  1. keyboard on Meet the Laptop of 2015 · · Score: 1

I like a tactile keyboard as much as the next fella' and would likely hate typing on one of those touchscreen things ... but I wonder how much of that is just habit. My grandmother was used to pounding on her typewriter and thought a keyboard was flimsy and felt "wrong". Who knows what 10 years from now folks will think.

  3. Community Support on Ubuntu Continues to Grab Market Share · · Score: 1

I run Xubuntu and rather like it. Yes, ubuntu is great because it's user friendly n' all. But that's not it's biggest advantage. Have a look at the support forum. It's really good. Questions are answered quickly and well. Folks are very supportive and helpful. It's that community support that makes me recommend ubuntu. I realize that many of the question asked/answered are not ubuntu specific (and there are a fair number of non-u linux users that post) -- but having the same distro does make everything just that much easier (and having that sense of community isn't half bad either). Ubuntu wins because of the Forums.

I like the idea, but will the folks who use ingimp be at all representative of the user population at large? ... Especially of the user population that would complain about accessibility / usability. Is it worth it or is anyone talking about making such a thing an integral part of any project?

  5. Re:low friend count? on The Psychology of Facebook Examined · · Score: 1

I have ~150 friends. Yes, I've added a lot of people that I aren't super-duper-close friends. If all I added were my super-duper-close friends there would be no point to facebook - I talk to those people every day. I use it so that I can keep a link alive to people that I'm not very close to but cross paths with from time to time. Of course facebook-friend doesn't mean rl-friend, but that's ok, it still serves a purpose for me. It would be sad if all the 'net did was replace old interaction. I hope it is adding something new. I still have my rl-super-duper-close friends, but I also have a larger network of folks that I know and I have a tool of staying in touch with them.

  6. Re:Just Say No To The Drugs... on Psychopharm Going 'Mainstream' In Schools? · · Score: 1

Smoking has gone down because of government intervention. Massive public campaign ads and school programs worked and lowered the number of kids picking up a pack of smokes. Lately the government has been cutting the money for these sort of programs. Guess what happens... yup, kids start smoking again. You don't have to throw people in jail, but you do need the government (aka the collective will of the people) to take a stand.

When I ran for school board I tried finding the needed information for filing on the county website. No matter how hard I looked it simply wasn't there. On a whim I tried IE [instead of firefox] - and voila that menue bar on the left turned out to have 5 not 3 items and use javascript to expand. Someone might have been disenfranchised.
