You mean it doesn't work!?!? I've been forwarding those dang things for 7 years now trying to make an honest buck, and you tell me now!
Seriously, do the people who fall for this even think to consider the ramifications of their e-mail being tracked by Microsoft in the first place? That was a rhetorical question, of course - anyone stupid enough to go for this crap isn't smart enough to know he has civil rights, much less care about whether it's the government or a big corporation taking them away.
It is specifically the inability to tell right from wrong that I hold against script kiddies. Network security officers would be wise to run script kiddie attacks against their own networks and plug the holes that they find.
Script kiddies are either stupid or evil. Possibly both.
The key point to remember is that a mauve paradigm shift will more robustly develop synergy and foster a more scalable environment of positive collegiality utilizing a next-generation digital framework powered by web-enabled e-commerce applications.
I never said a word about getting a dream job straight out of college. I'm talking about getting a job that will give you the experience you need to get your dream job later on.
It's a chicken-and-the-egg problem. The real problem, though, is that for a few years in the late 90's companies were handing out eggs left and right to everyone they could. When the floor fell out in the early 2000's, everyone got laid off, including people with 10+ years of experience with very specific technologies that are in demand now. What this means is that those people will be hired back first as the market recovers and, if there are any jobs left, you'll have a chance at that time. Find what work you can, keep your skills up, and keep applying for jobs.
I and many of my colleagues had predicted the storm would pass by the end of 2003. It's still here, and I'm revising my prediction: without knowing the right people (of which there are few), an entry-level programmer will not be able to get a job that matters (i.e., gives him experience that is at all pertinent to his dream job) until 2010 or later.
I even RTFA and didn't see any mention of how much they might cost.
I think that, right now, these fall under the general heading "if you don't know the price, you can't afford it anyhow". Like a used McLaren F1 or a mint M60.
even Shakespearre used to play on mispronunciation and poor grammar.
Shakespeare, aside from being able to spell his own name, was a master of correct pronunciation and grammar, as well as a master of the iambic pentameter he wrote in. He took advantage of both areas of expertise to make his plays on mispronunciation (by enforcing an incorrect pronunciation using meter) and grammar.
It's true that some rappers are masters of the language and do the same thing that Shakespeare did. It's also true that some rappers have a fantastic sense of wit and can write puns like nobody's business. However, this is not a universal trait shared by all rappers, just as not all of Shakespeare's contemporaries shared his talent and abilities.
Your friend was pretty short-sighted. How can people honestly expect the whole world to dedicate itself solely to the problems they feel are important? Rape and child abuse are not the only problems in the world, which you'd find out in a hurry if every computer programmer (or practicer of any other profession) ran off to try to prevent rape and child abuse.
If a psych. major "friend" said that to me, she'd be sure to hear that the women and children are asking for it, or at least that I studied CS because I like programming, just like she studies child abuse and rape because she likes abusing children and being raped. But, then again, I'm in the George Carlin "rape can be funny" camp, and don't much care for anyone telling me what I should be doing with my life or how I should be thinking.:)
For complete freedom, you have to be willing to live with the consequences. In a society with free speech, some people may say things you don't like. In a society with freedom of privacy, some criminals may get away because of it. Code that is completely "free as in speech" can be used by others to compete against its original author. That's just the way it works.
There's actually a difference between the two. I don't mind calling it 7.62 NATO, but if anyone asks the diameter of the bullet, I'm giving it in inches.:)
PS: If you're hunting ducks with.308 Win, you have deeper issues than whether it's a manly-sounding caliber.:P
The only improvement for Google I can think of is for them to add regex searches:D. A lot of pitfalls and obstacles come to mind for that though.
I'd like to see proximity searches, like "Jane within 5 words of Doe" or "atomic within the same paragraph as mutants". Too often, I am left wanting a compromise between searching for an exact phrase and searching for the words in that phrase, and not getting the correct results.
Was there an existing criminal investigation here? My thought is that, if a cop can't give you a reason for his suspicion, he doesn't have a reasonable suspicion.
It takes particularly bad writing to make Patrick Stewart look bad, but they did it. Some of the acting talent wasn't so great, and you can can debate Kirk vs. Picard all day, but Stewart is a better actor than Shatner, for sure.
We'd find Canada a lot quicker if you just called it by its real name: "Hat". Or "Toque", in the Canadian native language.

Yeah...BSD is dead. DOS is alive and kicking. ;)

Anyone who is smart enough to hack, is smart enough (save for those with mental problems) to realize the difference between right and wrong.
But anyone who is dumb enough to be a script kiddie and call himself a hacker is dumb enough to not realize the difference between right and wrong.

You can rest assured it will be blown way out of proportion as soon as it hits the Slashdot front page. :)

But I digress...
Dude...you did a hell of a lot more than just digress, there!
No university is devoid of students with rich attorneys in the family.
Did you do the math on that? I'm way too lazy to check, myself. :P

I wonder if his tombstone will read Here lies Bob Bemer 1920-19104

You wear pants?
