    I miss the old EQ days. Even with the crazy trains, corpse runs, raid set up waits, etc I still had a blast playing that game. i just don't have the time anymore. *sniff

    Same here. Nearly word for word except I played EQ1. It was immensly enjoyable when it was playable but the stress eventually over shadowed the enjoyment so I quit.

If so I'm sending them my resume because I know some of that stuff. I'm not real good with the VB and sometime I crimp cosovers accidentaly but it would be leet to work for Blizzard. I would randomly WOOT! all day long. But seriously the problems tehy face with scaling has got to be a massivly difficult moving target to solve. I'm impressed with any uptime on that scale.

    I love that this is all the same as with the Everquest servers. People constantly said that they would not buy from Sony eyc again because of the problems, nerfs, lack of support etc. It seems as if these issues are inherent to MMORPGs.

    Yes there will be need for IT type people but the problem is IMHO that there is too much competition, too little reward for the effort and it never gets any easier. When you learn a skill like brick laying or carpentry there are always new techniques and such but the foundations of you skill remain the same. With computer stuff you have to constantly reinvent yourself or risk becoming obsolete every couple of years. Job listing for computer jobs all look the same thses days: Know everything and have loads of experience for marginal salaries.

    I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I just wanted to say that I like your style. People are too PC these days and don't take these sorts of issues as seriously as they should be. It's so easy to throw statistics and hypotheticals at people but when you actually have it come to your life perspectives change.

    Most companies have realized that having good customer service or listening to customers at all is pointless. There are so many people that will buy junk that the small percentage that actually give damn enough to actually do something about buying crap is pointless. They outsource support to India and for those who call and are offended by the lack of good support are just left hanging. Most people will just keep doing business so who gives a damn. There are so many people to sell to that will buy based on price or availability alone that they can sell as quickly as they can manufacture. Do you really think that Sony or Panasonic really give a damn that a few hundred or thousand people are pissed at them? No way they still rake in the millions/billions.

    Smart enough to become "the boss" anyway and for it to work until he was 70ish years old. Just because he dropped out of school at the 8th grade does not make him stupid. Before large scale public education people got along pretty well without formal education. Also 60 plus years ago the 8th grade education was probably more like todays senior in high school.

    I played EQ original to a very high level in the day Plane of Time etc and I think its ok for people to spend a huge amount of time in at least one or two mmorpgs. You learn to network with people, schedule large groups and pay close attention to detail. But you have to be careful not to get caught up in an endless experience that becomes purely entertainment after a while. Give it a year or two but then stop and experience other things.

    Being good at math takes lots of practice and talent also and not everyone can do it but doesn't involve "losing organs". I know immediate pain and immediate consequence seems more significant than long term challenge but niether should be taken lightly.

    "Videogames are competitive games, but football and basketball are sports." And Golf is? "you have to pull yourself away from the videoscreen and compete with your body as well as your mind." It takes a great deal of coordination of the mind and body as well as discipline to play many of todays games a t a high level. "most importantly, there are no cheat codes, you can't pause the screen, you only have one life, and if you trash talk someone is bound to hit you." Steroids, corrupt judges, Don King, etc. there's plenty of cheating out there. "Sports are much harder, I tried kickboxing instead of counterstrike for a week and I found out: Videogames *are* childish in comparison." There are counterstrike teams that are simply amazing at their organization, planning, ingenuity and mental toughness. Maybe you're just not good at games and what we have here is some sour grapes?

    Maybe my metabolism has something to do with it but the snow is inconsistant where it used to be and the birds are all crazy. The geese and ducks are just hanging out instead of flying away for the winter. When I was young it would be snowy from November utill March now it snows every couple of weeks and feels way to warm ll the time. Taken apart from the scientific community it would be easy to say I'm wrong or just smoking the wacky tabacky but they say its getting warmer and I can feel it.

    I walk around now in the "Winter" without a jacket on year after year and as a kid I couldn't do that. The hopelessly corrupt and biased arguments not withstanding my experience tells me something is different.

    These statistics can be misleading because we're assuming true belief in their responses without taking into consideration alterior motives and agendas. I think most people don't really believe in "God", we know its pretty silly actually but through politcal pressure, habit, the need to fit in, etc they answer how they think they should answer so to be represented and protected by the masses. People would rather run with the crowd towards the cliff knowing that at the last minute they are going to pull back and let the others jump for a variety of reasons including being the sole survivor and at the same time being protected and comforted by running with the bulls. Try running for political office telling the truth, you'll go nowhere.

    There is no resource that can be stretched to support billions of wasteful monkies indefinitly. So yes the oil is going to run out, so is copper and zinc and fresh water and farmable land, wood, animals, etc etc etc all of it. Too many monkies end of story. End of silly psuedo scientific debate. It's all going to run out. Not today and not tomorrow but it will.

    I happen to be one of those people. The trick is that you need to swallow your pride and understand that you are not so bright and work that much harder to keep up with the bright bulbs the best that you can. Reguardless of what overly-hopeful people say not every one can be Michael Jordan or the president or an astronaut etc. Some of us suck and wishing and/or practice won't change that. You do your best, add whatever value that you can and try to be happy with it. Live this and life will be fruitful and more pleasant but if its not then you did your best: Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,. The courage to change the things I can,. And the wisdom to know the difference
