Not to mention that if you just jump out of the loop, the software state is probably (in most cases) invalid anyhow. Not that you are any worse off then just leaving it hung, but killing the process will most likely still be required unless it's a well written threaded app of sorts, but we probably wouldn't be having this discussion if that was the case now anyway right?

What no one sees is that we are no longer in the middle east for oil, its sand we are after. Sand makes glass, and we want to use it more, so that our technological advancements in glass tech will remain cheap, we will remain in middle east long after oil is gone. I have no basis for this argument, it just sounded good.

The part that gets tricky is the fact with the browser wars appearing to surface again, multiple version releases throughout the year, and then there is the x.5 versions, where does one stop?

I agreed whole heartedly, but the difference is with Android apps it's virtually transparent whether you are connecting to a HTTP/S connection. At least with a browser, people are trained to look for "the lock", so even if they are connecting to an unsecured wifi spot, their HTTPS connections are safer (sans MITM and other vectors) than an HTTP connection over unsecured wifi.
