I don't see a real difference between the two situations:
"robot wants to kill human; robot kills human" and
"robot wants to kill human; human has (ak47/watch/calculator/...); robot fires missile at (...) killing human".
So, practically, this just abolishes the restriction against robots harming humans.

Huh? Um... what are the Business users who want this virtualization? Seems to me one of the biggest markets would be consumers who want their desktop computer to be a Mac but still be able to use Windows (especially for games).
I wouldn't call it the Hot Coffee "Scandal" so much as the Hot Coffee Farse. Disregarding that fact that ILLEGAL reverse engineering is required to view the Hot Coffee minigame, the original minigame itself contains NO NUDITY. If clothed people bumping into eachother should be marked 18+, kids won't be able to buy many videogames anymore.
Nudity is acheived by editing the models as well as enabling the minigame in the first place. Saying RockStar is somehow at fault here means every software/game publisher ever is just as liabe - you can add pornography to anything.
The whole deal is stupid for so many other reasons as well - horrific violence is ok but small amounts of sex isn't? What the fuck. How many people do you expect to beat to death with a baseball bat in your life? Now compare that to how many people you expect to have sex with. Point made.
Also, no "concerned parent" can whine about this. "Oh my god, with GTA:SA and unrestricted internet axis, my children can see porn!". The internet has porn, RockStar is not at fault for that either, in case you wanted to claim it was.

Hey, not entirely funny! It's usually the ungifted children who do this though. I actually know someone who, while at highschool and after being cautioned against it, ate a sizeable drop of mercury. And, believe it or not, he was sober at the time.
While I agree that the "Let's do what they did on 24" comment is absurd, I wouldn't be so sure "professionals" do all the torture. My highschool American History teacher (who was in the vietnamese 'conflict') had a story about that: the losing troops in war-game training were sent to a practice camp where they would practice "withstanding interogation techniques". The catch is, other troops would administer these "techniques" (waterboarding, electrocuting with those crank-operated radio phones, etc), essentially giving them torture practice.
Who the hell follows up "all full of shit" with something like "And they do not now as well!"? Usually, when someone uses "full of shit" they are pissed of, and when they are pissed of they use contractions and shorter more clipped speech, like "And they don't now either!". Unless they are drunk.
Agreed, you and booch capture my thought+wording. Next thing we know, the company founded to run the website will end up owning controlling shares in all those companys!
Will this be like Halo 2?
New features in Halo 3:
Triple weapons: hold 3 weapons at once! control-havoc!
New vehicle: you can now pilot underwater vehicles!
Weapon changes: you favorite weapon from Halo 2 now SUCKS!
I don't stand out from the typical/. user - I too hate Microsoft. But your post appears more like a fan/drug induced rant than thoughtful rational speech.
When was wireless sync promised? I see no mention of wireless sync in any press releases.
Crippled file sharing - another "broken promise" you seem to have made up. Again, press releases fully describe the 3x3 rule. What the fuck did you expect, Microsoft Easy Pirating? (Again, as a/. user, I pirate things reasonably often)
Every new generation of Ipod gets better its interface is extremely easy to learn and use. Wow. You are way out there on this one. Did you notice that this is the first release of the Zune? So, you are saying that you already know the next release will be worse? Or are you taking any opportunity to show you love of the IPod even when it is non-sequitur to the conversation? As for the "easy to learn and use" comment, I seriously doubt you have used the Zune, so this is clearly either: more of what I refered to in the last sentence, or an unbased (stupid) attempt at making a comparison with knowledge of only one element.
As for the comment pertaining to "waiting a year for an upgrade", you seem to lack the understanding of the distinction between software and hardware. Wireless sync, etc, could easily be enabled via a software update (although, knowing Microsoft, it will be available via mods/hacks before it is officially enabled).
If you would *READ* TFA (the fanboy article?), you would realise it isn't a fan boy article at all. Considering it ends with "If I didn't already have an IPod I would consider the Zune". Wow! How fucking biased!
I have seen this somewhere. Perhaps it was Soldier of Fortune? Whatever it was, I didn't play it much (was my brother's game), so I don't remember it well. But I believe that you had a number of saves corresponding to your difficulty level. Like: super-easy (40 saves) - medium (20 saves) - hard (10 saves).
I understand your point. However, from the article, this research was presented at a conference of the American Physiological Society. Does that affect the situation? Anouncing research at a scientific conference hardly seems like 'going to the press'.
Also, I tend to be more wary of what the media is implying. The only portion of this that is actually attributed to the original researchers is quantitative data. The two scientists mentioned by name don't necissarily have any involvement with the researchers.
This also reminds me of an incident (about which I only know the barest details) in which, apparently, a paper proposing a method of stem cell research was posted to the Nature website for review (not published as finished work). There followed a bunch of news articles about the "amazing new method", and later news articles about how the "misleading scientist" really hadn't tested the method.
"Everything a UI shouldn't be."
Everything? Wow, I was expecting like... at least "Causes seisures" and "Commits genocide"!
I think I'll start doing this too: Find post with ethical questions -> "It is wrong/evil, like Microsoft!"

Why doesn't anyone think of Bob SixPack? Will Bob forever live in the shadow of his brother?

Don't you worry! We will have those scary new species gone in no time!

How did a giant joke get modded interesting? There is a word to describe jokes. But I already posted/don't have mod points.

However, it would be very interesting to attempt to get them to argue in their defense.

you're wrong I often am :(.
Other languages use that syntax though, I was thinking perl, but I suppose that is straight from sed anyway.
This is a dupe scientific study, not a dupe slashdot post. That post refers to a different instance of a very similar experiment.
RTFA? The article gives reasons as to why this is useful.
