Dear Ben, I have bought every one of your CD's. Every one. Ive even got the live CD that was only released in Japan. Ive seen you in concert in 3 continents, ive tracked down every live recording of your ever.
I have not, however bought you latest CD, diamonds on the inside. A friend of mine bought it into work, and i wanted to listen to it at lunch on my computer, but i wouldnt play. I don't have a cd player. I rip my CD's on to my machine at home, then load the tracks i like onto my ipod. But your new cd wont let me do this. So i didnt buy it. Regards

Jeez, get a life. I know your a troll, but seriously are you sure you should be reading slashdot? This aint amnesty international dot com you know. Its slashdot, we like strapping hi tech gear to explosives and shouting whoop whoop, and damn it this is our website, so please take your moralising somewhere else. ps If your local synagogue/church is allowed to have bingo, while there there are "starving children" then its probably ok.. Ok? Good, glad we got that cleared up.

The panamainan government obviously doesnt understand this. Besides the only reason their doing this is because the phone company is owned by El Presidantes, cousin or somthing.

I just got back from living in london as well. I remeber one morning walking to vauxhall train station to get the train to victoria and seeing cherie blair (the pm's wife) walking to to train, and she was pregnant at the time, and had just 1 unarmed bobby (uniformed police officer) with her, and he was just escorting her till she got on the train. Thats the big difference, in the UK public transport IS just how you get from one place to another, not a social idelogical or ecological choice, and thats the way it should be. Screw travelling in tubes, point to point transport, high speed transport is not what you need. What you need is a broad interconnected, slow safe and frequently opperating network.
I for one get really pissed off when slashdot does this, i mean how hard is it to just proff read somting once before you hit submit, its not like their not always telling us to use the preview button is it.I for one get really pissed off when slashdot does this, i mean how hard is it to just proff read somting once before you hit submit, its not like their not always telling us to use the preview button is it.
Actually, they recently worked out a way to calculate a digit of Pi without calculating all previous digits. Which means if someone could work out *aproximatly* where in pi your super computer was up to, they could start calculating from there. Pi may be normally distributed, but its not random, because theres and algorithm for calculating arbitary digits. So its not good for encryption.
I just did this like 2 days ago. Im astounded that UML (bad name IMHO, been used already) is going into the main tree. UML is awesome, dont just set up 1 honeypot, set up 5 let the hacker think theyve found a whole network.. Ive got my machine (no you cant have the IP;-) so that ports 22 and 80 to to the *real* linux distro and all other exploitable ports goto my UML machine. Except that ive got TCP wrappers set up so that when you connect to my virtual machine, it NMAPs you and logs it all to a file. But probably the most fun thing you can do is test things like:
You cant use a genetic algorithm to crack encryption becase theres no fitness test. Thats the thing about encryption.. You get nothing at all until you get EXACTLY the right key. Now if the encryption worked like, [GET half the bits of the key right and you get half the picture] then YES genetic algorithms could solve this.
For me the balence just tipped back in favor of X86/linux. Im giving my apple ibook to my little sister and just bought a Dual 1.8GHz Athelon with 512Mg ram and a shit hot video card (g4/4400) For 3K aussie. Compare that to buying a new G4 for 6K aussie. Besides the only thing linux couldnt do when i bought my ibook was play back quicktime. And now that everyone seems to be heading towards MPEG-4 theres really no reason to stay in OSX.
This wont work. All that will happen is that the spammers will just modify their spam programs to slightly modify each message they send out. This will result in each message having a COMPLETELY different SHA signature.
Cool idea but wont work. Sorry. Maybe some kind of AI algrorithm.
Spammers will just modify their spamming programs to very slightly change each message so that they generate completely different hashes.
Cool idea but wont work. Sorry.
There was a slashdot article a few months ago that said that linux was ported to the playstation to avoid the UK's sales tax which says games consoles are taxed, but computers are not.

Is the Biological Compound there adding Milk?
They run linux, with a pre-emptable kernel, the commnand and control software is bespoke, written by John Carmak himself.
Nope, Read the article. The power connector fell off. No bug in the software, not the os, just the total lack of electricity.
Karma burn time...

Seriously, these bacteria had their chance and they obviously screwed it up. Time to let the away team play..
I had a go at Big Boys Toys, which is a cool gadget show they run in sydney each year.
There pretty slow though, they seem to be geared for torque rather than speed.
...use pgp, or hushmail...
Pretty simple really. Technical, logical solution to a political problem.
