as the trend has become in recent years, just a bloody mess, filled with gore, more gore and naked women.
You mean like Hostel?:)
Not that I disliked Hostel. I actually enjoyed it, in particular because of the T&A and the gore. But as far as a horror flick goes, the second half was pretty generic....
I had the same experience. I had this POS Radio Shack thing that played Pong, while several of my friends had Atari 2600's. I kept trying to get my parents to spring for one, but they wouldn't budge...
The whole Republican talking points of "The Democrats did it too" is really getting old, especially from a president who, as part of his campaign, promised to restore "honor and dignity to the White House".
And don't even get me started on the R's accusations of living in a "pre 9/11" world.....
I think you missed the grandparent post's point. At $60K/yr in most of the midwest, you can buy a standard 3BR/2BA house and have an entire family live in it supported by a single wage earner. In Orange County (where I live as well), the salary needed to buy a median-priced home is $120K/yr, and that's with one of those interest-only loan gimmicks.
I do agree with you as well that not being able to afford a house is more than offset by the gorgeous women, great weather, and all there is to do here.
(BTW didn't Bush's mob FUND terrorists like the taliban a while back???)
Yep. That's what happens when "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" becomes part of foreign policy. The taliban were fighting against the Soviets, so the taliban became the "Good Guys".
Reminds me of a quote from "Things Republicans Believe", available (among other places) at http://www.stallman.org/republicanBeliefs.html
"Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden"
diversion."
That matches my experience. When I was six I moved from Los Angeles to Denmark. I learned Danish very quickly, and eventually spoke it so well that Danes thought I was Danish.
Of course, after I moved back to the States I forgot Danish almost as quickly since I didn't speak it after returning. *sigh*
Well, the post here
asked for something to support the claim that all of Canon's lens would work on the Digital Rebel, which my post was attempting to do. Admittedly my tone could have been better.....
But yeah, I admit I got suckered in by Canon's marketing department. Happy now?
As far as thinking linearly, I'd love to, but ADD keeps me from doing so.
Or, are you saying you plan on doing TTL metering with an AIS lens on a Nikon N80? It's mount compatible, but that doesn't mean a thing. The N80 doesn't support TTL metering with old glass.
Point taken. You obviously know more about Canon lenses than I do.
Again, I revert back to the point I made in a previous post, that canon's glass is garbage, and the fact that they have specific digital-optimized glass is a testament to this fact.
Um, I don't recall singing the praises of Canon glass....
Sure, you can use the other 90% of Canon's glass on the digital rebel, but you will have issues with image quality, with the exception of their high-end glass.
Which I didn't know, (and said so in a reply to another one of your posts) so thank you for pointing that out.
Canon's OWN EF-S line which they say is "specifically designed for the Digital Rebel" is only usable on the Digital Rebel.
Which I already knew and never disputed. In fact, I stated the same thing in another post in this same thread.
So buy the Nikon D70 when it comes out - it'll accept Nikon's less-expensive lenses.:)
But seriously, I have no idea why B&H, et al would say that when both the web site and the brochure specifically say it will accept the entire AF lens line.
the brocure does not give me a list of what will absolutely work with the camera.
See page 16 (or "9 of 10") in the bottom left corner.
Yeah, I'm just a random slashdot person, but had you bothered to download the brochure from the link in my reply to your previous post, you would have found the following on page 9 of the pdf document:
"World-renowned Canon EF Lenses are favorites of professionals for their optical brilliance and endless versatility. The Digital Rebel accepts
all of these lenses, (emphasis mine) from ultra wide-angle to super telephoto and everything in between, including fish-eye, macro, and tilt-shift lenses."
make something that is very like the Canon Rebel digital for $699.00 street price can use cheaper nikon or pentax lenses
I don't know where you get the idea that Nikon lenses are cheaper. At B&H Photo, a 50mm f/1.8 Canon lens is $70, while the same by Nikon is $100. (Can't comment on Pentax, as I'm not familiar with their products.)
the canon rebel is awesome, but it will only use high-price lenses making it pretty much out of reach for the common joe-photog wannabe.
Again, I don't know where you get that idea. Granted, the kit lens that comes with the Digital Rebel won't work on their film cameras, but the above Canon lens will work just fine on the Digital Rebel. You can find out for yourself by downloading the Digital Rebel brochure One of the main selling points of that camera is that it can use Canon's entire AF line of lenses.
You know, not all call centers are like you describe. I've worked in a call center for almost 2 years (as a grunt, not management), and you know what? I like my job. They pay me well, I get training, and they know and appreciate my talent (I've done some type of Unix support for 11 years). And the best part? I get to use my sysadmin skills *without* wearing a pager, and without taking my job home with me. All in all it's a pretty good gig.
wait for the flame wars about why its GNOME and not KDE, and vice versa...:P
Note: I work for Sun, but I don't speak for them in any way whatsoever.....
There was some discussion about this on the internal Linux mail alias, and IIRC, the consensus had something to do with C++ not being a "standardized" language.
Or something like that. I'm not a programmer, so I'm probably not using the correct terminology.
Banks sell your information all the time. Well I'll be dipped in shit! You're right!!! I just cruised over to my bank's web site, and sure enough, they said they do it. They also provided an address to send requests that they don't sell your info. My letter's already printed out.........
the public utilities commission in Oregon decided to fine them as long as they continued to fail miserably at achieving customers service levels and installation/repair levels.
IIRC, all the PUC's in USW's 14 state region have fined them at some point over the past few years.
I am absolutely amazed that the PUC wasn't able to step in and step this merger.
Almost all 14 states put conditions on the merger, where Qwest/USW had to agree to increase service levels and spend a minimum amount on infrastructure. Of course what's going to happen if they don't do it? You think the merger is going to fail 2-3 years down the road because they didn't do what they agreed to do? Yeah, right. I just hope those "conditions" had some teeth to them........
Bill Joy had employee number 6.
Bechtolsheim is employee number 1; McNealy is number 3.
I don't know what Kosla's was, nor who numbers 2, 4, or 5 are/were.

Maybe if you touched one you would know this.
Maybe if you had noticed the part where he said he sold his on Ebay you wouldn't have made the above comment....
Well said. I wish I had mod points....

Anyone got a link to the business 2.0 article that doesn't require a subscription?
It's a hoax
A false news report from Fox?! Say it isn't so!

Or do you not remember typing the following bit:
[snip]
Yes, I do remember typing that.
What I said I didn't know was the usability of the lens. You did read my reply to your comment here, didn't you?
BTW, cool web site you've got... :)
Or, are you saying you plan on doing TTL metering with an AIS lens on a Nikon N80? It's mount compatible, but that doesn't mean a thing. The N80 doesn't support TTL metering with old glass.

Ah, so the cheap lenses work, just not as well.
:)
I'm so glad I went with Nikon.....

Do tell us some of those! :-)
I'm obviously reading the wrong books.....
Methinks you're trolling, but I'll bite.......

Bra-vo!! You hit the nail squarely on the head!
And don't forget that ESB had the benefit if Irvin Kirshner directing. IIRC, that's the only SW movie with someone other than Lucas as director.
Speaking of goofy scenes/movies, remember that Lucas came out with one of the worst movies of all time: "Howard The Duck"!
You're partially right. They did encounter some known Oracle problems, specifically with intimate shared memory.
They were definitely *not* running 2.5; an E10K requires >=2.5.1. Their high profile outages last year were while running 2.6.
