  2. Re:A business expense? on State Technology Taxes Face Stiff Resistance · · Score: 2

You're missing his point. At the point of sale, states have no rights to collect taxes if it's on an out of state sale. Then, once the product is given/delivered to the end user, their home state doesn't have that information to collect the tax normally, since the seller is from another state. The end user is supposed to declare this spending and pay taxes on it, but nobody does, and it's really rough trying to figure it out from the state's point of view. They don't have access to the financials from companies located physically outside of the state, so they're SOL in figuring out that I bought a copy of some software from Amazon.

How does this relate to the GP's point? When a company declares that they bought a copy of Win7 as a deduction, then they also have to pay sales taxes on it, since the state government now has a record of the sale, so they can collect their sales/usage tax. It's the same reason why you don't get away with buying a car somewhere like New Hampshire to avoid paying sales taxes on it - you have to provide the proof of your purchase to your state government in order to register it. There's some technicalities around that, but for the most part, the loopholes aren't easy.

France isn't a theocracy. It'd take much more than one man's decree to ban things the same way Muslim countries do. On top of that, having a large group of Muslims ban things based on their beliefs isn't bad - it's only bad when it's forced upon a large group of other people. I think it's a shitty way to live, but they're more than welcome to have their own non-fun in their neck of the woods.

Consider Mighty No. 9, where they asked for 900k, developed by veterans of both the industry and the genre (who have insanely strong credentials, like Keiji Inafune, who was Capcom's Head of Production until 2010 and co-created Megaman).

You do have to consider that studios that go with Kickstarter tend not to be massive development studios like you see with EA-style development. Bioware, for example, has about 800 people spread across 5 studios, so in the ballpark of 160 people per studio. A budget of $1m doesn't go very far in that environment, but Cyan only has 40 employees.

B&W is specialized heavily into nuclear power. All are government contractors for very specialized tasks within their respective fields, all of which include nuclear power, and I don't see how that has any bearing on their interest in LLNL.

For the feel of the car, you don't need a dealership with hundreds of cars sitting around to make this work. Let GM open a test drive center where they have that same number of cars. You get rid of the dealerships for many miles around this location, and just use this as your "look and feel" test platform. If you want the car, you can get one through this location, but it's mainly for people to see what they're offering.

For the colors, I've found that dealerships tend not to have available all of the color options for many of their cars anyway. For example, when I went to look at the Scion FR-S I now drive, they had a single color option - black. Every other color is a custom order. They didn't have any coming into stock in any of the other colors, either, and I know because I saw the list of their upcoming inventory - mind you, this is the biggest Toyota dealership within 30 miles of where I live. This is, quite literally, a year-old model that they can't keep on the lot in any color. It's a Subaru/Toyota jointly developed, and Subaru is still has a lead time of months to get your hands one of theirs (the BRZ).
