The one thing I really hate is the online version will go through "revisions". There doesn't seem to be a mechanizim in place to "freeze" the story. I can't count the number of times I've gone to a news site and had the story I read three hours ago changed, words added, phrases re-wrote. Quotes changed! WTF? How can that be used as a reference if it's a "living document"?
At least when I see it on a dead tree, the only way to revise the story is with a correction the next day or so.
They should treat the online stories like accounting entries....when it's in....it's in. You need to add another transaction to reverse the previous one...there's no erasing/deleting/changing of entries after they're in.
And to those of you who say...."they're just correcting errors" or whatnot...then maybe they shouldn't post it until they've had a chance to proofread and check sources.
HIs language is commensurate with the amount of pissing and moaning that goes on.
When I worked as a cook, we were responsible for cleaning the kitchen during the shift (the place never closed). We'd be carrying buckets of hot grease or water and people would be drawn to walking in front of you it seemed. So, we took up yelling a warning when we were about to carry out hot stuff:
"HOT STUFF...MAKE WAY OR I'LL BURN YOU AND LAUGH"
It worked perfectly. And for those who didn't beleive, they found out the hard way.
Who cares? Oh, I don't know...maybe the company sponsering the person?
It's called Cost of doing business. If my expenses are higher with an H1-B1, and the billing rate stays the same (why penalize the client company), why should I take a lower profit? If the H1-B1 wants to work for me, then they are going to take the lower wage because it costs me more.
If they don't like the deal.....don't take it. Stay home.
Has anyone considered the cost to aquire and hold H1-B1 papers for a overseas worker? What about when the contract is up? The company is responsible to return the worker, who pays for that?
Using computers and programming are a bit different, don't you think? What do you define as solid experience? Moving a mouse and clicking a button? Surfing the web?
So what you're telling me is, that what is needed here is for some articles to be written and a few people to go on news shows and say how life as we know it will cease to exist, that the Y2K/\/\IPv4 bug will eat us alive. We'll be back in the stone age because our Computer/TV/Radio/can opener with embedded chips/\/\/I mean IPv4 addresses can't possibly function.
This comment is only valid in NY, I have no idea what the other states do, but when an unemjoyment claim is filed, a copy goes to the company for verification of dates employed, etc.
If the company that's getting hosed was to return the form stating the person either didn't work for them, or is still employed, it would be the fly in the ointment.
In NY, the companies have an unemployment account they fund and when there's a claim, the person in question draws against that fund. If other states do it different, like one general fund that every company funds and that the ex employees all drain, then yes...there should be a different plan in place. But in NY, it would be failry easy to detect.
I remember a story back in the day about how many NT boxes it took to run the house (something like 90 IIRC). A quick google turned up this article describing dinner at Bill's house.
Phoenix AZ? 1.2M people Phoenix? That must have been one hell of a trail he/she blazed.
Where I am (Rochester, NY), it usually takes someone 3-5 years to make the rounds and piss off enough of the right people, and we're no where as large as Phoenix. But, sooner or later, when we interview people, we'll run across someone we have in common.
A donut with those damn sprinkles or crushed peanuts.
Try eating one without dropping half those damn things on the keyboard, floor, everywhere. As my old man used to say "How the hell did you miss that big mouth of yours?"
DAMN! I wish i had some mod points....your assessment is spot on.
And, we all realize why there is a very clear distinction these days between contractors and "regular full-time" employees?
The contractors that sued in the 90's that worked at Microsoft.
So thanks to those losers, the rest of the IT industry has to protect itself from lawsuits by going overboard to make the distinction.
You forgot the next step after they refuse to sign....the part where they lose their house and starve in the gutter.
Idealistic notions are one thing, $$$ is another.

What about at least cross-eyed?
Good Lord!
What if they made a Bullseye shot!
Can you say OUCH!

Do you call lots of UV light clean and safe?
Wait...you mean I can burn H2 AND get a tan?
Brilliant!
If you can't wire it on or weld it on, you probably don't need it anyway.
So, in your interpretation:
May = Will
Is that so?
Now what the fuck does geography have to do with it? Did I mention anything regarding location of the girl?
No, I didn't.
People who assume racisim/bias/sexism just because I didn't mention them are idiots and looking for something to bitch about.
If the kid is a genius, good for her. I congratulate her. The fact that she's in East Jesus has NOTHING to do with my comments.
Damn, now you pissed me off. Thanks.

Why am I responding to an AC? I must be loopy.
Either the kid is really bright, or if a nine year old can pass them, what value is there?
Me Too!

Ha! I'm the World's Greatest Dad, and I have a mug to prove it!
The funny thing is, I don't have any kids....
So what you're saying is...your grandmother gets more exercise than 95% of the /. readership?

Spammer? Oh. I thought it was the discovery of another lawyer.
The Macho Man, Randy Savage?
OHHH YEAAAAHHH!
Worse, we PAY the Government officials to rob/rape us. Theives only get paid if they succeed (think of it like piecework).
