for everyone ofcourse, but me, I can usually tell after solving just about one layer (and I use the simplest method, but with some tweaks), which usually takes less than 15-20 seconds. You start to recognize the patterns pretty soon, and when you're twisting a faulty cube, you get the idea pretty soon that something is wrong. It isn't all that hard.

A couple of moves might be an understatement, that's true, what I really mean is a few algorithms :P Potato, Potahtoe :P

  11. Re:Friend of mine can do this on Rubik's Cube World Championships · · Score: 5, Informative

It's really not that hard to solve a cube in around a minute. You can learn the basic, layer by layer method in about a day, and after a few more, you've got it down to under two minutes. Then you just keep doing it to get it too about a minute, and all your friends will be amazed!! (it's seriously fun to do it on a subway, everybody looks in amazement :D) Too get a time consistantly under a minute, you probably need to learn more advanced methods, like for instance the petrus system or the friedrich system. Variations on the latter is what all the pros use, but it is murder to learn, you have to memorize around 100 algorithms!!! Myself, I've gotten down to about 30 secs using the standard, layer-by-layer and some of friedrich's algorithms. It really is alot of fun.

Wow, that was alot of incorrect in one post
    1) You factor large COMPOSITE numbers, not large prime numbers.
    2) P = NP is almost surely false. I mean, it's not proven, but it's not like anybody believes it to be true. It would just be too damn incredible if it were true.
    3) What do you mean "encryption wont be possible"??? Just because you can factor large numbers quickly, doensn't mean you can encrypt stuff. You can't use RSA, that's true, but there are other asymetric ciphers. AES will sure as hell still work. Worst case scenario, we'll just use one time pads and all will be dandy (for those of you who don't know, One time pad-ciphers (also called the Vernam cipher) is impossible to break if used correctly, and when I say impossible, I mean mathematically proved-no way no how-even when the aliens invade earth with super-super-computers will we be able to solve it)
