Boy, are you totally missing Jon Stewarts arguments.

His claim wasn't that Crossfire was biased, his claim was that Crossfire was political theater and nothing else. It was simply a show that featured people screaming their heads off at eachother, and Stewart argued that this is detrimental to the political climate. He said that it increased bi-partisanship, it increased disrespect for anyone not sharing all of ones views and it genereally increased division in America. He said that a news show has a responsibility to be clear, to be honest, to give every argument the time that it needed.

To this, Tucker Carlson responded "Well you went really easy on John Kerry. so you suck!", basically commiting all the sins Stewart had accused him off. The fact is this: it's not Jon Stewarts job to ask the hard questions. His job is to be entertaining, to provide a humorous commentary on the top stories in the news. When he has guests on, he treats them (unlike Carlson) with respect, he honestly asks their opinion and lets them give their views on different matters. If he debates them, he is kind and respectful, and he gives them the time to respond in a calm fashion. Tucker Carlson doesn't get this, because in his world-view, if you didn't mercilessly attack your guests, you're not doing your job. He is what is wrong with media in US today, and Stewart confronted him on it. And, to quote Stewart, he faught the law, and the law LOST!

The truth is that all Swedes know how to read English backwards and forwards. In the swedish school-system there are three subjects that are the most basic ones, the ones that everyone has to pass in, math, Swedish and English. We start to learn English at age 9 and then never stop until we finish high school. Along with the fact that the vast majority of movies and tv-shows are undubbed American programs, this makes us very proficient. This is especially true for people below the age of thirty, almost all of whom can understand English perfectly (if not always being able to speak it very well).

However, I would say that I am above average due to the fact that I went to an English high school in Stockholm where all subjects where taught in English (except Swedish, of course). So yes, it is certainly true that I tend to prefer international English sites over Swedish ones. Still, I have a number of friends that arn't as good as me that are completely addicted to YouTube, and they've never mentioned Bubblare.se. I realise that this isn't the largest statistical sample, but based on this I seriously doubt that the site is as big as they claim. Totally unscientific, I know, but I can say that they haven't achieved that most coveted of honors, that of being a meme. YouTube however, certainly has.

What's even more exasperating about this situation is that Kerry wouldn't have had the power to change the abortion laws and Bush hasn't done a damn thing about them either. This makes the "my body my right" crowd just as idiotic. Abortion is always a steaming political debate right around an election and then subsides to nothing during the term because the trimester laws aren't budging.

The logical step is to not even base your vote on the abortion stance. Of course, none of the voters are logical.

I agree with many (most) of the points you made, but here I have to object. First off, you are wrong in saying that the President hasn't done anything to try to stop abortion; he has. Justice Alito and Chief Justice Roberts. Right now there is a five to four majority on the court in favour of abortion (the four liberals + Kennedy who voted for abortion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey), a number that has decreased by one this year. It is probable that one of the liberal justices (most likely Stevens, since he is as old as gravel) will die or resign during the next presidency. It is therefore crucial that the next president (and indeed the next senate) is pro-choice, because that is what will decide the legality of the right to an abortion.

Second, even if it didn't matter what the presidents stand was (as I said, it does, but now I'm going hypothetical), it is still an enormously important issue. You can tell a lot about a person just judging their stance on abortion. If they're pro-life, they're obviously anti-science religious zealots, because no rational person would say that a collection of cells without anything near counciousness can possibly be called a human being. Frankly, as a human being, I'm offended by that. Second, it's a clear issue when it comes to your personal stance on feminism. Unlike what most people think, feminism is a good thing. It is undeniable that women are being wildly discrimintated against, and that's what feminism is all about; fighting gender discrimination. In my book, if you're not a feminist, you are just as bad as a racist. That simple. The notion that a woman shouldn't be able to choose what happens to her own body, because of some arcane rules and rituals inherited from a frightingly patriarchical society is repulsive to me. I could never respect a person who took that stance. Never.

PS: As a total side note, the religious argument that "life begins when the sperm meets the egg" is actually completely contrary to what the bible says. Exodus, 21:22: "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine." That is, if a man causes a woman to miscarry, is he punished as a murderer, as he should be if life begins at the embryo stage? He is not, he has to pay a fine. A fine! It's essentially a property damage! The Bible doesn't value fetuses like humans, the value fetuses like, well, livestock! God dammit, I really hate hypocracy.

Go by bus whenever you can, stay at cheap and lousy B&Bs, see all the wonders of the world? It's the greatest experience you'll ever have as young man/woman (well, losing your cherry...), and for that books are pretty much a must have. In those travels, a bus travel that takes 7-8 hours is a short one, and you take a lot of them. Foreign languages are the only languages, and the beaches are not used for scenery, the beaches are a break from the scenery. They look the same all over the world and there are millions of them, but there's only one Machu Pichu, only one Angkor Vat, only one Papal Palace of Avignon and only one Checkpoint Charlie. If you're the kind of person who travels to foriegn cultures and great cities only to lie on the beach all day, you should save your money and go to a tanning salon, because frankly: what's the difference.

Believe me, when you travel that way, books arn't just for diversion, books are food. You eat them up, because at those times, culture is water, you have to have it.

If you are an avid reader and go backpacking, you can easily finish 10 books in three-four weeks at the very most. Finishing a 300-page book on a 7-8 hour bus-ride isn't that great of a feat, and if you spend any time on beaches you can speed through most literature that isn't Finnegans Wake.

For people who love to read, and do it relatively fast, this is a major issue. If you're in China, it's not always easy to find good books in english. And if you don't, you can look forward to many, many, many boring hours of point A to point B.

Everything is easy to find, the layout is very logical, it highlights the portions that you need at every moment, and last but not least: it's very pretty. It's actually something that MS has done right, it's shocking!

There is a learning curve, but it's not a very long one. After five minutes of clicking I knew basically where everything were (a vast improvement over the old "hunt through the menus till you find what you want"-approach, here you can actually find stuff where they should be). Note that this isn't the entire MBR, just the first 446 bytes of it (its 512 bytes long). This backups only the booting-code and not the partition-table (which you may have changed during install). Then pop in a LiveCD, mount your drive and execute
    dd if=mbr.backup of=/dev/xxx bs=446 count=1
And you have your old nice bootloader back. In both examples, replace xxx with the name of your drive.

It's not optimal, but it's a decent way to preserve your grub when installing a microsoft OS on your hard-drive.
