I guess I can attest to XM not honoring cancellation requests. They've sent me several bills since I canceled the service about a year ago, and I've just kind of ignored them.
Recently, I got a letter informing me that my account was being suspended due to an outstanding balance. I found that kind of funny.
I wanted to make a counterstrike map of my school when I was around 12, for the same reasons I wanted to make a map of my house - not because I wanted to shoot people up, but because I thought it'd be fun to play in a familiar environment, and because it'd be interesting to walk around in a 3D representation of the world in which I live.
Hell, my mom was even proud of my attempts to render my house in Hammer editor.
While the parent thread is embarrassing, I guess I made the point. I think that being well versed in this sort of thing is becoming more attractive to younger people, and any stigma associated with being a geek is dying off.
However, that's just what I alone have seen in my high school, so I can't say if that's a widespread trend or something more isolated. I'd like to hear more of what others have to say on this.
Won't be able to find XP by the end of this year? Will be stuck with vista by the end of this year?
That's okay; I've been going around explaining to my friends why they'd much prefer alternate operating systems to these two, i.e. Ubuntu (pls not flaimbait, I don't know enough about anything to be whoring any one distro).
They listen to me. Good move, MS, discontinue XP as you bring out 'teh Vista! Nah, see, even the illiterates I've talked to say they don't like Vista. MS jumped the gun.
Anyways, to make things clear (too drunk to know what's what. i know this ain't clear but draw from itw what you will), I'm 18 and I'm in high school. I know little 'nough about UNIX and others though I'm a fast learner. Fast enough to have convinced a friends that there's more out there than Microsoft has to offer. They trust me and will allow me to install alternatives and get them going. Hey, that's a trend! I've watched it spread first and even secondhand. Many people I know my age and younger are becoming well versed in this stuff and are bringing others.:]
The one time that my family ever called an ambulance, they told us, "dystonic reaction or not, he's not going to get preferential treatment at the ER just for coming in an ambulance."
They came around 20 minutes later and took their sweet time asking my mother questions while I writhed on the floor, and we've driven ourselves to the ER since.
I guess, in a situation like that, I'd rather take my chances with a parent who'd had a drink or two than wait for the ambulance.
I don't mind Pac Man being named violent. That only serves to make ridiculous the claims that other violent video games have a negative impact on kids.
Also, if Centipede is really 97% violent, where does that put Grand Theft Auto? It can't be much higher than 97%; now imagine being told to keep your kids away from such games as Centipede and Grand Theft Auto.
How do you think a book store "accidentally" sold 15 copies of a book that was widely publicized to be released at a later date? And if they accidentally released it early, why did only 15 copies sell?
He said if a similar tool could be produced for newspapers, it would not be accepted by consumers.
"You'd go to your local corner shop and buy the daily paper, and you'd have these large holes where the ads were.
"You'd somehow feel like your 25 cents had not gotten full value," he said.
This makes it sound like people are given adblocking tools without their consent. He tries to sound like people are being victimized by this and he's bringing some horrible mistreatment to light. This is a horrible analogy with a poorly masked agenda.
I guess if we want to do it, we'll have to use home-made emulsions on paper.
Actually, more and more of the companies that make liquid film emulsion are switching to digital as well.
It's kind of sad, because my photography teacher has less and less to be able to teach his kids each year. That's part of why he's retiring and our school is replacing photography with digital photography.

I know; it's okay. Times, they are a changin', eh?

Filesharing becomes as easy as sneezing!

It may be commonly used, but it's not used correctly.
The only people it affects clearly believe *everything* they read on the internet, irregardless of source.
People believe everything they read on the internet, with regards to source?

These pair of babies will make you the geekest of all times
That's got to be the funniest variation on a common phrase that I have ever seen.
Grab the Extended Prefs plugin here and you can change all of the font sizes. I nearly went blind without it.
I'm using 1.5.0 and the file transfers have actually been fixed.
Here.
The Andromeda Strain, or a lot of other books by Michael Crichton.
Someone is going to find the sandwhich in some refrigerator, and it's going to be great.
Who else here did a Baidu search for "democracy"?
Point it in the general direction, and launch.
It's like a message in a bottle, but so much cooler.
I tried that Who Links to Me thing and got -1 links to my site.
I hope this doesn't mean something's going to happen to that extra gig gift they gave us in gmail.

You're arguing rhetoric here... how much does it really matter?
