As Jeremy Clarkson noted in Top Gear: the fact that oil companies extract oil, refine it, distribute it all for a few cents a liter is actually amazing. Gasoline is extremely cheap!
If you read the toshiba.jp page with the press release, you'll see they indicate a 2.4V nominal for every cell.
I'd say it's Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) at the positive electrode against Titanium dioxide (TiO2) at the negative, two of the mainly studied materials nowadays.
This choice of materials limits the energy density, though: you lose one full Volt against the normal LiCoO2 vs. C cells, while the capacity stays pretty much the same.
That said, it is sure a good choice for cars, less so for portable devices.
I am not much of a gamer, but I *really* suck at FPSs. I'd love to see some variety in games produced for linux.
Now if only we could reuse Quake III's engine for a football game...
In Italy this is already happening, with the main ISP (Telecom Italia) faking DNS problems to cover up the fact that they just can't deliver all the ADSL they sold.
Despite the fact that they shape Bittorrent (and other P2P) traffic...
I remember using public minitel terminals in Switzerland back in the 90s... it was called Videotex AFAIK. They were pretty popular, and they actually represented a good chance to meet people: there was this room next to a big bank with a few terminals, and we used to meet there with friends.
I mean, I even convinced a chick to call me on the public payphone next to the terminals... And I was 14. I guess geekiness is something you're born with:)
Anyway thanks for the good fun Minitel, RIP!
I think in TFA it is meant that there is no VOIP Google Talk support, that should be implemented later on in the development. You may want to take a look at gaim-vv for voice/video support, but I am not sure it is still actively developed: AFAIK it was meant to be merged back in Gaim 2.0.
Note that one of GAIM main developers (Sean Egan) has been hired by Google earlier this year.
About Gaim 2.0, I have been using all betas on Linux and Windows for months now, and I find it absolutely great. Best IM ever.
Might be interesting to create the same sort of stats based on deviantart's users.
Btw, is there some kind of API to Flickr, or has this guy gone through thousands of pictures manually? A little information on the method would be useful too!
If you mean mixing packages like SuSE and Fedora do, no. If you mean create a 32bit chrooted environment in which you can run a full 32bit distro that integrates perfectly with the "main" 64bit system, yes.

I do. And I'd rather forget, believe me.
Oh yes, geek pornography finally appears on /. :)
Thanks for the report, looking forward to the software part!

Good news everyone!
Apart from being an official Sun project, how is this project different from NexentaOS? http://www.gnusolaris.org/ Any explanation is appreciated!
Picasa is available for linux, but it's x86 only. You might want to try out F-Spot, it's probably a good picasa replacement.

Did you mean: interesting In case you're still wondering.
Hey, global warming is solved for this week! And it's only monday!
Can we have an URL? What is this Google thingy? ;)
I'd be very happy if gTalk support in Gaim worked...
This gives a whole new meaning to the word "embedded"!
Maybe evil corporations are not that evil after all. Nah, can't be.

Thanks for the link.
One was just released yesterday: http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/11/30/ 1723214
How does this affect the native bcm43xx linux driver, since the original firmware is used?
Thanks for any explanation.

Welcome to 1999 everyone!

I liked the fact that the first followup is repeated twice in the google archive. Maybe at MS they are still using OE to follow newsgroups...
