  1. Re:mirror on NASA BlueMarble: Next Generation · · Score: 1

Because we really couldn't see that in the original post's text. ;)

  2. k... on South Korea Introducing Robotic Teachers · · Score: -1, Offtopic

  3. I hope to one day be fossilized on 20 Million Year Old Spider Found · · Score: 5, Funny

So one day, thousands (millions?) of years from now some scientists will be looking at my pale, naked body inside a shell of delicious hardened maple syrup, in which I died doing what I loved.

Then they'd bring me to some scientific symposium, and present me up on stage.

"Here you can see an ancient human, most likely in the 'geek' class. You can tell by his white skin, lack of muscles, and raw skin on his penis from over-masturbation"

    *Audience oooh's and aaah's*

  4. 99 cents is already too much on Music Industry Threatens to Pull Plug on Apple · · Score: 1, Interesting

Especially when I can get it in a much friendlier format for free.

Now, I'm not trying to advocate piracy of any sorts in this post. But EVERYBODY knows about the popular P2P networks. If you raise the prices, more people will stop buying.

It is like the classic supply and demand scenario, but there isn't much demand, and the guy next door is handing out stuff for free.

  5. IANAL, but... on New Dismissal Motion in File Sharing Case · · Score: 2, Interesting

makes no attempt to describe the specific acts of infringement

Now, IANAL, but how much more descriptive can you be? They're practically handing them a printout with what illegal files had been being shared, are they not? What else is necessary?

  6. Gahrewjhrjkhare on Law Enforcement Targets Online Communication · · Score: 5, Insightful

which means providing access to law enforcement for trap-and-trace on all traffic on broadband connections.

Goddamnit, I swear, the last few decades in America have been more like an Orwell book than the books themselves.

I'm moving up to Canada, the worst they have there is stray polar bears. Who's coming with me?

    b. Does the post concern VOIP?
    c. Does the post concern Microsoft in a negative manner?
    d. Does the post concern Apple and/or Linux in a positive manner?
    e. Does the post concern any randomly picked open source product?
e2. Bonus points if nobody has ever heard of it before.
    f. Does the post rate Firefox as the best internet browser?
    g. Does the post blatantly state or strongly suggest that the modern world is stripping away our rights?
    h. Does the post discuss a minor nuisance that IT geeks may or may not have personally experienced?
    i. Is the post asking a question that can only truly be answered by a lawyer, or other professional, who would likely not be found on Slashdot?

  8. Maybe I should be more assertive... on PSP Firmware Downgrader Released · · Score: 2, Funny

The next one who will say shot about him or any respectable devlopper will get my kick on his ass.

    I like it!

  9. Well, not really... on The Decline Of The Desktop · · Score: 4, Interesting

In these days, there are public computers just about everywhere you turn. Public libraries, schools, internet cafes, I've even seen some coffee shops which have a few usable desktops. Not to mention that almost all people have their own PC.

I don't think portability should be a huge concern. Personally, I wouldn't even consider buying a laptop until they are guaranteed a much longer battery life. 2 or 3 hours max while playing something like WoW? No thank you!

Seriously though, I hope these rulings keep coming. Although it is wrong to pirate music and other media, you shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars in fines.
