I also recently tried to install an absolutely minimal Fedora Core 2 install (into a chroot) (starting from kernel, glibc, iptables (considered it for a firewall) and adding all dependencies)
It is 280MB.
There are packages like perl, glib2, db4, info, words thats shouldn't be required for a minimal system, but the rest is just plain big (biggest offender seems to be glibc locale data)
The reason is that modern languages enable the programmer to easily reuse lots of library code without actually checking how much baggage said code brings aside.
Actually, the "6 not built yet" must be a government coverup conspiracy.
It was great when was little.
I wonder how it would look now.

OS/2 V3 worked great in 8MB and and it's desktop is still the best until today. It's dissapointing that KDE and GNOME added mostly useless bloat.
Most ASP.NET generated web pages are broken

Don't you mean: everything under the Sun will be running Java?
I agree with you. GNOME made a really bad decision on that one.
Personally I am annoyed when the apps don't support even more standard combinations of Ctrl+Ins/Del,Shift+Ins,Alt+Backspace, ...
Personally, I bind middle click to "shutdown X server"
this is going to impair my UT rocket skillz.
You went from p4 celeron to a real P4.
obviously the difference is noticeable because the P4 celeron is, relatively speaking, crap.
Personally, I find blue curve somewhat OK, except for rounded corners. That makes me never ever want to use it, ever.
The file-open dialog should be removed anyway.
It would be a good step ahead for the spatial browser (which I like a lot).
TCP/IP over OpenGL over DRM?
Maybe we could shut down the sun and save the hydrogen for a rainy day
he will return to past to sabotage the NX Enterprise on first voyage.
It is after I look back at them. Perhaps I'm seeing into the future. :)
I am often able to sense eye contact without any sensors at all. Anyone else?
It surprises me that an ex-OS/2 user would hate the spatial file browser.
For me, that might just make me use GNOME more often.
I used to have them installed. But due to spam, I prefer to not have them so I don't have to suffer when the fonts load.
Beware of middle men bearing large magnets.
I agree.
Two weeks ago I went and disabled all the fancy GFX in the game. Much more enjoyable to play when there are no distracting effects in the game.

>This new technology is finally going to bring closer to the people with domain expertise the ability to create their own applications.
It will not.
For something like that you need to look at nakedobjects.org and other similiar things.
The traditional meaning of the "pirate" (in software) is some who copies the software and then sells it for money
