Why do they deserve better? They're not clamoring, they're not fighting, or at least the masses aren't.
It's easy to forgot very recently our ancestors had conditions that pale compared to us. At least here in the USA things are pretty peachy compared to feudal times. The beds most sleep on and the "bare minimums"(TV, reading, Music) at times exceed what the richest had back several hundred years ago.
Imagine telling your great great great grandfather you sleep on a matress with bedspring, have access to limitless books, and music can be heard anytime anywhere.
Can things get better? Yes, not everyone in the world lives like people here in the US, but most people don't care or think about it.
I'm glad there are those here that do, it will be us who will work to set things right. But I do not foresee having any help from others.
Yeah that sucks, if I was buying for Linux games I'd have to go with Nvidia, always had no problems with their drivers for linux. They won't beat out ATI imho for windows games and such, but if linux is your thing always go with nvidia.
I do not think the NV40 will be out any time soon as they are marketting the NV35 as the card built for Doom III.
ATI on the other hand has the R400 coming down the this holiday season. I've been wowed by the R300/350 based cores and can't wait until laptops start getting Mobility 9600's. ATI could drop the ball of course, just like Nvidia did with the NV30, that would be an interesting race at that point. ATI would have to hope their R450 could beat out the unreleased NV40.
Picture an office using high speed wireless. They could pick up shop and move someplace else if need be without worrying about it being wired.
Granted most office space is/should be wired, but by choosing a place that isn't could save you a lot of money. You might even want to have your business very mobile.
Since it's a segway story and I ranted recently on these things I'll do it again here.
First off if you are considering buying one of these things, goto your cabinet, find one of those things they call a pot, hit yourself on the head.
Secondly, realize that you can do all that a Segway can do WITH A BIKE!!!! All that and you get EXERCISE. Now I understand that the segway is a perfect personification of the Lazy Fat American Dream, but really exercise is gooooood.
A bike also weighs less, costs less, and can go down stairs, on grass and dirt.
Don't get me wrong the tech is pretty cool, but it's evil I'm sure the thief will return it with a note "Sorry it looked awfully fancy for a paperweight, I thought it might actually have been useful."
Morpheus is actually a T1000, flesh over metal endoskeleton, sent to infiltrate Zion, find the one and kill him.
The music and sound, acting and directing.

My opinion on the music was that it sucked. The first one had great songs, the ones in this movie were lackluster. POD, Linkin Park?
These groups can do good songs, but not this time around. Not one song stuck with me at all. Everyone I think can hear the music from the first one when they recall certain scenes, ie the lobby scene. I actually got the soundtrack for the first one cause it was really good, and I'm not even a real "techno" fan.
So that's that, the second thing and this might've just been the theater and my position(although I was right smack dab in the middle) was that the sound lacked power. Landed punches felt about as powerful as fly smacking into a window.
Lastly, that speech by Morpheus was rather painful. Fishbourne(sp?) is a much better actor than that scene showed.
Why are the traitors bald guys with facial hair? And didn't Tank survive?
I have never had problems installing new anything when I took the proper steps beforehand. I too had problems with ATI's driver when it came to the 7500AIW(I didn't do what I should've), but other experiences were great.
First download the latest drivers. You can use the ones that came with the card, but why? Uninstall your old drivers, reoot. Don't let windows automatically detect and install new drivers. Run the setup for the drivers, reboot. Run the setup for the control panel, reboot.
If you're installing a new mobo. Reboot into safe mode. Set all chipset specific drivers to "Standard Drivers" (IDE, System Resources). Shutdown, swap mobos, reboot.
Could this be easier? Of course, you should just have to restart the machine presto chango. But that's not how things work. This goes for all hardware, not just ATI, but Nvidia also, unless you're in the mood to troubleshoot.
I loved my GF2, but the price/performance of my 9500Pro with the hacked bios and overclocked is amazing. Plus I'm a big fan of AA/AF.
It's pretty clear that the ATI drivers released currently have problems with Doom III, considering they're showing off D3 at E3 I bet those numbers jump right up with the next driver release.
I read this article
MacNet article
And they mention that AAC is crap quality compared to Mp3, and that others have said the same. Any slashdot comments on this? Certainly no point in paying $.99 for crap.
The entire article is good.
I agree, it is only a matter of time before bugs in any software are found. You let this lawsuit go through and nothing will ever get released.
The development cycle would be insane. There might be a new release every 10 years, and guess what even then there will be bugs!
It's like farmers buying seed from a company then complaining when their crops don't grow. All the while only taking care of them half the time. Sure 100% of the seeds might not take root(pun) but you never even tried.
Could MS write better software, sure, but show me one sysadmin who honestly thinks that software is secure from the get go and I'll show you someone that you need to replace. It's just the facts of this reality, work to change it but don't act like you didn't know better.
I don't believe they ignored the problem or didn't fix it. IIRC they had a patch out 6 months beforehand.
You want to sue someone, sue the sysadmins who A) Didn't patch B) Left MS SQL right out on the open internet C) In short didn't do their jobs.
If you're running MS products it might not be by choice, but there is no excuse for not being aware of patches and the state of your firewall. They were all probably too busy rebooting Windows desktops to have time, but still.
No offense, but if you studied computer science because you thought there was easy money to be made, you did it for all the wrong reasons.
Unfortunately that's what the vast majority of people goto college for nowadays. It's not to stimulate their minds, it's simply done in order to get a higher paying job. This does not apply to everyone, so don't take it like that. It just seems that way.
On a side note, I got bored with CS classes and school in general, majored in History cause it interested me the most intellectually and spent my free time with computers. So I got to enjoy learning two subjects without burning myself out on computers. I had no problems getting job offers once I started looking, and I attribute most of that luck to the fact that I had projects I could show I worked on, rather than some dull list of languages I learned in school. My personal projects showed that I had a passion for what I did and had no problems as a self starter. Just my take on things.
One last thing, CS is Computer Science. To me being listed as a science makes it more of an academic pursuit, something that you would want to go on and get a PHD and do research... If you want to go into business go for MIS. imho
Actually the performance wasn't so bad. The problem was that there were legal issues concerning the VIA's right to make such chipsets. This led to few large OEM mobo makers to use the chips, making it hardly worth investing in.
Now that the issues are settled though, you can expect to see more competition from VIA's new P4 chipset that will support 800Mhz FSB CPU's.
We are afforded guns to keep a militia which was meant to prevent the federal gov't from becoming too powerful.
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Nothing in there about having the guns to protect yourself from criminals. Honestly, unless you fear the neighborhood that you live in so much that you sleep with a loaded gun next to you (perfectly legal) there is no reason to have your guns not locked up in a safe. And somehow I don't think that will help you when a person breaks into your house.
Why do they deserve better? They're not clamoring, they're not fighting, or at least the masses aren't.

No no no, Morpheus is a T800 Terminator, flesh over metal endoskeleton.
It's still annoyingly slow of a 2GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM. Probably will always be slow.

Why did you drop several hundred dollars without researching if it would work with what you wanted?
It's like a person with a Mac bitching that the new Game they just got doesn't work because they assumed it was Mac compatible.
I do not think the NV40 will be out any time soon as they are marketting the NV35 as the card built for Doom III.

Just a thought.
What's the cost difference between 'a' and 'g'? I understand the advantage of having 'g' work with 'b' but if you're building from the ground up?

Synthetic Sandra are nice, but I'd rather he ran 3dmark2001. It's what I would've done ::)

America's Army gets an upgrade
Discusses America's Army servers now using AMD Opterons, very nice, also of note UT2k3 and CS are going to be running on this type of server as well.
Good quotes on getting people to port to Linux so that they can easily take advantage of 64bits or just recompiling what they already have.
You think they'll just throw money at this thing until it eats into gameboys market share enough?
The gameboy SP is pretty sweet from the little bit I played it. I'll be tough to beat. I do hope that Sony's media can take a beating.
You need a better powersupply. I'd wager big that it's not enough to handle any new card that requires more voltage than it can get from the AGP slot.

OK, the patch was a bit of a pain to install. So, let's say after review it was found that patching wasn't worth the downtime.
How bout them firewalls? If your MS SQL server has to talk to others over the internet, how bout restricting that port to certain IPs?
*reaches over and turns down the volume on the speakers*
