That bounty is for getting linux to run (which requires homebrew running, yes, but that should be different goals/projects).

Note that wiili adds a LOT of requisites appart from running homebrew AND booting linux, such as 'Wiimote, keyboard, mouse, dvd drive, sd-card and network support.', (which is not to be taken lightly)
They even add the requisite of not voiding the warranty :P . I think they took a slightly different goal. That bounty will probably happen when homebrew is already a reality. Not before or at the same time.

IMHO, a more natural approach would be
    1. get homebrew running.
    2. get linux to boot.(This one will happen like, almost instantly? ;)

The article does not encourage homebrew developers to find a new way to run homebrew on the gamecube, far less on the wii itself (in wii-mode). As far as i can tell from the news post, it is just a GC homebrew competition which does not limit the loader to known methods.

It would be far more interesting if someone already 'known' to the homebrew scene would create a bounty for the first person who is able to run homebrew on the wii (in wii mode, that is).

Let me tell you why this is *NOT* a pointless thing to me.

The scary part is not DRM alone, but DRM + TC.

This is something Vista will fully support in the future, which means
that the majority of the home PCs in the future will have this.

While it is OK (although i do not like it) to let companies put more and more
restrictions on the software/media that you purchase, one could think.. ok,
so that is their choice and i am not going to spend my money on their product,
    since it is MY choice.

But what happens now? What happens when MS is the one who is -sort of a way- "abusing" DRM+TC ?
have you heard of remote attestation and its issues ?

It seems to me that this *could* be a way of gaining a stronger monopoly. What if they lock other (competing)apps or even OSs remotely ?
What if they decide that xyz application is not trusted and may not interact...
Sure, i can chose not to use DRM, but then i am locked out if i dont use what they want me to use.
Now I do NOT have a choice, and might be forced to use their product just because pretty much
every average user does so. There are dozens of uses like this.

One does never know, but i dislike a OS that does not trust me, and boosts the power of those that do not want me to be able to chose.
I could be wrong on some points, but that are some of the reasons of why i dislike that MS is supporting an almost unbreakable(or at least very difficult for now) DRM system.

And that goes for the vulerabilities only known to the bad guys, as well as to those announced publicly, but there is no patch.

That is a risk many people take(well, everyone who is vulnerable, which *may* be every windows box for example),
versus "lazy" guys who do not patch their servers regularly.

Also, viruses are also much more destructive when they originate from 0day exploits, which can result in an important number of machines being pwned in no time(which has happened quite a few times now, right?)

Since this is not the case, and i see great differences in the network-side stability between games... i bet there must be something unrelated to my hardware which makes some games work better than others.

Since as i said, other games like metroid, tetris or tony hawk work perfectly. Online play is VERY stable(I can play for hours).

The fact that this is not the case for other games (and those are MK and ACWW) is what makes me think that maybe the network code, or something specific to them(client or server side, i dont know), is what makes them more unstable.
Also, MK is missing many features
when compared to tony hawk. No battle mode for online play, only 'race mode' is available for online play (with limited tracks), no ghost runs uploads/downloads...
Yet, both MK and tony hawk came online almost at the same time. And there is a huge difference in quality for online play between both of them.
I think the online part of MK was a little bit 'rushed'. (Even though i appreciate very much that they included this feature)

Moreover, combining the touchscreens possibilities with online play(mario kart logos, Tony Hawk designs.. etc) is outstanding! No other game system has this.

However, i have found several games to have different stability. I dont know if this is all related to my router or connection, but with Mario Kart and ACWW, i have found wifi to be very unstable. ( i rarely get to play more than 10 minutes before getting disconnected).

Furthermore, this does not happen with newer games like Metroid Prime Hunters. I have not been disconnected once in a month now, whereas MK still is highly unstable). I think this might be because of the maturity of the network code. The first games being not so stable as the newer games.

(An interesting fact though, is that Tony Hawk american sk8land is VERY stable, even though it was one of the first titles to be released with online play)

I am looking forward to see more VoIP during gameplay, and maybe even cooperative RPGs :) i think most users would love that.

Many people can read a book about C and try to develop a program, or contribute to a project, but managing and coordinating many people working together on a big project that needs to be reliable and mantainable is another thing. Also, which language is "hot" at the moment should not really matter, because after doing CS you learn the life cycle of software(lets call it like that) and not a specific language. so for having opportunities with a "greater view" not sticking to one side may be fine, but that way i dont think/know you will get as much profund knowledge as for dedicating the whole career to a "single area".
