It's so sad when nerds come on here to argue about how things LOOK. The last thing I do when considering a high-dollar electronics purchase is look at it. The first thing is deciding what specs I need and what standards it should support. Does it do everything I want?

Then once I find something that matches my needs I work on the price. Can I get something similar for cheaper? Can I do without some feature to save money? If part of it breaks will it be easy to fix or replace? There's dozens of variables before I finally get to a handful of products to pick from based purely on aesthetics. Then I can go "oh this one has sharp edges" or "this one is hot pink and covered in pwnies!!!".

I suspect the fanboys are starting in the exact opposite direction. "Ooo look a polished turd! I wonder if I can get it to do something useful" or "Hey it's not Windows but it's simple to operate! Now I can be an elitist prick to everyone I meet!".

As for me OS X never even made it to the aesthetics round. It doesn't play all the games I'm into and if I was going to live without all the games it sure as hell wouldn't be just to overpay for commodity hardware so I can run a bastardized version of UNIX.

iTunes is very suspect here because the Windows version is a bloated piece of shit. There are only 2 applications that I simply dread installing. So much that I've spent money to avoid using them. That's iTunes and RealPlayer. They are the most invasive, unstable, bloated pieces of shit outside of Microsoft's own handy work, IE and WMP.

Once, I watched my friend plug in his iPod shuffle on a brand new installation of iTunes without turning off the autosync crap. Genius of end-user experience Apple decided that iTunes's default behavior would be to erase all his files so that it would be synced with his new blank library. What does Microsoft have to do with anything?! Is it possible to stick to talking about your own OS for two seconds? Even if MOAB is publicity whoring it doesn't change the fact that these bugs were real. If someone wanted to do something malicious with them, they could have. Imagine if MOAB never existed and someone else found those bugs. Then what? You expect everyone to dutifully submit them to Apple? Not likely. Eventually someone is going to do something malicious and you better not rely on the "honor system" to stop them. Sure MOAB is a slap in the face to Apple and their customers. So what? If you think people doing this for publicity is bad, wait until OS X gets enough market share for these vulnerabilities to be bought, sold and used to compromise computers en masse. I don't know about you but I think a worm would be a lot more publicity whoring than disclosing these bugs publicly so they can be fixed. It's a nice wake up call if anything. Mac users need to start taking security seriously before it's too late. Just because you think your operating system is better than (insert other OS here) doesn't mean it's invincible. Apple takes bugs too personally and tries to cover them up quietly to protect their image. Sure the bugs get fixed but which bugs? How do I know they really are fixed? What if they made another mistake? These are reasonable concerns and it shows that Apple is worrying about the bottom line more than the customer. You have to realize that MOAB isn't an unwarranted attack against Apple. It's backlash for years of flaky technical support, deceitful practices and arrogance on the part of the Mac community in general. We really need to get passed blaming how others reveal Apple's mistakes. It's unproductive and harmful to consumers.
