I do not really like the idea of mandatory Id cards but on this particular story I have a differing opinion.
Although this is not with ID cards you already need a CRB check to work with children, this uses a photocopy of your passport to check who you are. If Id cards are a safer identifier of a person biometrics and all and if they can be used to instantly give a CRB check (only to appropriate bodys local councils, schools ect)then I have to say it's a great idea.
A person can wait up to six months to get a CRB check at the moment which in most cases means the person cannot start their job if working directly with children or have to be supervised if they work indirectly.

"the absence of similar antifeatures form some of the easiest victories for free software."
I am being lazy and hoping someone with edit on that site reads this. It would be nice if the site at least looked professional rather than a hobbyists project.
At least some of the four billion pounds spent on this scheme's tech can be used for biometric passports. Other than that the govt seems to have pissed alot of people off and left everyone else indifferent to a huge waste of tax payer money.
Having worked for a local council as an IT Engineer I can state that I had the ability to re-set everyone's log on passwords including people who worked with child services, If Someone left the machine locked but with the db open I could have easily accessed it.
The real problem with that was none of the Local council IT staff was required to have a crb check because they weren't working directly with children.
I have a vodafone smart phone and once I realised I couldn't watch porn on it I phoned Vodafone and got the block removed no cc needed and no proof of Id.
Maybe it's just an English thing but our schools activly encourage students to go out and learn about diverse viewpoints.
We teach sex education so surely students who want to read more into certain issues should be able to access website like the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the Human Rights Campaign.
If you don't want your children to be exposed to Gays, lesbians ect then keep them out of the public school system because sure as hell in a year of 200 students and a school of over 1000 some will be gay.
I was bored with my bland looking macboo so asked my girlfriend to spruce it up, left her for an hour with a few sharpie sand the lappy it now looks amazing!
If you don't like what your ISP is planning to do then change it. Personally I will be trying this:-

Does anyone have any experiance with them?
From the BBC article
"Supported by her local MP, Martin Salter, she found a listening ear in then home secretary, David Blunkett, who agreed to introduce legislation to ban the possession of "violent and extreme pornography"."
I feel this may be abit wrong but what the hell kind of rights does a blind man have to champion laws about images?
Small problem with encryption in the Uk, your legally bound to give the police the key if you don't then I believe the sentence for not doing so is pretty hefty.
Our governments started this war they should finish it not run away because we don't like what we have done.
In another context that comment could have been made by any primary school teacher. Grow up
My Access point at home is locked down as I'm away for a few months and can't be sure whether people will abuse it although when I get back I intend to allow access if people need it, I figure that as it IS illegal to connect to unsecured wifi within the Uk I will re-name it to something obvious for an intentionally open device.
As a side note whilst I have been away I have been stealing (yes i'm in the uk so the term is correct) someone else's wifi but I have also been searching for the owner so I can inform him of the state of his network. Although funny story last night it wouldn't work so after finding out the routers ip I connected to it and ran a fix on the connection:p hope he appreciates it, probably saved him a support call.
In the Uk it's illegal to withhold a password to encrypted data from the police so I would assume that they have the right to break any decryption they feel like, ofc this doesn't apply within the US.
Ignoring people doesn't promote healthy debate, If anything this should be discussed publicly and everyone with a stake in the issue allowed to have their say in truth this won't happen as the big media company's that give him Tv time will not care enough about proper reporting to allow the other opinions the same air time. If we ignore the issue and allow only one side to be portrayed then when this does come to the courts most non gamers will have been brainwashed with Thompsonite ideals and simply think they know all of the facts already.
I Dislike being modded Troll there, the comment was intended as a frank answer to the article using personal experiance.
Working within three schools and one other company also requiring a CRB.

Put on some scuba gear and go diving at night turn all the lights off spin around a few times and then tell me which way is up.
Now with a stimulating new vibrate function
Do you think they will sell this onto GM? So when I take the girlfriend shopping the car can explain to me how I am supposed to get it all home.
It is worth noting that the report was released in 07 and "Some of the data is now out of date"
The Disk hammer espescially designed for "wipeing" out those problamatic data stains.
