I saw a TV program that demonstrated that people are more likely to help an injured jogger if he is wearing the same team's football shirt.
It is not necessarily racist
"Please, Ms. Rowling, I'm so tired and bleeding from both ends..."
"Is J.K. gonna have to choke a bitch? Get me my money!"
Whoosh! That went over my head.
Rowling, I believe is a billionaire. This isn't about money; it's about control. I'm guessing here, but I get the impression that these books mean much more to her than as something that got her out of poverty and made her one of the richest women in the World. Like many creative types, their creation is almost like a one of their children. And I'd be pretty pissed too if someone copied things from me and published them as their own work.
I have one thing to say: I'd be pretty pissed too if someone copied things from me and published them as their own work.
I used to think a certain manager where I work had a bad stomach - he would often get up and say "back in 10 minutes". Evidently people in reception thought a certain secretary had a bad stomach too.
One day security installed a security camera in a stock room because they noticed that things "kept being moved around". Soon all became apparent.
All I can say is he may have lacked in duration but he made up in frequency!
Yes:
Email is also compared to slot machines in the way it works psychologically: "So with email, usually when I check it there is nothing interesting, but every so often there's something wonderful â" an invite out or maybe some juicy gossip â" and I get a reward." There are also some hints offered on how to keep control of the inbox, for those of us already addicted."
Absolutely,
Remote "fat" clients are a problem to keep up to date as well as a security issue. A secure connection to a web server using client-side certificates is the way to go.
Officer: I have reason to believe you have content on that computer that infringes copyright. Geek: So? Officer:It is an infringement of the law. It is illegal to download copyright material. Geek: Gotya! You quoted that law without paying royalties. Now we're both copyright infringers. Shall we all just go home or shall I make an official complaint.
The striking resemblance between Stephen Fry and the Gnu logo. On the Gnu main page they have pictured him from an angle that maximises this resemblance.
When I read "The GNU operating system" I thought it meant Hurd. In fact Hurd is only 24 years old, and is evidently still not ready for production use. When will this baby grow up!
Actually, it's even better than that. Instead of whining about how this application is going to be configured and trying to change it to suit yourself... now you may want to be sitting down for this...
don't use it.
I'm glad you warned me. Don't use something from GOOGLE! I'm not sure I get that concept.
They do have all the torque if you look at the PEAK figure, however the curve tends to be worse and they often don't rev as high. Therefore you usually get bugger all torque at lower revs, then when you hit the boost you get a huge surge of the twisty stuff, then you've hit the limiter. All within a narrow rev band. Cue lots of changing gear.
On the contrary diesels have massive low rev torque. Look at this graph for the torque of a 2.5 diesel against one for a 2.0 litre petrol engine. One of the joys of driving a diesel is that you don't have to change down when going slow on an upward gradient.
It's safe to use as much oil as we want because climate change is a myth, and once all this ice at the North Pole melts we can have some nice oil platforms there....
If you follow the link in TFA to the Boston Herald article it is apparent that this is a different project to the XO 2. The article itself is a bit muddled though so it does look as though it is talking about the same system.
For twelve dollars perhaps they should codename it the abacus. It will probably be an abacus if they cut functionality to cost rather than increasing cost to cover functionality.
But unless there is some warning about invalid certificate it is subject to man in the middle attacks. Also, unless you check the certificates every time, allowing self signed certificates would allow man in the middle attacks even against sights that have secure signed certificates.
I'll remove slashdot and Microsoft.

At the moment its like saying "this will be really useful for when I genetically engineer a dragon".

My sentiments regarding slashdot!

Build irrigation canals from Alaska
Those damn Kanooks will tap into the water on the way down. You'll only get a trickle at the end.
It could be useful:

Stephen Fry is said to like to take regular back-ups.
Let me fix that for you: Stephen Fry is said to like to take it up the back regularly.
Follow the link to the Gnu main page. There is a picture of him and the Gnu logo.

Yes, and I didn't like the implication that any /. geek would not be able to override a TV remote.
And you can work around IBM's patent by tattooing your preference for paper or plastic on your forehead!
No they'll still have you "A computational device indicating preference". You'll have to pay royalties or forfeit your head.
Would you like to kill a tree or a turtle?
If I can chop down a tree so it lands on a turtle can I have both?
Mine has a sticker that says "Long live Islam and death to America". Could this be why I always get searched ;-)

It was clearly available on a the third page of "Archived news" via a password protected link named "Beware of the Tiger".
Its not our fault if you don't take an interest in local affairs.
No that's the Bell Labs version.
