QNX is used in plenty of time critical, fail safe systems. Drive down the street and stop at the intersection. Chances are the stoplight is being powered by an embeded version of QNX. They even use it for hospital lifesystem devices. QNX basically kicks the shit out of all time & safety OS's.
actually that's pretty cool. it's true that you can make something similiar for cheaper but they are probably targeting it torwards audiophiles that don't want to spend a lot of time building a box. the software and intergration on it sounds to be pretty slick and it has optical outputs which most sound cards don't. there probably a pretty good chance that you can upgrade the harddrive to something bigger and it also has etherenet ports and a modem on it to automatically get the cddb databases. $1500 might be a little too much for it but I certainly think $1100 is pretty resonable for a high end stereo component.
I know otaku and this guy is a big name in the homebrew developer group. He's also done profesional projects and many other homebrew projects for other consoles.
Everyone is saying that it is Atlantis but theres a possibility that it could be Lemuria which existed before Atlantis and could explain why it was found so deep in the water as it would have had more time for the oceans to rise. Just a thought.
I think I would much rather spend the $10.00 a month for a subscription to XM radio which allows you to recieve digital audio virtually anywhere that can get sat. reception. Might not be able to get the exact song you want on demand but you atleast get very high quality, unlimited listening and you can pick a genre of the type of music you want to hear and recieve it. Plus it works in a car so you can actually use it outside the house.
Even though they have the DNA they are using another animal to host it and this isn't that safe. they are trying to bring back an extinct one that will now be similar but different because of the process used to re-create it. Playing god and creating a new animal is bad karma
Instead of just automatically making it decide for you that it's going to tweak up quake3 it should have given the option to either allow you to or not. I personally don't see anything wrong with driver tweaking like this if you atleast know that its going on. Some people may actually be playing Quake3 on a slower computer but with an ATI video card and might like a bit of speed boost that this optomization could provide. I don't think its ethical in the sense that you can be unbiased by the benchmarks that this provides because of it but in the sense that it does speed quake3 up for players who might want smoother framerates its ok.
You can make an accurate estimation on how long it takes to create a software application by knowing your developers, what needs to be done, and how well they previously worked on projects. Sure there can be set backs, buts thats why its an estimation. It depends on what your making too of course, I don't think you can just set a specific date for something as big as a wordprocessing suite or a 3D game but for something along the line of a website, database, etc. You should be able to fairly accurately base your estimation of past work. Setting deadlines can be great motivators, giving company bonuses for meeting those deadlines are pretty nice as well. If nobody sets a deadline for you then you might never motivate yourself to finish it.
We've known since the before the trials of the original supersonic planes that objects can break the soundbarrier in the atmosphere. Everytime you fire a gun it does it, thats how they knew there were building their planes wrong when they all ways fall apart because the sound wave begins to drag on the plane as you accelerate and if your plane isnt narrow enough to punch through the wall your dragging it will rip the wings off your plane.

Hope they got a good virus scanner
If they can increase the storage amount so much that they can fit 5 hours of cd quality music on a quarter, I would just as well have them bump up a standard cd size disc to a 500 gigs. I know for a fact that I lose cds. How am I gonna keep track of a quarter sized disc.

Has anyone ever seen a computer mouse that looks and feels like a real mouse? I think it would be a pretty funny novelty item.

Sierra Online is supposedly doing games on all the books, including the hobbit with the fellowship to be released in 2002.
The T-800 was melted but his arm was stuck in the gear and never got totatly destroyed.

George Lucas and James Cameron will have a new storage medium to boycott and then re-release their movies on!

maybe it emulates the SMS with the processor in the DVD player. It wouldn't need much ram for a small rom like that.
