I am fairly new to owning a PC, although I have worked with and on them for quite a while. I decided I wanted a PC for gaming, while having my G4 for everything else I do. A simple request, no?
I bought a PC with 'quality parts': ASUS/VIA mobo, AMD processor, Nvidia video card, Maxtor hard drive, M$ keyboard and mouse (their hardware is quality:), Creative sound card. And what do I get? Frequent crashes, with a minimal system setup, doing nothing except a couple games. Then I find out there is a compatability problem between the VIA chipset and the Nvidia video card. Also because of the VIA chipset (or is it AMD's fault? nobody knows) I can't use any T-Bird procs in my computer unless I buy another mobo. Lame, if I do say so myself.
On the other hand, I have had my G4 for almost a year now and have had No problems with it other than the ones I cause myself. (like hacking the system files while theyre being used:)
Just goes to show that 'quality products' do not always mean quality computing.
I think this was a double joke on the part of the Taconater. First, that TMBG would NEVER do anything like that, and that blocking NFS is just as stupid and unlikely as blocking Napster ports. Or blocking IRC traffic. Or FTP's. MP3 will never die, etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda.
I saw this a while back also. He took a Power Mac 9600 (one of the best computers ever made IMNSHO:) and put it into the case of the//gs. He even went so far as to put the newer mouse mechanism into the old mouse housing. WAY too much free time there...:)
The reason they advertise in gigabits is because you can say gigabits in larger quantities, and it's still the same thing. i.e. 400 > 50, yet 400Gb == 50GB. It's all about the marketing, baby...
I never really cared for The Simpsons. If there was nothing else on, I might watch it, or just go read a book or something.:)
But then Futurama came along, and WHAM!, I was hooked. It was hilarious (Bender shitting bricks, black markets for body parts, etc.) and it involved the future, which is always cool.
Then Fox started playing hockey with Futurama's time slot, one week on Tuesday, next week on Sunday, three weeks not even on the air, whatever. That really pissed me off, because I am not alone in loving this show, and Fox can't keep it in the same spot two weeks straight.
First off, I liked the movie, and I would like to let out a rant that has been festering for a while (like since the movie came out).
Have you ever watched the first Star Wars movie with the same 'discerning' eye you've turned towards Episode One? If you did, you would notice bad acting (Harrison Ford being the only half-decent actor at the time) annoying characters, and all the stuff you hated from Episode One.
In all the time we were waiting for Episode One to come out, I only saw one actual commercial/ad for the movie that wasn't pushing another product. Pepsi, TriCon (Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC) and all the other people using Star Wars as a crutch in their advertising.
...is the Mac. I know they are not great for high-end stuff (but just wait for MOSX! MWAHAHHAA!!!!) but theyre really good for a cheap low to medium load server, be it mail, web, print, whatever. Set it and forget it. Almost no maintenance. I have an old 7100, on system 8, that has been up for at least 5 months, running my website. Last time I had to reboot it was, like so many others, a power outage. When I get my G4 in January, my G3 will replace the 7100, which will be cool.
Man oh man, was that 'abridged' Matrix script hilarious! Dude! Like, totally! I'm gonna have to watch the movie again now that I've thought about it again...
BTW, as much as that may have sounded like sarcasm, it really wasn't. It *was* funny!
While I do agree that M$ is evil, etc. they do make a couple good products, including their joysticks, some of their mice, and some games (CC, AOE). But, I will never use Office (bloated more than their OS itself) and will not use Windowze without provocation.
Could this be some extremely belated (like 2 years) news/rumors about the Sega Dreamcast? That runs WinCE and seems to be positioned as a PSX-killer...
No, what happens is that the player recognizes that the thing is fast forwarding and that charges the internal non removeable Lithium Ion batteries. Same thing for rewind. Heh. Cool.
Well, one option is to turn your threshold to -1. Did you try that?
Also, while it sucks that HL is not coming to the Mac, I am not too worried. I have three computers: an old Power Mac as a voice controlled MP3 jukebox, a Windowze box for games, and a beige G3 (soon to be a Graphite G4, mwahahhahahaaa...) for everything else.
Does anyone really care if they bundle a movie made by Jobs' 'other' company? I don't know if you've seen it, but I think it was a kickass movie in story, humor and the sheer beauty of the landscapes (especially that last shot pulling away from the island).
I think you must have something in your throat, because there was never a 5300 that burned in the ownership of a consumer. The only place that happened was after their release in Apple testing labs, and it was a problem with the contacts on the then new-tech. Lithium-Ion batteries, which I think Sony made (I can't remember exactly). Apple did good to immediately recall all of them and replace them with NiMH batteries to fix the problem. This is unlike another company which just tried to keep it quiet and hope nobody noticed (think 2 + 2 = 3.9999999999).
I like Macs, and I use PCs (one for games and one for everything else). While I probably wouldn't buy an iMac, I wouldn't complain if someone gave one to me. G4 for me, baby!

I think it's amazing what these people are doing with storage these days. More room for my MP3s. :)

They also had the things that *were* penny sized in Escape from LA. You know, the one that had the "666" shut down all electricity code on it...
BTW, I did like EFLA, which a lot of people seemed to hate. Maybe it's because I haven't seen EFNY yet.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Slashdotting!

Last I heard, Apple had a 13.5% share of the market, and that was around Macworld Expo in January. It's probably closer to 19-20% now.
