Before anyone suggests it, I got this job after writing my browser speed tests article, and it was not biased. Opera performed well in the tests because Opera performs well. As for whether writing the article contributed towards me getting a job... well... maybe just a little bit, but if so, I hope it was because of the effort that went into the honest researching. Considering how many Opera articles I have already written, it is fairly obvious that those were the influential ones, and not the browser speed tests article. I have already had enough of Mozilla/Firefox users dismissing the article simply because I am an Opera user. Please just accept that your browser is slower. My personal choice of browser has nothing to do with it. It really is not that big of a deal. Opera is already good, I do not feel any need to make it appear better than it is.
Yes, performance per watt is exactly what Apple needed to improve. For notebooks this is a crucial factor; it determines how much power the notebook uses to provide a certain performance. This power usage is directly related to battery usage and notebook-heating - which is where Apple's notebooks had issues.
As for performance in general, well that always needs to be improved, this is a given.
Intel's Pentium M (and successor Core) has in just a couple of years become the de facto standard for notebook processors - a testament to the fact that performance per watt is a crucial factor for notebooks. Of course performance as a factor on its own is also important. Create a processor that strikes a good balance between these two factors and you have a winner. Enter the Core.
Many people claim that what's so great about VLC is that it doesn't need codecs to playback video files. Yay! Well, that's just not true, in fact, that's quite impossible. All video files are encoded somehow, and in order to playback the video it must be decoded first. Hence the codec.
VLC uses the libavcodec codec to decode video. This codec handles a lot of different formats (see list) where codecs usually just handle one format. This approach has benefits and drawbacks. The obvious benefit is that the codec-hunting days of yore can be dispensed with. The less-than-obvious drawback is that a multi-purpose tool is almost never as good as a dedicated tool. The truth is that VLC very often doesn't playback video with the same quality as players using dedicated codecs.
I recommend using a player with dedicated codecs. I use BSPlayer, as it is easy on the resources, stable, with extensive, configurable features (it is ugly though, so change the skin for your own sake). Other players are probably just as good, but after having tried all the popular ones, this is my favorite. Install codecs only when necessary; use GSpot to figure out which is needed. Do not use codec packs, they are evil.
This being said, I do use VLC as a can opener for the occasional weird video file. For this use, VLC is great!
The Mosquito Magnets network isn't cheap, and it also poses some demands for technological expertise. The solution is nature's own mosquito magnets. This will work best in redneck country where nature's own mosquito magnets are plentiful.
I hate this place. This zoo. This prison. This reality, whatever you want to call it, I can't stand it any longer. It's the smell, if there is such a thing. I feel saturated by it. I can taste your stink and every time I do, I fear that I've somehow been infected by it.
In january 1998 a 13 year old faroese girl received a blood transfusion contaminated with HIV. She was treated with powerful anti-HIV drugs (zidovudine, lamivudine, and indinavir) for 9 months, when the treatment was stopped because of the strong side effects.
HIV was never found in her blood. She received a compensation of DKK 750,000 (~$120,000).

I don't believe I said that people should vote for the Democrats? Indeed a two party system is destined to converge into an identical-twin-party system, because they try to hit the majority public opinion. Having multiple parties, where no single party can get complete control, ensures that compromises will have to made across parties, and opinions.
A third party is a good idea only in theory. The existing parties are far too big to lose control to a third party. Here's an idea; split the two parties into two, so that 4 parties emerge, none of which may use the Republican or Democrat names. Then give them each a big bag of money for campaigning and make it illegal to accept further campaign funding.
Alas, americans have been brainwashed with the idea that opposing the government is somehow wrong. Nothing could be more incorrect.

That is not a gun-type trigger. That part that looks like a firing pin is actually more plutonium, which on impact will be fired into the larger mass of plutonium; thus creating a critical mass.
It's the same principle that is used in all atomic bombs, and so it actually seems that they did know what they were doing.
Incidentally, the LEGO company is the second most reputable company in the world, according to Forbes.

I heard Duke Nukem Forever is written in Perl 6 and runs on Parrot

Is this a dupe? I'm not sure... anyone?
What genius decided that the Slashdot date format should be day and month only?
Now that's a rich dude!
Yes, oh so true; when evaluating scientific research, the very first question to test the findings should be: "Are the findings politcally correct?".
Or not.

Keep voting Republican and a police state is what you'll get. It's not like their agenda is secret or anything...
