"People don't recognize that Third World nations need something more sustainable than a band-aid. By giving these people food and clothing, all that is accomplished is a temporary fix and a few feel good points for those who donated. Really Third World nations need to be taught how to fish so-to-speak."
Organizations such as the Peace Corps and many others have spent the past 50+ years trying to educate Africans and "teach them how to fish". 50 years later they are still poor, starving and illiterate. It's time to face the reality that nobody wants to admit.
You also have many others giving stuff away, plus "charitable" dumping(selling things at a loss and counting it as charity. Educational programs are a drop in the bucket that often teach people to rely on foreign tech that is donated. What is really needed is a way to motivate people to survive, learn, earn, and organize without causing dependence(hopefully without their knowledge, yeah and it rains frogs sometimes to.)
When you write your resume (or talk during an interview), you don't say "I worked on XYZ". No one gives a flying duck about what you worked on, because there's at least 10000 people who worked on the same thing, no matter how niche. What people care (and not only dumb ass PHBs and HR), is your achievements. The net gain you provided, the "out of the ordinary" stuff that pushes you ahead of others.
So that line : "and I saved project Z and single handed brought it from a failure to a viable product" is the most important one of the bunch, and thats a sure fire job lander.
Unless said statement trips the interviewer's BS meter like it did mine. A solid contribution to something related to the job or even better that the company uses is a better choice.
Hey, be nice to the Basic Programming cartridge. If it weren't for that lovely piece of history, you wouldn't be reading my inflammatory rants because I'd have found something better to do:)
Seriously, the fact that I taught myself Basic by age 4 is proof that these things could indeed be educational. At the very least, it taught me that interpreted languages are horribly slow, and by that virtue coaxed me into learning the nitty gritty of assembly language.
That said, the early 80's were boring times. I highly doubt any kid today would have the total boredom required to sit down in front of a computer and actually learn something, when mind-numbing items like Neopets are just a click away.
You do remember this is for developing countries right. At the 12$ price range Internet connections would not be affordable and they may want to learn something get them out of the hole they are in.
He should not have even allowed them to know about the system if he was going to sell it and used corporate intermediaries when he did. The most proper way would have been to gone for commendations and a good record. Later if he got shafted, in theory he could apply for back pay on time spent learning and coding. The ruling was rather heavy handed and not even need sovereign immunity directly. Allot of court cases are popping up that never should have reached litigation/prosecution let alone the courtroom.
All the posts I have read say either go for it or that your family is more important than your happiness, with some with some sympathizers telling their stories. I say review how your life is going. Try to figure out how to make it better without drastic changes. I read some were that someone did a study and concluded being happy takes allot of energy. That means you have to try to be happy. It is not just a given no matter how good your situation is.
You might be little depressed so maybe some therapy. I recently found a book called "Mind Over Mood" on cognitive therapy that would not even require a therapist although you could probably use it better with one.
That maybe how a manager would try to use this, but I don't think it would work people would get paranoid about it and performance would lower. It seems to this device detects mental fatigue. So instead of trying to cover mistakes... give the worker an option of taking a break so they will not make a mistake.
I would suggest you find a better reference seeing as how that study admits that it does test to see if they had real passwords in any way(I mean they could later explain, and ask, or use some other means of non-illegal verification.)
It always seemed to me that transmeta was a victim of the dot com boom and the 15 minutes of fame it gave them. That publicity raised expectations and warned competitors before they were ready.
One thing about fully or partially automated UAVs is that AI pilot/driver error will tend to take all of machines off the battle field, other-wise one human pilot/driver is grounded/suspended.
I think a major reason why strait answers are hard to come by is a candidate does not know(it does not go over well with the voters to say this.) They do not have the information on they would have when in office(I think some broken promises can be traced back to this.) Or, they do not know what compromises they will have to make to be effective at any thing. When in the real world dealing with what others want, and the pragmatic issues of getting things done, we can't always get what we want, or even what we need.
While I am not anti-gun, I have-to agree that cutting welfair can cause the crime rate to go up. If more people need money, then those who are willing to steal will to get the money they need. Instead of attacking the person, refute, answer what they say, or give better example, please.
All of the posts I've seen are looking at this move as how does this affect, me or apples business model or their product. I'm seeing this IBM vs Intel. On one side we have IBM who had certain comitments when apple signed on with them such as Mhz. who has seemed awful distracted by the cell and Xbox, both of witch have massive amounts of multithreading a much bigger step than moving to the 86. Now we have intel who is not making any radical changes/gambles in architechure, because of the need to support legacy systems. Intel who is also cheaper and wants them badly. Who would you choose
He may have actually been convinced that his original policy was wrong(after all he is not in office yet.)
I fail to see how this post is insightful. Seeing as how BSD deliberately gives away most of the authors rights.

Terms of employment in the military you are always employed unless they specifically say otherwise. It is the military way.

just look at companies profits and earnings statements.

I would just love something that will tell me when to take a break or a nap.

Yeah, they don't want any rivals.

This would have more impact on me if militants were not attacking infrastructure in Iraq right now.
