    but eventualy you will not have a choice. as windows 2k goes more and more out of support, hardware maker will not create drivers for it. windows xp driver might sustain you for a while but eventualy you will be forced to upgrade as your computers will slowly cease to function. Not to mention the lack of application support. If you have a spare hardware you might be abble to evade this fate for a few years. But we all must upgrade, hardware demands it.

    As opposed to the company that charged you to play dvd on they're media player, or the compagnit that charge you to do basic routing on theyre server os... frankly i find the incremental update bit old. Apple is not the only company that charge for incremental update or haven't you heard of windows 98? So they release a new os every 18 months or so, nobody is forcing you to buy. And the next version will have all the feature of the previous and so on. You don't really need to run the latest os you know.

    Blame the network, babylon 5 was supposed to be 5 seasons. The original planning calles for that but the network (forgot witch one was financing at the time.. NBC? nahhh) decided to cut it back to four season only. So the fourth season was rushed. And then at the last minute they decided to ok a fifth season and the production team should have said no.

    True, but it depend a by on your licensing setup. if your windows server are 2k and your license are by connection it could unable you replace your aging windows 98 client at a low cost for an os that can probably run on your actual hardware or you can change the hardware of your client it makes no differerance since the cal are assigned to you server. If your license per seat. You are forced to keep the same hardware on the client but you can replace the os since the cal is assigned to the machine. Now this might be a bit different with 2k3 since they have changes the licence term for the cal.

    But what about europe. software patent are not valid there. what is going to happen if microsoft sue open office for patent infrigment? Would the europen commission force microsoft to pay up again? And what about all that talk with ibm and there big patent portfolio. Will they simply sit back and watch ?

    Microsoft is not operating in a vacum. Open source project like open office are a lot more difficult to attack then a big compagny creating an infringing product simply because they are develloped world wide and supported by a lot of different compagny.

    Could they use the RIAA tactic of suing the little guy and hoping that they don't fight back?

    Rpg are what drove me to gaming, i'm not to keen on the old advanture game model, the text base game, the mud, they all seem like to much work, go east, look inside the chest... etc. Now rpg good old japanese rpg with the bad translation, and the combat system... that is the life. i still play ff4 once a year or so. just to rename tellah diner....XD Still it seem a shame that all the games nowadays are cutting back on the story writing to make better graphic. I still remember systemshock i know how a fps could have a good story while atomising bad guys. Now tell me why with most games todays you could sumerise the story in five line including all the plot twist?

    i don't know the main appeal of mines as a weapon is it's cheapness. you can effectively protect vast area with a few thousand american dollard. And the mines can stay there for years and years mainly because they are simple in design. If smart mines are to be popularised they must rival in cost and durability with no so smart ones. you have to remember that smart mines might be less leathal to civilians after the conflict... but usualy during a conflict no one seem to care much about the after...

    i'm very interested if free dos can do usb support. the ability to use ghost 2k3 with an usb hd is like the holy grail.... ok maybe not. but for any tech that invented new bad work and new variation using the three letter word trying to ghost some image on a usb harddrive this could be a lifesaver.

    Sony could have dominated the mp3 player market. At a time when flash player where not carrying more than 128 meg of data netmd player's where cheap and good.

    sight if only hi-md came to the market sooner, if only sony would have open up it's interface for a small licence fee... if only they did not limit the bloody thing to atrac and sonic stage. hi-md players could have easely rivaled the mini.

    after all 45 hours of music on a single, generic, AA battery is not to be ignored .

    But an ipod once it's battery is dead can still be used as an external hard drive, it's battery can be replaced, just not by you, it's hard drive can be upgraded.... etc. this dvd is static.

    if you don't know what your doing a linux box can be as unstable as jello on a trempoline. I agree however that a windows box is quick to setup compared to a linux box. But the différence is that once you setup a stable linux box. You dont have to touch it ever. Except to patch, and admin. But if you documented your config correctly the minute you have to build another one. it's a snap.
