    5. They've "fixed" the functionality that allows you to utilize many CSS hacks to compensate for IE's rendering flaws, however they haven't fixed the underlying bugs that the "hacks" were intended to fix. As a result, a lot of sites I checked out that rendered just fine in all current browsers (including IE6) are now broken in IE7, because the "hacks" no longer work in IE7, but thier standards complience is still shoddy, and thier box-model still sucks.

I don't bother with hacks anymore. Conditional comments are much easier. Now the only thing I have to hack for is differences between Firefox and Opera, which I don't run into very much.

  3. Re:Why RIAA? on Canadian Record Label Fights RIAA Lawsuits · · Score: 1

Your post made me think about something. The RIAA gets it's power from it's members, so why does it make sense to fight the RIAA directly? Seems it would be more effective to go after their individual members instead. Here a list. Even finding one label who isn't happy with membership and convincing them to drop out could be great press for RIAA fighters (and a nice chunk of publicity for the label in question), and every one that quits would weaken them financially.

    Just a thought.

Actually, I take back the Socrates arguement, but only because I think your original question was a little unclear.

It's not completely appearant that you meant "When is Flash the best choice as an application." rather than "When is Flash the best choice, period." So I misunderstood.

If you meant the former, then I'm not qualified to say and you may be right. If you meant the latter, then It sounds like you're either nitpicking, or defending a weak position. It's true I don't know every technology out there, but Flash is sometimes the best choice for me. (And I don't even like using it ;)

<offtopic>I would now like to take the opportunity to say that websites done entirely in flash suck. Please tell your friends and put an end to this madness.</offtopic>

That point reminds me of an arguement between Socrates and Thrasymachus, from The Republic (Socrates speaking)

"You are a philosopher, Thrasymachus, I replied, and well know that if you ask a person what numbers make up twelve, taking care to prohibit him whom you ask from answering twice six, or three times four, or six times two, or four times three, 'for this sort of nonsense will not do for me,' --then obviously, if that is your way of putting the question, no one can answer you."

Even though everyone else has taken offense to your drug abusing low life bit, I totally agree with you. If you surround yourself with bullshit, then you end up spewing it yourself, it's inevitable except in very rare cases. Drug user does not necessarily mean low life, (maybe that's why you got such negative responses) but having all low lifes as friends is going to drag your potential down.

  16. Re:Disc Jockey or Mixing Artist? on Digital DJs Unaware of Copyright Law · · Score: 1

"A Musician who just spins tracks together". That's a musician? Wow. So, they "sample" parts of songs, and mix them all together. Seems like we need to reclassify them as a "mixer" rather than a musician. I think putting these people in with musicians is belittling to musicians. Seriously.

To be honest, it sounds like you're just trying to belittle DJs. This is a tired, petty arguement, and you should be ashamed to have started it. DJs call themselves DJs, if they make the music themselves then they also call themselves producers. It doesn't matter anyways because a musician is:

noun: a composer, conductor, or performer of music; especially an instumentalist.

A 'mixer' as you call him, is a performer of music. I promise there is performance in it, and there's a big difference between a good DJ and a lousy one. Should we just call a sax player an instrumentalist because that's all he really is? No. I have plenty of respect for more traditional aspects of music. Now have some respect for people that do things differently from you.
