Wow, just wow. I'm sorry I made the mistake of continuing this argument with you. Anyone who uses ad hominem attacks at 90% of their debate deserves to be ignored. I deeply apologize to myself for taking you seriously.
You completely mistake my post and the purpose behind it. I am not a "Greenhouse denier" as you claim. I am not knowledgeable enough on the topic to have an educated opinion of it. The purpose of the post is to comment on the parent post's stance on Geologists and its misguided opinion of them.
I have not stated that I myself am a geologist. I am currently studying geology and it is my major. My comments come from conversations that I have had with geologists. While your post is a wonderful attack against someone, you fired the shot at the wrong target pal. Judging by the tact and reason you use, I would hazard to guess that you are not a scientist but someone that has read what you feel is enough on the topic for you to give yourself the license to blast people in forums.
What I did state that is well known in geology, you are welcome to check me on on this (which I know you wont), is what I posted about the general trend of temperatures to rise or fall depending one whether the earth is heading to or coming out of an ice age. However, it is a climb or fall with a lot of little dips and spikes. Does that make what is happening now not man made? No, not necessarily. It is just what has happened in the past.
"Geologists mostly work for the oil business, which is where most of the money for the entire science comes from, their peers who review, their "next gig pool"."
Wow, I am glad we have an expert on the geology field on this forum. I didn't know that my field of study was all about oil. I always thought that environmental geology might have something to do with dealing with various environmental hazards that affect the earth. I also always kind of thought that Hydrogeology had do do with studying, mapping, and managing ground water. It't news to me also that vulcanologists must study oil in volcanos. Considering that Environmental Geology and Hydro Geology are huge fields right now, I humbly request that you return your opinion to the orifice it came out of.
Geology includes in its field aspects of the earth's climate before recorded history. Since man has only really documented tempuratures and climate reliably in the past couple hundred years it is important that we look at the geologic record of climate change in order to understand how it works and what it has done.
As far as some Geologists are concerned, the changes in climate that we have been experiencing are noting out of the norm. In the roughly 100,000 year cycle of ice ages climate shows only a trend of cooling and warming coming out of and going into an ice age. It is not a steady curve. It is full of jagged edges. An example of this would be the mini-ice age that occured in the middle ages. Some are even not convinced that we are entirely out of the last ice age (we are only about 10,000 years out of the peak of it.)
The truth that the geologic record tell us is that the ice caps will melt, the oceans will rise, and the earth is going to get alot warmer.
Is man made global warming happening? I will not proclaim to know that answer, but don't to discount geologists observations on the topic is just flat moronic. If you want to know how things were on the earth 200 years ago, you can open history books. If you want to know how things were on the earth 200,000 years ago, you start talking to geologists. The answers are in the rocks.
I do agree that any attempt of a balanced Rifts video game would have to sacrifice the amazingly unbalanced nature of the game. You couldnt have PC dragons and PC human scouts on the same playing field and have it be fair. Making such a game would be quite a momentous task.
Rifts is a fantastic setting for an MMO. As other people have said, the game mechanics are attrocious. When making it into a computer game, however, all those mechanics can be trashed and just the world setting used. If they got a deal going, I would definitely be paying attention. I bought the Rifts rule book when it first came out.
A pirate MMO! . . . made by Disney . . . awwww crap. I suspect this game will be too PC to be enjoyable. I am thinking like Pirates of the 6th Grade School Holloween Dance.
I wish I knew what the settlement was so I could contribute some money to the families of the kids that put that video on the net. I think the entertainment provided from it is worth a few bucks from each of us. I want to thank those kids that had the vision to see a net sensation in the making. This should not cost those families a dime.
Well, there still are lots of free mods for Oblivion on PC. I think the fleecing of 360 owners is pretty crappy. I think that offering the mods for free would be a good promotion for the game and bring more sales.
Really, who didn't see this coming? Movies that required a $300 device to play and were lower resolution than DVDs? Sony did not push the format any further. They didn't make cheaper players for the UMDs to make them an alternative mobile option to larger, and easier to scratch, DVDs. They also, of course, didn't license the technology to anyone else to expand the market. What do they say about people that repeatedly do the same thing but expect different results each time?
I am glad to see Monty Python get together to do something. Too bad it is not on a higher profile station. I think their comedy is timeless and I like seeing it brought back for the younger generation so they can see a comedic style that still has not been duplicated.
and I would like to conclude by putting my finger up my nose . . .
I can understand them wanting to go in a different direction than the way SWG was, however, to completely change the game around 1-2 years after its release is only going to anger people. By this point, the people that were initially looking to play the kind of game that they are changing in to are already gone. The only people that were still playing were those that had accepted the old system. They are, essentially, trying to turn SWG into SWG2, on the fly. I think that SOE painted themselves into a corner and instead of working on a whole new game, where they could change the game, they thought they would try to fix mistakes that they made ago when the game was first in development. It is way too late for that and this endeavor is doomed to failure.
Well, think of all the Port-a-potties that have to be set up? Do you think they are just going to have a town or a gas station set up overnight so you have a nice place to relieve yourself before the battle? AND those lvl 60s are going to have to wipe with something. The peacebloom should keep them smelling nice and flowery also.
His potshot at gamers is irrelevant to the entire scope of his assault on game makers. Regardless of what sort of activity gaming is, escapist, masterbatory or otherwise, it is the choice of gamers to do it. Making snide comments towards gamers just shows more of the cheap, petty, 6th grade personality of Jack Thompson. He will fail because he cant restrain himself from showing his true inner person. That inner person is mean spirited and pathetic.
I am floored that the company is actually going to produce something . . . period. It is pretty funny though. I imagine their investors were thrilled at that meeting.
"Well, guys, sorry, no system yet, but we have a really neato mouse and keyboard. Just so you know, your invested millions of dollars has not gone to waste. A few more million and we might be able to make a white remote control we can sell also."
While it is easy to jump to the conclusion that this would be used on their DVDs and games, I don't think this is the aim of this technology. Even Sony isn't that oblivious to the marketplace. This technology is probably intended for either high end software protection, i.e. $1k+ or disks ment for VERY limited distribution. I could see this as a product they would offer to companies that sell professional software for limited applications.
According to the guys on the expansion and quest panel at BlizzCon eventually you will be able to fight Arthas, but that is not this expansion. When asked, "Why not Northrend?". One dev responded "Let me put it this way, do you honestly think that Arthas is level 70?"
There were also mentions of places beyond The Outlands through portals. 70 is certainly not the last level increase.
I was playing online last night and it was like the internet had a stroke. WoW went down but I was still on voice chat with my friends. My trace routes were timing out at at about 5 hops down the line.
Jack is just a desperate man who has seen all his attempts at political notice go away. He sees himself as far more important than he is and does not believe that he need political allies. He thinks that they will flock to him if he gets big enough.
In short, his actions are that of a frustrated individual. The attack against The Sims and Will Wright should be a dead giveaway. Any rational champion of the cause would have paraded the The Sims around as a decent entertainment and attempted to create catagories of "decent" and "indecent" developers. They also would have done extensive research. Thompson's lack of research, when his profession is built around research, shows that he is not actually interested in the subject itself, only the notice it brings him. He is getting old now, though, and he is seeing his chances at political advancement starting to slip away from him. His desperation shows in his mistakes.
Because we all know that limiting of certain sexual expression in published media is FAR more restrictive than the outlawing of entire political philosophies and political parties . ..
Even supposedly free Canada has outlawed speech that is derogatory toward certain groups.
People tend to believe that since bad language and sex is not allowed on our broadcast media here, or that some states outlaw certain sex acts on media, that we are somehow more restrictive on free speech than other countries. The truth is that the most important form of free speech, the expression of political beliefs and the freedom to express ideas EVEN if they are derogatory to another group is unrestricted in the US. The same can be said for very few countries in the world.
I think a more correct analogy would be holding an auto manufacturer liable for not making sure that their car is 100% resistant to theft. People buy cars all the time with certain security features and the cars are still stolen.
Yea! Lets go back and sue Nintendo for Duck Hunt! That light gun may have made people trained and effective dog killers!

After reading what they had to say about Resident Evil 4 I kinda want to play it now.
Has this list sold anyone else on one of these games?
"Mooooom, the picture of Billy is eating Billy."

That China could set up thier own web and then break the connection to the US for a while?
Woohooo! No Chinese gold farmers in WoW for a while! W00t!

There was an Oregon? Whoa. I think the game needed to give you an option to just setup shop and sell meat and skins.
