    Exactly. My mum would be very offended by the scene, but she would not go near the game in the first place. People who buy the game are unlikely to be offended.

    You see a lot from a distance. I live in the Pennine foothills, above the Leeds/Bradford conurbation. In still weather you can see a brown/yellowish layer over the area. If you drive down into it you don't see anything, though there does seem to be a slight metallic smell.

    In my opinion SSL mixed two requirements, identification of site owner and secure communication.

    This meant that many sites applied for SSL certificates just for secure communication. Some certificate authorities virtually issued certificates on request.

    To get round they introduced extended validation certificates, which means we really, really validate this site.

    They should have allowed secure communication without certificates, and had properly authorised certificates to start with. Since they didn't we have the situation where people have to self-sign

    The UK customs at the French end of the channel tunnel say that the customs post is UK territory in order to apply UK border control laws.

    While most scientists have no such concerns, a recent preprint released to arxiv systematically dismantles the notion. A risky claim to make. If he's wrong it will totally ruin his reputation ;-)

    So what will you do when someone demands that you follow their religion? When they demand that you force your women to cover themselves? Demand that homosexuals be put to death?

    Fight for their right to say it?
    Or take the UK option, and place the entire population under surveillance.

    And if you knowingly accept the subsidy from AT&T/O2, you can't ethically use another provider. If I thought they were ethically producing the phone, making sure the third world employees made a living wage, etc. I might care.

    Oracle seem good at doing that. They have a nice tool, JDeveloper, that is free to use. You can use it to generate portable apps, but there are a lot of Oracle extensions that make things easier.

    If you use these you have to run on oracle application server (non-free) or pay a fee to use their runtime on another platform.

    In the UK diesel is $10 a gallon, and some people still drive SUVs. Still, I have seen a lot of SUVs with for sale signs recently at a third of the price they would have been worth six months ago.

    No, it's because most bloggers have the mistaken idea that like-minded souls will seek out and read their stuff, think hard about it and then post an insightful response which re-inforces their self-worth. As we all know, most blogs are a write-only medium, if they have any benefit to the writer it's purely cathartic as it lets the writer vent a bit.
    my sadnerds.wordpress.com sometimes gets as many as seven hits per week. Someone even left me a comment once.

    From using a record company as your ISP. Anyone could have predicted that they would be tougher on illegal downloads than ISPs that are mainly communications companies.

    Exactly. It is there as an aid to extension developers and testers. If you enable it and have problems with Firefox 3, don't blame FF3.
