Then instead of manuals having a "Mac" portion and a "PC" portion it'll be, "which version of Windows 7?" ...Which leads to more paper which in the end result makes Microsoft responsible for clear cutting trees...

Too bad MTV isn't going to develop it anymore (idiots for killing a golden franchise). I firmly agree, but if MTV continued to develop the franchise they might turn it into a hip hop or "reality" show themed version. It would turn into what their TV channels are now, little if any music videos, and a lot of low grade "reality" shows. I can see it now... Real World meets guitar hero, complete with drunk drama, and poor cutscenes.... oh yeah some guitar in there.

I agree, many people are very unintelligent, or they lack the normal common sense. But, linux is still far from your "Grandmother friendly" or in my case "Parent Friendly" set of operating systems. I do realize that Ubuntu is being considered to be the simplest linux OS, the only problem is that it is still far from simple by standards compared to other, more common (m$ or apple) operating systems. So it is safe to conclude that, there are people who just have no idea about technology, which is a larger piece of the pie than those who do, therefore linux is yet to have a very, "bone head" OS as some would say, so that the common user would be satisfied, and quite frankly not afraid to use.

And maybe more people would adopt the electronic news systems as oposed to printed ones. With that sort of a change, there is less wasted paper. Though I don't think that fonts are a majority of the problem. Fonts could be adding to the problem, but the fact that screens omit light, as oposed to paper that reflects light to your eyes. In other words, the screens are the main reason for eye fatigue, not the fonts. Very interesting to see what will come up about this in the future.

Maybe Google will come up with a browser and possibly an O.S. that'll rock the world's socks off. IE, its really easy to use, and don't give a toss about the fact that it isn't standards compliant Saddly Microsoft does have any webdevelopers balls in a tight grasp. And I definitely disagree, it is so easy to develop a really decent website, until you have to hack your own code so that IE will read it. Another portion to this is microsoft's neglect to allow IE to upgrade with the rest of the world. Such that it doesn't read past CSS 2, and doesn't support png transparency. But like I said, Microsoft has developer's balls in there hands, so developers are forced to shut up and hack their code so that the rest of the world will be attracted to their designs.

Even when funding, taxing people or companies etc is not the complete answer. In this case it should be the consumer that should start the movement, unfortunantly few people choose to be educated. Obviously somebody should come up with a "better" design, maybe it's time for a new system to be developed for what we are doing with technology today. There are many answers out there to resolve this issue but taxes are not one that I would consider a good one. In complaint to the winner, take out those darn arrows pointing left on your menu, they bug the heck out of me, cause I'm lead to believe that there is a slide out sub menu. For any advice on menus and such, try reading the book: "Don't make me think!" by: Steve Krug. It will give you an insight as to what and what not to put. Also in reply to the complaint that we /.'rs should vote on this sort of thing, in a sense yes that would be a good decision in that the viewers, those who view the sight more on a daily basis would have thier say but, I think the editors should have the final say, maybe put it in a /. poll or something, and that could have swayed the editors decision "yay" or "neigh". All in all both are good designs but, I favor the runner up, but all of us /.'rs aren't me.

Although there are programing classes, they tend to focus on BASIC, which gives a general sense of programing but, in most cases, totally useless.
