Potential hunting ground? It is a hunting ground. This following is my favorite story as of late. A girl cons her parents into thinking she's going to Canada, but instead takes a plane to the Middle East to meet a guy she met on MySpace. Fantastic.
I shutter to think of the pickup lines that were spoken throughout the evening. After all, us programmers are foreign to this "club" environment. What is this "music" you speak of anyway?
The point of my analysis was that there is no way NCSoft will release 4 expansions per year, which is why Guild Wars will be a hell of a lot cheaper to play in the long run.
Don't get we wrong... world of warcraft is a great game, but as a college a student, I have a hard time justifying paying $15/month for time playing on their servers that I should be using to study.
It is impossible to compare Guild Wars like this. It's easy to pick up and play for 20 minutes and have a good time. It depends on what kind of commitment you're looking to give a video game. Some have the time to play WoW... I for one do not have that much free time (nor do I have the money to pay for that time I won't be able to use).
Last year I thought about starting up a virus/spyware removal business (or any other trouble shooting) at my college because everyone was always asking me to fix their PCs. This is a great idea for some extra cash.
Although this is another small step, it is important to realize that Google knows exactly what it is doing. Expanding its ability to offer a wide array of free services and utilities in an extremely user friendly way. This is why they are successful and why their stock price will continue to rise, despite its already booming level.
This truly shows how the world has changed... but in a strange way. I'm sure everyone knows National Lampoons 'Vacation.' The movie was rated PG if I remember correctly. today, we are in a more liberal world with "sex, drugs and rock and roll" being more excepted... yet some video game ratings are getting people upset.
I think it's important to remember that the majority of iPod users do not have the technical know-how that us/. users have. They don't know what codecs, divx and xvid are... nor do they care. This will be the 'new thing.' Someone mentioned this earlier, but I will emphasize again, cell phones are already introcing video features.
Okay, so maybe you or I wouldn't use this "vPod" for portable movie watching, but I sure would use it if it had an AV-out on it so I could hook it to any TV. Think of the popularity this would have amoung college students. No longer would they have to crowd around their latops (since most don't know they have an s-video out). They could have their downloaded movies on the 'pod and easily be able to bring a movie to a friends' room.
This is a marketing utopia. The number of uses for this are endless. Again, I don't think I would make use of it. But we have to remember that what only really matters is if the majority think it's a great innovation.
It all depends on how they market it.
Wow. I can't believe they haven't released the necessary iPod update for 3rd generation podcast compatibility. This is no fun. Maybe someone will come out with a hack or something.
This is over a month old.. surely we can keep it a bit more fresh, right Slashdot?
Is this sarcastic.. "did good in english?" Hah.

Guild Wars= $50 retail price + price for expansions (say $45 at the most)
Random Subscription Game: = $50 retail price + $10-$15 per month subscription
Guild Wars would have to release about 4 expansions (give or take) per year to equal the amount of money you're paying for a subscription MMO.
Just a thought.

Maybe now it's rated R, but I have a copy of my dad's when it came out on VHS that says PG on it.
