So don't use texting and block incoming text messages. This is hardly the first thing that consumers have paid a rediculous markup for. Have you ever considered what it costs a restaurant to fill a fountain drink, and why most sit down restaurants have free refills?
I think charging for the amount of data that you download/upload per month is going to be the future, much like utilities charge per unit of utility used. However, much like shipping prices when no one is making much money due to gas prices, no one wants to be the first to do it.
I don't see why they dont have different bandwith plans like cell phone companies have different monthly minute plans. They could probably lower their prices for those who don't use much bandwidth at all and charge a premium if you want to download 8 movies a day. I think this is fairly reasonable. For those on a tight budget, they could offer overage protection by shutting you off if you go over your plan's limit instead of paying premium overage charges.
Snow is dangerous stuff. What most people won't tell you is that snow is manufactured from DHMO, a highly toxic chemical. Educate yourself on DHMO. It could save your life.
Practical Electronics for Inventors is an excellent book for the lay person. I have seen this successfully used as a text in non EE instrumentation courses.
The days of single income families are numbered. Sure you can live off of a single income (if one of you has a decently paying job). It'll be annoying, but it's doable. I know that I could not afford to support a wife and a kid on my entry level engineer income of $47,000 and expect to live comfortably and save money for unexpected expenses.
Mod parent up. This gets at the root of the problem with the record industry's business model. They should be fostering a younger generation of music as an investment and spend their big marketing dollars on middle aged people. It's difficult to accept an argument that the RIAA is losing money due to file sharing when most people I know who download music wouldn't be able to afford it anyways. When I hear a new Tantric or Pink Floyd (I found a new Pink Floyd at a folk festival, but they have no record deals), I go buy their stuff. Until then, I will continue to buy second hand albums from used CD stores. Gotta cut down on adding to the landfills afterall.
I mean, they may as well group "file sharing" in with drug use, promiscuous and unprotected sex, binge drinking, drag racing, school shootings, and rap music. I think that they are already close to grouping file sharing with drug use, drag racing, etc. The only thing stopping it is the fact that it's not part of a sub-culture. It's damn near everyone.
It does however give them the right to pass laws that determine who is responsible for a crime. In this case, passing a law granting telecomms immunity when the executive branch of the federal government asks them to commit a crime, simply passes all of the blame to the executive branch. This of course means that no one will be held responsible because the executive branch is entrusted to enforcement of law. IANAL: this is not legal advise. This is mental masturbation.
It is well to keep in mind that party doctrine had little to do with it at that point. The "opposing the moral senses of the germanic race" argument could very well have been the official argument used, since they were accused of aiding the Jews (oh the irony). This had everything to do with power and little else. From it's beginnings, the NSDAP had little love of Christianity, but realized that lip service would be necessary if they were to ever gain power due to the high concentration of devout Christians in the country. They also recognized the extreme amount of influence that church clergy had over their followers. This is why they agreed to never attack the Vatican and why when the Catholic church (and others) spoke against them, they were fast and brutal in their response. They could not allow church leaders to speak against them because they had the insight to know that it would destroy the loyalty of the populace.
The lack of competition issue really irritates me. Where I live, I have a choice between Comcast and Windstream. I refuse to use Comcast because it's more expensive and they choke bandwidth. Windstream's customer service is severely lacking in comparison though and it's also over priced. If I didn't live in an apartment I would definitely switch to satellite.
I for one do not want the US government providing my broadband access. Consider that this administration has had to go out of its way to perform warrentless wiretapping, and this resulted in an open loop that was able to be leaked to the public. Can you imagine if the US government was in full control of all telecommunications? I doubt we would have even known about the wiretapping because there would be no middle man.
Yes, for the Nazis, citizens who were Communists, Communist sympathisers, and basically anyone who questioned Hitler's rule were enemies and they intentionally treated them as such.
You completely missed the point. Snow White and Cinderella are public domain and older than Disney itself. As such, it makes no sense for them to be able to claim ownership over anything outside of their exact rendition of the story (script and animation cels). However, Kimba the White Lion was a rather recent story and still covered by copyright when they made the Lion King.
Disney has done some great original works that they should be applauded for, but the stories of Cinderella and Snow White most certainly do not belong to Disney.
It also has a tendancy to create even weirder fetishes. The more that you prevent people from seeing, it always seems to simply create a new undiscovered fetish for something that hasn't been censored yet.
I think the concern is that rape porn creates rapists. This is another case of assuming that association == causation. If they can provide substantial proof that watching rap porn will turn most people into rapists, then maybe this would have some justification. Now all they are doing is forcing rapists to blend into normal society even better.
Supporting a local economy that isn't even our own is not a legitimate reason. There are plenty of local economies in the US that could use some serious help.
A strategic interest makes a little more sense, but the Cold War is over, and the Berlin Wall fell a long time ago. It's Europe's job to be the first line of defense for Europe, not ours. In fact, staying in places like that, along with not involving Russia with missile defense only threatens to bring the Cold War back
Maybe if our federal government would get its head out of its ass, we wouldn't have that problem. Does anyone care to tell me a legitimate reason why we still have military bases in France? I encourage other nations to dislike us, since it's probably the only thing that might eventually knock some sense into our government.
I don't think too many people are buying Blackberries for Internet access (as in other than for e-mail use). In the corporate world, the whole point of the Blackberry is to be another tool to stay in communication in a world that is more and more using e-mail and network run scheduling tools. The corporate world needs a portable e-mail client. The fact that I have my e-mail and schedule immediately at my fingertips wherever I go has put a corporate leash on me like no iPhone ever could.
While I'm not bank executive, I am going to suspect that a bank will be far more concerned about the security of their ATMs than they about about how much those ATMs cost. Price is always an issue, but in the case of ATMs, it's likely to be secondary to security. Banks have a lot to lose if their ATMs are insecure. Government doesn't lose much of anything meaningful to them if their voting machines are insecure.

So obviously it's illegal to knowingly receive stollen property, but does this now mean it's also illegal to unknowingly receive stollen property?

Except for the fact that after the Catholic Church spoke out against the regime, Priests started ending up in concentration camps.
This argument is getting really old. How about you let me install a webcam in your bathroom? If you have nothing to hide then you wouldn't mind right?
I like my privacy, plain and simple.

It's sad that we're getting all of the bad and none of the good. Where's my rebounding economy and Bush Youth?
