Not as easy as Ctrl+Click to open it in a new tab so that I can look at it before closing the tab and going back to where I left off on Slashdot. I find that about 50% of the time the back button takes me back to the top of the article rather than the point I left it so I normally open links in a new tab/window.
Like I said, I was just wondering if there was any particular reason for not making the URL clickable. I apologise for rattling your cage.
Is there any particular reason why some Slashdot users (usually those with low UID's) don't make links clickable? Is it laziness? Or perhaps I'm the lazy one for moaning about having to copy a link and paste it into my address bar (then take out the extraneous space) to reach it?
Anyway, thanks for the link to that article, Mr. Neutron;)
To keep this post on topic, I believe the rabidly Informative Anonymous Coward missed the point that the previous poster was referring to services like DCOM.

Back in 1999, Floyd P. Horn, administrator of the Agriculture Research Service, persuaded President Clinton to include Plum Island in his expanded bioterrorism program based on the possibility of a biological attack on the nation's agricultural base. Last year the administration of the island's research facilities was transferred from USDA to the Department of Homeland Security.
No, seriously, try playing a partially complete BT download of an AVI with a player that doesn't look for the index (mplayer, DivX, etc.). The file is missing random chunks, not the end.
Yeah, and I thought that downloading those movies with BitTorrent would overcome the problem with all the best bits of my VHS collection being worn out. Nothing like a suddenly blank screen to ruin the moment:/
Ahh, you mean pictures of fungus? I was ready to try spilling beer on a few CD's, leaving them in the oven with some banana skins for a while and then smoking the results.
Now you can download Doom for your Nokia 7650:) It works fairly well although the controls are a bit awkward.
My fondest memory of playing Doom was getting to the end and recording what the last boss said into a tape recorder, sampling it back in to the PC and then reversing it so I could understand what was said:D
I've ordered a fair bit of stuff from both overclock.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk with no complaints at all. I bought a Gainward GF4 from Overclock and unfortunately it turned out to be part of a batch which had faulty memory chips; they sorted out a replacement quickly and professionally:)
On the other hand, I would never buy anything from Scan again. I spent 8 months haggling with them over a £60 refund for a faulty CD-ROM drive; they eventually paid up after I got the Trading Standards people involved....and another thing. I'd steer clear of the Iiyama VM Pro 452; I have one running alongside a Sony Trinitron 19", both running at 1600x1200x32 and the quality is nowhere near as good on the Iiyama.
When Daft Punk released Discovery a couple of years ago every copy had a card with a unique serial number on it. You can still go to the Daft Club website and download exclusive tracks etc. using your serial number:)
For a bunch more information on the Gamecube, point your eyes at the screen and summon cube.ign.com into your browser window. You can also find a couple of jaw droppingly fantastic Star Wars Rogue Squadron videos here.
I for one intend to put myself into cryogenic storage until this thing is released next year as I just can't wait for the new Mario and Zelda games:-)

No, *IF* Quake Takes Fragging To Whole New Level
On a related note, Who is TV's most famous doctor?
This kind of thing should be included in the Quickies.
Whatever happened to those anyway?
All Seeing Eye is, imho, far superior to GameSpy and nowhere near as bloated.
The advantage of IRC, though, compared to the Web, is that it is more reliable
You obviously haven't spent much time on QuakeNet
I have you down for a small fry.
Hoy, small fry!

...or 'Poindexter's nutty scheme' as Sterling thinks of it.
Huh? What did I do now?
"To win the game you must kill me, John Romero"
iirc there was also a picture of John R. on the other side of the wall behind the monster.

"...extraneous filler words in the META tags or hidden at the bottom of the page."
I noticed the other day that self styled "King of Usability" and Benny Hill look-a-like, Jakob Nielsen uses this technique on his very own page.
Cheers

Why compare with Windows? The interesting thing about Windows is how long it takes to erase.
