The biggest improvement in my mind, is the fact they fixed the memory leak in Java. Now all of my Ajax sites do not horde 100MB of memory in Firefox after using them for a while. The spell check is good too, as my posts here will read better;)
The best way to train is tactical paintball. This is what a lot of the SWAT teams use to, position, communicate, and get used to the weapons handling. Paintball weapons are very simular to regular ones, except they are less accurate and have less distance (far less). However, it is perfect for close quarter team training.
That beats Counter-Strike 10,000%, unless you want to see terrorists jumping around with knives for speed.
This is why I am happy to be in Canada. We don't have to put up with any of this kind of bull$#!+ (yet anyway). This is also why I moved all my co-located servers into Canada, even though it costs more for bandwidth.
Just because vulnerabilities arn't known, doesn't mean they do not exist. So, in the end it is not secure.
Also, you can't compare Windows to the security of the mainframe or legacy systems that utilize mandatory access controls.
I don't find this story amusing at all. I find it sad and annoying. This is the garbage that we have to deal with on a daily basis, and the users simply have no means to protect or clean themselves.

It has horrible central management, legacy methods to detect new virus's, and lagging signature releases. I've actually seen virus's detected AFTER infection, and since it's executed, symantec get's an access is denied when attempting to delete it because it has no concept of killing a process.

Not true. The people using Bittorrent, Usenet, etc... are usually more technically savvy users (1-2% of high speed users I think). If you take a lot of regular Joe blows who sit in front of their TVs for hours drinking beer and having him utilize his/her entire pipe, you'll have a huge problem.
That being said, it's not THAT expensive to expand backbones. From what I remember when I worked at Nortel, plans were already underway to expand backbones dramatically before the.com burst. Quest was already testing multiple OC-768 (80Gbps) circuits then, and this was in 2001. They knew about the future of streaming video then as they do now, so it's time to get back to the original expansion and stop finding excuses to regulate traffic flow.
This is why I love living in Canada. This is also why I've pulled my entire server infrastructure out of the Unites States (not this case, but everything simular). Privacy = NULL.

Corporates already publish their financials. What we are worried about is PERSONAL information. Nobody has any business knowing how much I make, and doing so is a risk to my person (Why not rob the guy next door, as he makes 2 million a year).
Why? It's to classify porn sites properly so when kids try and get information on the Whitehouse, they don't find information on something much much worse.
Granted, most people ignore classifications and register domains under any root they feel like, but it should still be a provided option.
Not a chance. The ONLY reason my company has not switched to Firefox is that we have some critical internal applications that require ActiveX. IBM had the same issue migrating to Linux, and I'm not sure if that's even solved yet.
Bottom line: If they eliminate ActiveX, they eliminate the need for IE.
Unless you are a medical worker, I don't see why this is a story on Slashdot, since the majority of readers never have sex, and therefore, are naturally immune to AIDS.

Use apache mod_rewrite to prevent sites you don't specify in your.htaccess to link your pictures (movies, etc..).
Example of a.htaccess I setup for a friends site to display a (bad NSFW) picture in place of all other pictures when linked from other sites. He had a huge problem with this, and the result was very funny.
The law does not protect you from somebody calling you 300 times consecutively anyway. The law only protects you if you actually answer, and they threaten your life in some way. And online it should be the same anyway. If someone posts on a web site a list of people he is planning to kill, I would hope the law would investigate.
