What is problematic with DSL and Puppy is that they are a mishmash of various programs with different toolkits. While somewhat heavier, I prefer XFCE or LXDE based distros as they bring a more consistent experience.
That's the nature of computers. They advance much, much faster than other types of electronics. The most important thing is to keep proper recycling going on.
On the other hand, hardware released just after P4 is not in that dire situation at all. Core Duo stuff (2006 or so) are still fine for basic desktops.
My prediction is that no, they wouldn't set up a distro only for Steam. Much rather they limit the official compatibility only for Ubuntu.
However it was expected to discussions like this to come. Steam games are a great test for how desktop Linux can handle third party stuff. Closed-source software, DLL compatibility, audio interface, graphics card drivers.
Even if everything doesn't go completely smoothly from the get-go, the whole project will give various benefits to the Linux ecosystem and, for sure we will get some great new titles to the very lacking collection of Linux games.
You have a point there. I mean, why would any company need any extra appreciation. Buying and using their products should be enough. Because of this reason, being a fan of some company in Facebook is usually a bit retarded too, I think.
It's interesting to see where the company will end up in the hands of Tim Cook. For now Apple can just make "more of the same" but that trick can't work forever.
The headline is a bit misleading. They did not convert a Wifi station to a spy device, but created a completely separate device to interpret Wifi signals and their reflections in a building.
Windows 98 is contemporary for my 1Ghz P3, Windows 7 is for my 3.3Ghz i5. It's not just clockspeeds at the CPU either - faster buses, solid state drives, better code, more hardware optimisations in the software.
Additionally, clockspeed is horrible for doing even rough comparisons of performance. If you underclocked that i5 to only 500MHz, the single-core performance would still easily beat the 1GHz P3.
Now remember that this is all coming from “a source close to Palmer”
So possibly Palmer's only been dreaming next to a pint of Foster's "Aaaahhh...wouldn't it be awesome if we could build something like Jurassic Park. Next round is on me."
This. Pretty much all desktop environments in Linux world are released way too early in mainline distro releases, while their quality is still something that would be counted as alpha or beta level if they were commercial software!
Into the trash it went, and I now use a Logitech M305, which has been rock solid.
I also have Logitech M305. Very good basic mouse.
By the way, Logitech is a Swiss company. I recently checked the bottom of an optical USB version of the Pilot Wheel Mouse from 2004, and it's made in Hungary. But I suppose the newer stuff all comes from P.R.C.
It would be awesome to create some open hardware gaming console with much more humble specs than the big ones (PS3 etc.), but something that one person could tackle. Make full specs available, open source OS, build a community and so on. It would be a wonderful artistic platform to create stuff on.
I regularly buy HumbleBundle games even if I don't play them just to support developers who treat customers right.
If you don't like to play them, then you are at the same time giving the message that you can release any uninteresting games if they just are not wrapped in DRM or other bullshit.
Exactly. When a individual screws up, he loses his summer cabin, children, dog and job. But when a company does so, everything continues pretty much the same...it shouldn't be like that. Companies should be tools for us, not the other way around.

Hey, that's pretty cool!

Parted Magic should work even better.

And no HTTPS support.
That still counts as something unusual. Most LCDs are TN panels and especially laptops typically have horrible black levels.
Maybe, but that's just the desserts. The main course can be found in PCs running Fedora Beefy Miracle and ScummVM Picnic Basket.

Does anyone have an update as to how the Titanic project is now doing?
Since when packaging something is newsworthy?
Since couple of weeks ago... :)

If you like old school type games such as Monkey Island, be sure to check stuff from Wadjet Eye Games.
So, sonny, let me take a look at where we are. Gaaahh! *drives off the road*

Hahaha! A good one, indeed. Whoever wrote that to the summary, should be in marketing, if not already.
We could additionally ask, should there be more rigorous limitations as to what browser plugins can do.

Seems that it's possibly just an insecurely written browser plugin rather than an intentional rootkit.
