  2. The Only Way I Can Learn Math on Proof That Practice Does Make Perfect · · Score: 1

I pick up most non-technical subjects easily, but anything that involves mathematics I have to practice, practice, practice.

I filled notebooks for algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and basic physics classes with example equations and practice problems - it was the only way I could be sure I would remember them at test time.

And then I would promptly forget them. Although it wouldn't take as long as the first time I learned how to solve a quadratic equation, I couldn't do it unless I had an example to work from.

English, history, etc., all I had to do was listen in class, take a few notes, and review before a test.

I really envy folks who are intuitive with mathematics and related subjects like music.

Now I'm watching for camera lenses for a new Canon 40D (bought from Amazon), but my wife (who checked out several 40Ds on eBay) warned me about these scam rings and that cameras and camera accessories are a favorite bait to lure unknowing buyers.

Apparently the eBay ratings system can be gamed. Does anyone know of a way to confirm a seller is legit before placing a bid?

So many Americans have no idea of their true origins because of the transitory nature of our culture - successive generations who pick up and move and settle and then the next generation repeats the process. Our family histories are lost in the shuffle.

My father's family history ends four generations ago in Cairo, Illinois. We can guess from the family name that it probably originated in Scotland, possibly came through Ireland, and then arrived in America. But no one knows for sure and no one knows what other blood may have been added to the line after it arrived in the New World. I'd like to know, for curiosity's sake, but I'll wait until the price comes down a bit (more proof of my Scots heritage).
