A Chinese friend has showed me one of the knockoffs and they are not that bad.
I would love to meet the people who engineer these knockoffs.:) What are their design processes, manufacturing deals, etc. Sadly this information probably avoids daylight as Apple would sue their ass.
I'm getting the idea that the post is a troll since the nvidia drivers are just as capable on nearly every OS they are available for.
No one would bother to craft a lame troll like that. I myself also found surprising that his setup was not supported properly, but I simply do not suspect that the post is a troll.
It's honestly sad that is like that in Linux. Hell, it used to be the OS that used to be much more lightweight than Windows. And here I am typing this on a AMD C-60 -based 10.1" netbook on Windows 7, with DWM and Aero with all effects enabled. No performance problems and window animations are butter smooth. With a netbook under Linux, even the stupid window minimize zoom animation is jerky. To get the Windoze-like performance, you have to go all way down to some humble XFCE or LXDE setup with no modern-day effects. I hope this all will be sorted out in the future with Wayland or Mir helping with things. I mean, you don't have to fill you desktop with wobbly windows and stardust but a little bit of eye candy and with compositing is nice to have and is clearly not technically impossible even on lightweight hardware.
Ok, Linux needs help in the video department, but its more the fault of the manufacturers who want to keep their code licensed in such a way that it exludes OSS.
To me (and to the submitter, I bet) it's more important to get accelerated multi-monitor going than the code being open source.
I had an edit revoked when I removed some info about the small town I live in. It said it was devastated by fire in the 1927, but there was never a fire of any kind. I was told I need a citation. A citation of something that didn't happen, nice..
Or being asked to find a citation for the claim "most of the compact fluorescents sold on the retail market have a color temperature of 2700K". I mean... it's not that I can find a research publication tailored to just address a common daily fact like that.
Considering trying to shillpedia is a waste of time to begin with, i cant recall a single edit on any one article i ever attempt to add to or correct mistake that wasnt reverted in 12 seconds by one guy who has claimed sole ownership of every article about a particular subject.
Actually I've found the English Wikipedia to be much more relaxed than my native Finnish edition, on which the snipers seem to be always on watch. Don't know how it is in other languages.
But you are right that the general atmosphere of Wikipedia gives a bit of a unwelcoming taste to some random guy trying contributing for the first time.
I'm sure the markup language will always remain an option for those who want to use it. It definitely should.
However even if you are proficient with it, editing pages can be hard as it's sometimes simply too hard to see what you are doing. Just browse through the source of page "Linux" for example. Especially due to long citation definitions, some of the chapters are quite jarring to see. Here WYSIWYG comes to rescue.
So when you are done downloading it, take the time to donate, so maybe the 5.0 release can afford a bigger cake.
This! Microsoft's stronghold on the Office front requires competition and the world in general needs an open office suit (creating documents is a basic task). Making software is hard and sponsoring it gives a nice boost to advance development.
During last days I have bumped to the "ubuntuforums.org is down for maintenance" message several times while googling some Linux stuff. I never realized before that I visit that site so often.
My father found some crossword puzzles filled with a jittery handwriting inside the company van. It turned out that his colleague does them on the steering wheel when there is a straight enough road ahead.
In almost every Slashdot article for the past century I have seen this mysterious message which includes random words with "BSD" there somewhere. Who is the stubborn party behind these spams and how can they still get through?
It's not that everything made in China is cheap crap. They target the quality and price point that the customer orders.

That is possible.

glxgears -fullscreen runs at 60FPS. Good enough for my eyes.
Facepalm... ;)
Subby, you have posted the stupidest Ask Slashdot question ever!
And you posted the stupidest Slashdot comment ever. Gratz!

The current NT 6 core of Windows is quite nice.
An article for WinNT turning 20, but nothing for Slackware when it did the same 10 days ago? What is wrong with you, Slashdot?
Wait, don't answer that...
You could have submitted it to Slashdot. That's how this place runs...
Most of my edits now on wikipedia remain unreverted as I always include at least one good cite, doesn't help for /. though.
Indeed, for /. it is quite the opposite. ;) The more crazy, completely unverified facts you can pull, the better.
That is true and sad. :/
How does a mobile device paired to a Bluetooth keyboard suck for editing text?
At that point we might as well using a small laptop, and have no need to specialized mobile editing tools.
Interesting. :O Cause here in Finlandia you really have to dig deep to find 4000K+ stuff.

It greatly contributes to the danger that iPhone's cover material is aluminum rather than plastic.

A lunch pad could be a great feature. Especially as breadcrumbs can no more get inside the keyboard thanks to touchscreens.

Yes, it can. :)
The performance of DOSBox is quite good actually. It even has a "dynamic" core which means parts of code is executed on the host when possible.
But then again, many BASIC interpreters are not very high-performance to begin with.
All in all, you should get a rather nice authentic GWBASIC experience under DOSBox.
