I think the keyword most are missing here is "clean" OS (interpret that as you will)... not a Dell/Samsung/HP laden disc with all kinds of "other" non-driver software you might not want on there, which was the point TFA anyway.

Here in Cali my taxes taken (Fed, State, SSI) comes to +/-30%, quite a bit more than 20K... no kids, no wife, no property but I am no where near 500K, 40% may be a stretch, but OVER 25% is definitely feasible here in Cali. Now comes the question do I pay too much? I don't know. Do I feel like 1/3 of my money is gone? Yes. Oh and no my 1K tax return doesn't make me feel any better.

I call BS. If you added a 0 to your 5 minutes ( 50 ), then I would have totally believed your wait time for the DMV. If you made an appointment, that is an entirely different story. Your experience seems a little flip flopped to what I have experienced.
Around my town I have seen 2 red light intersection cameras actually removed in the past month. One of the intersections took pictures of someone nearly every time I went through it. That same intersection there were 2 separate fatal accidents and the camera was removed 5 days later following the second. I am wondering if they found the flashes to have caused the accidents ???
That was definitely the ad I was thinking of when I heard this yesterday on NPR. Although there they called it 'cuss jar' which doesn't quite have the same ring.

I see over 50-60 people each working day on the freeway on their phone holding it in front of their face as if they are interpreting the law to be head-free instead of hands-free. Separate/rant.... I see dozens a day violating the car pool lane driving with a single person in the vehicle. IMHO, I think some people think that certain laws are petty and therefore they disregard them that or maybe they are thinking safety in numbers since there are so many others doing it. Although not a valid justification.

And once if/when that stipulation is removed, that giant amount of data could be used for exactly what the other people here are suggesting. Regardless, when I first read that Google was doing a public DNS I thought it was cool.
And yet the Verizon sodomy saga continues. REQUIRED data plans are IMHO, ridiculous... especially since a large % of the time you _could_ possibly be connected wirelessly via your own access point, which translates to Verizon gaining roughly an additional 30-50% markup to what your bill would be without.
1. Sell Smartphone
2. Require 2 year contract
3. Additional 30-50% $$$ for REQUIRED data plan for that entire 2 year contract
4. PROFIT
Bottom line here to me is that the $350 ETF is far less of a factor to the customer feeling like their getting reamed compared to the 30-50% additional cost they are having to pay for the duration of the contract itself just for having a "Smart" phone.
