While Google do now have many cycle routes marked, I still prefer CycleStreets (which uses the same data as OpenCycleMap, i.e. OpenStreetMap). That gives a choice of three routes (fast, balanced, quiet), and has more cycling-related data on the map. Sometimes the routes can be a bit wiggly, but I think they're working on this.
However, it's great to see the cycle routes on Google, which will make them visible to lots of people -- hopefully those that don't realise their trip to the shops or work is faster by bicycle.
Both have problems OpenCycleMap gives me a track which is through deep mud on the way to work, but then correctly gives me a cycle track at the end. Google maps keeps me on less muddy routes but sends me down a dangerous dual carriageway when there is a cycle track as an alternative.
What he said. These filters are entirely optional - noone is being subjected to them against their will.
The impression I get from the tech folks I know at Claranet is that they take things like privacy and freedom on the 'net pretty seriously.
The problem is that you will set "child mode" tinking you will be protected and get some Muzzie telling the kids that nothing is better than killing an infidel or some Fundie telling them that they will go to hell if they don't send money.
Seriously, a better punishment would be community service. If Google had to teach a certain number of man-years in IT lessons in public schools it would be a deterrent to Google and a benefit to education.
Just thinking that Android had to put up with LTE and it did just fine. Maybe Blackberry's problem is user interface, tight control of apps, and now a crowded market with better products.
I don't know if this is right, but I suspect that the open source nature of Android forces a separation from the operating system and the actual telephony stack. The telephony stack was closed source, I think it may be open now in Ice-cream Sandwich, but the architecture would have had to make the higher level OS layers communicate through a well-defined interface, making it easier to switch telephony technology.
I would be interested if anyone can confirm this suspicion (or show it to be incorrect!).
He will follow in the footsteps of Dvorak, colemak (oh how I wish this was used everywhere), and the the many other layouts into either oblivion or a small number of dedicated users who cannot understand why everyone else doesn't want to switch to their layout.
[...] a persistent problem with the open source development methodology.
Methodology is the "study of method". The correct word is method
Thanks
It seems to be a prevalent trend in spurious metaisations in English. "Method" becomes "methodology", "existing conditions" become "pre-existing conditions", "language skills" or simple "languages known" becomes "linguistic skills".
What are the alternatives? iOS or Windows Mobile?
(Please, dont' mention webOS or bootToGecko... I mean: what are the REAL alternatives?)
I know that android is a strange kind of open source system... unlike "traditional" oss projects (e.g., Linux), here a private company is in charge of the main development, and periodically releases the result with an apache license. So? Where is the problem? The community can still start from what's been open sourced and innovate on top of that. Like cyanogenmod or amazon are doing.
So, please, tell my why the rise of an open source project is dangerous to the FREE software.
But there's MeeGo, Symbian and Blackberry,... oh wait!
For what part? These are all known by everyone. Google doesn't release code for its services, Android is locked behind hardware by manufacturers and yes, Google is really slow in releasing Android source code when they should release it immediately.
Whereas I agree on the first two points, I thought that the delay in releasing the Android code was because they had to rewrite some proprietary licensed parts. Certainly this doesn't happen with other Google OS projects like the "go" language, Chromium, etc.
Maybe someone should invade Canada, and bring Democracy to the place? We can use your opression of the native Inuit people as some form of reasoning I guess, do you guys still have any gold left?
I think their mineral rights in the Arctic might well "have nothing to do with our liberation of the impressed Inuits"
Resale rights. The EU is demanding that Canada implement a new resale right that would provide artists with a royalty based on any resales of their works (subsequent to the first sale).
Because when you buy a car (or any other second hand goods) through a private classified ad, Ford (etc) get a slice of that too... This is insane!
I thought it was Canada trying to impose this on the EU. Which way round is it?
Pure nonsense. You're cherrypicking from history and the positions of extremists. Most Muslims do not hold these positions and consider themselves devout followers of the creed. Who are you to say they are wrong?
We don't need to say they're wrong. The Muslim clerics and scholars do that. How many Muslim clerics do you hear saying that it is wrong to prevent non-Muslims from building places of worship, or to engage in violent jihad, etc?
Are you saying ALL Muslims follow the Taliban? Would any of you have a problem with saying ALL Atheists are baby killers?
You are setting up a nice straw man there. Not all Muslims follow the Taliban, but all Muslims follow a cdoctrine that says that non-Muslims must be killed or accept inferior status. Read the Qur'an.
More people get killed by lightning in a couple of months than from terrorism in the last few years.
Where is the war on lightning?
Oh... you can't funnel money to corporate buddies if you have a war on lightning.
This isn't about "terrorism". The routine killing, rape and subjugation of non-Muslims in muslim countries is "business as usual". Its only when they do something to Westerners that they say it is an "act of Terrorism" by a "tiny minority"

Can you imagine something like this being developed in any Islamic Theocracy with all their trillions of cash ?
Well maybe if it blew up after the whole family was watching.
No they're busy sodomising each other so that they can fit more explosive up their arses. God I hate Muzzies
Why the obsession with physical media? Both the Kindle and Nexus 7 assumes that you are consuming media from the net.
He wants his pron collection to be quickly disposable.
I know, it's crazy. The Gates's ability to avoid corruption, with that much power, is a skill I am envious of.
Hey, is that you David Cameron?

This table is sold probably at the price it costs to make or even less
Why has it got a wobbly leg or something?
i had sex with your mom last night, it usually doesn't involve nukes.
But I probably have a negligence claim against the old folks home for letting you in.
"Our Infrastructure" -- that is, the infrastructure in 1st world countries, is ready. I don't know about DC, though...
Not only that - warmer first world countries. I doubt that Scandinavia or Canada are over-worried about this

You say, "I don't want to be raped by your dildo," and they respond with, "Well, how about this one? It's a different color!"
Well they say "the Mounty always gets his man".

Google doesn't recognize him either. There's no doodle of him. But if you search for him on Bing, you find all the relevant info.
I think this google search shows that there are lies, damn lies, and Microsoft fanboiism.

Or they can proudly declare that their product is for people who care about functionality and features rather than 'cool'.
Might work on slashdot but in the real world style beats substance any day.
I hate it when people use "u" to say "you".
y do u?
