I rather like the default color scheme in VIM. As I do most of my coding in Dreamweaver now, I'd like to use the VIM scheme on that coding canvas. Any idea how to do that quickly?
If you don't interact with people in a social setting regularly, then you likely have serious emotional problems. Quit making stuff up. Not everyone sits in a cubicle all day, cursing society.
If the cyber- or otherwise-bullying that occurs outside of school is distressing enough to the student to have a negative impact on the school day, then the administration has the right and the DUTY to deal with the behavior. The legal precedent is long-standing that schools can enact punishment in response to behavior outside of the walls of the building.
How is an academic version of software the same as a pirated version? That doesn't make any sense at all.
I'm all for academic licenses for the reasons you mention--such as being able to learn the software before one has a corporate affiliation. But if the company is sending it out free to students, this is far from pirated. Pirated means downloaded illegally, cracked, stolen, etc. It wouldn't be appropriate for a school's tech person, for example, to install 35 copies of CS3 in the high school computer lab just so the kids can learn.
PHP and PERL (and others, I'm sure) will create thumbnails on the fly. Especially if you're factoring the image down to a messy number like 80%, it really doesn't look as sharp to have the browser take care of it. Nevermind that you're wasting bandwidth and user download time to send them a big image that is only being partly used.
Extreme edge cases? Please. When 1/3 (very conservative estimate) of homeless people are suffering from mental illness that renders them unable to earn a decent living, this represents something far greater than "extreme edge cases."
Iowa smashing Microsoft to become a hero would be the best thing to happen to Iowa since... uh... whatever the most recent "revolution" on farming was. Probably wouldn't have any real economic benefit- I can't imagine anyone would move to Iowa because they smashed Microsoft. Yes, because Iowa is farming only. Nice stereotype.
The chapter in Freakonomics about cheating teachers deals with this. If you have any interest in learning about how they detect such behavior, give the book a read.
Addiction is only as serious as the amount of distress it causes to the individual. This can be strain in relationships, work, or other daily activities. If the amount of time spent on the Internet is problematic to the person, it's just as much of an addiction as anything else.
I saw about 10 in a half hour. One was awesome...streaked about 60 degrees right across my field of view. It was cloudy earlier, but it has since cleared up (5:00am CDT).
Violent video games do cause people to be more aggressive. It doesn't mean that every person is going to act out on it. Rather, everyone's baseline aggression level is increased a bit. It could mean that a person's violent behavior threshold is reduced, or it could mean that their heart rate is increased for a while. It's going to depend on the interaction between the person and the stimulus.

I know it's hard, but try to read the article. They don't say that homicide is the only way that violent video games are harmful.
They say "almost", not "worse than"
Check it.
You're assuming that the only way to measure harm is murder rate. That's short-sighted and inaccurate.
We're talking about increased aggression here, which does not necessarily translate into homicide rates.

edit: this refers to US law

Yeah, pirated software is really appropriate for education....
How 'bout GIMP?
In the US, stay tuned for Verizon's rollout of the same feature...to be called "Get-it-on-now"!
(For those of you not in the US, Verizon already has an on-demand service called "Get-it-now")

The better question is why you're using the browser to resize images.

I'm glad the problem is so simple. If people just weren't so lazy, the world will be so much better.
Mental illness? Disability? Inadequate educational opportunities?
It's really easy to criticize and throw down the "lazy" card when you've never had to deal with any of these problems.
Check out this "revolution" from Iowa

Just code your e-mail address in the server-side script.
It's been said before, and I'll say it again...

In other news, Hotmail sets the record for allowing the most spam through it filters.
My current empirical estimate is 1,000,000,000 per day.
OSS, no subscription fees, fairly straightforward to build.
Also, you OWN the recordings once you've made them.
A kid in my college dorm died from DXM. Good luck.

Wrong again... Movie Downloaders OK Burning Studios
I use a magnet to change each bit!
You'd understand what's going on if you just RTFA.
