$35 does seem a bit high, but it depends. I mean, if it was $30 and I got BOTH and unrestrticed DRM file, AND a DVD copy in the mail...I might consider it. They've taken the effort out of having to rip it yourself, and give it to you instantly. For $10, that's kind of worth it to me. I highly doubt that it won't have DRM, but if it didn't, I think it could be a really nice service. You order a movie, and not only do you get a DVD copy of it, but a digital copy that you can put and share with all your devices.
DVD (MPEG2) requires a liscense. I believe there is something similar with MP3. They can't legally include native MP3 or MPEG-2 decoding.
Ever wonder why there are no free LEGAL MPEG-2 decoders?
"52.5 percent of desktop PCs sold in U.S. retail stores during that period"
Total desktop sales are a lot larger than desktop sales sold in retail stores. All that's really saying is that 52.5% of desktops PCs sold in retail stores feature an AMD processor.
But not for us "normies." For the first time I'm really looking at Apple products. It's like I want them all. I don't own a single Apple product, and yet I spend forever on their store.
I'm thinking about taking out my school loans just to buy something cool. I think both the Mac mini and the iPod Hi-Fi are totally sweet.
There is something that some of you forget about FW800. FireWire 800 was a mistake to begin with. There is no FireWire chipset that I know of that sits on the PCIe bus. That means, that if FW800 is on the PCI bus, it almost completely saturates the entire bus ITSELF. It was pointless. Until someone comes out with a FW controller that sits on the PCIe bus, FW800 is best left to something like ExressCard 54.
In theory, a FW 800 Express Card should be superior to FW800 built onto the PCI bus.
When the next generation of FW controllers come out that sit on the PCIe bus, then it will make sense. FW800 is just a little to early. Soon.
WoW really is a very short game. You can reach end game extremely quickly, and for the most part, the game has no dynamic end-game content.
You get to Level 60 and then you have to join a massive guild to make it worth your while. The only thing left to do now is get "uber" gear. To do this, you have to do instances like Molten Core over, and over, and over again. You can't just do it once, because there are a lot of people in the guild and a lot of people in the instance on the particular raid.
Once you reach Level 60 you join a massive guild and then have to play for at least 1-2 hours at a time, 3 days a week, on a fricken schedule just to advance your gear. It's not even a game anymore, it's work. Every night, 7pm log on and get ready to raid. For ever raid you participate in you get "points" within your own guild, and if you do it enough you get a chance to spend those points on the gear that drops in the instance. This is how most guilds work.
Basically, when you get to this level, it's not a game anymore. It's a job. You get paid per hour in points, and then you may spend those points to advance your characters stats. Don't show up to a bunch of raids? You might get fired. Don't do your job well? You might get fired.
Once you reach Level 60 in WoW it is ONLY for the hardcore.
It's not quite that simple. They could have thrown in a third party TI chipset, which is what Intel uses for their FW400 solution IIRC.
The problem is that, currently, all FireWire controllers are on the PCI bus, even the FW800 controllers. Why is that a problem? Because the FW800 controller can almost completely saturate the entire PCI bus by itself.
It makes more sense to put it on the PCIe bus, but since no chipset currently exists, why not just leave it out so you can get an ExpressCard 34 that will have FW800 and be on the PCIe bus.
Think about every site that has a Flash banner and/or ad, and then tell me what I said isn't true.
For every site that uses Flash in a good, clean, and constructive way, there are at least 100 sites that take advantage of someone who views their site and happens to have Flash installed.
You don't need to do any research to come to a conclusion like that.
Wow. 99% all websites that have Flash components on them, use them improperly. Now we will have a new standard to be misused.
I say, great. I hope it stays a closed format, on the Windows platform, and everyone moves over to it that currently uses Flash the wrong way.
Then, browsing the internet on a platform other than Windows will be a totally awesome experience.
The sad thing is, properly used; the way it was made to be used as a UI with scripting language, Flash can be totally awesome. Unfortunately, there are probably only a dozen websites on the entire internet that understand how Flash is supposed to be used.
People are just silly. They act like AMD is the holy grail. There is only a single modern chipset for the entire AMD line-up that even passes for decent, and that the nForce Pro for Socket-940. Everything else for Socket-754 and Socket-939 is absolute garabage ATM.
What good is your Athlon X2 4800+ if you have to match it with some piece of crap nForce 4 based motherboard?
Glad that wasn't me. If feds showed up at my door, I'd have closed it for second, run out the back, got in the car and booked it out of there. The only reason we heard about this is because he got off. Who says there aren't other people in some secret place being held because they got a secret warrant from a secret court all because some kid need a damn book for a class.
I bought a vintage Soviet hat the other day on eBay. If someone comes knocking on my door, I'm runnin'. Look for me on the news!
Great victory for Ubuntu, and Linux in general. I have to wonder if Ubuntu wouldn't be even more popular if it didn't have such a stupid name. Sometimes I think that's the only reason that RedHat ever took off...only Linux distro without a strange name.

What's wrong with teenage sexual orgies, and how can an orgy be non-sexual?

Is it really worth delaying the release for more then a month just to polish it out a little bit?
Absolutely.

Good. No one should ever be going to MySpace anyway. If I win the PowerBall tomorrow I'm starting a campaign to destroy MySpace.
They should stop the "MySpace problem" at it roots: delete MySpace.
That would be the greatest thing ever. I'd piss my pants from laughter if that ever happened.

It is.

Scientists have been using GFP transgenic organisms for years- why suddenly is this new?
nForce 4 is total crap.
You forgot something though. There isn't a good chipset for the AMD Athlon 64 X2.

Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft will eventually buy ALL the internet services that exist and then battle it out.
I LOVE DRM and eagerly await for the day when I can use Netflix, pay $20 a month, and instantly stream the entire library of videos on demand.
I'll have to wait for hardware DRM to be more prevelant until that launches though.
