When companies like Novell were first approached by M$, they should have gone to the Linux Foundation, or EFF. Instead they took a payday that inherently casts a doubt of suspision upon the entire Linux community. And while I was a fan of SuSe and many of the things they did, I will never again advocate the use of any Novell products, nor any major distro/vendor that strikes such a deal. I switched... switched from SuSE to Ubuntu, and I recommend Ubuntu/Fedora to most of my friends and colleagues who want to try out Linux. I know this is not going to hurt them, but it's something..

well india has a large number of pirated Windows running on assembled PCs (mainly cos of the cost factor). now m$ doesn't want to go right up and prosecute people and lose market share to Linux (yes! since this is a growing market more people stand a chance to grow up with Linux desktops :)

what does m$ do? well they start to sell PCs which can directly compete with cheap options while giving people the option of Genuine (dis)Advantage..

This includes books too, a famous example was a few years ago, when a biography of soccer star Garrincha was pulled out of bookstores at the request of his daughters. The reason? It was stated in the book, based on his lovers' declarations, that Garrincha's penis was approximately 27 cm (11 inches) long. Now i'm not a grammar fanatic, but: Garrincha had an 11" *****, had a *lover*, AND had daughters?!!

Giving John Doe in software development a raise and stock options will not make Yahoo! the number one search engine. Changing their business plan (if they have one) and offering something that every other search engine doesn't will. and how do you think they'll come up with that 'something innovative'. No matter what kind of process/model you follow it's the *people* who work there that will make the difference. Remember, not everyone is a John Doe, and those special people need to feel like the place where they work is part of them in order to motivate them and get the best. otherwise it's just a matter of time. so i go with GP.

Well, yes & no. It really was Con's RSDL that got ppl looking seriously into changing the mainline scheduler (there already being several out-of-mainline alternatives like nicksched, etc.)

Con's scheduler seemed to work better at higher workloads than the mainline, by just trying to distribute load evenly and not trying pretty interactivity tricks. But several ppl did say it didn't perform well for certain X client workloads. That's when Ingo's CFS was posted.

There really is 2 alternatives Ingo's CFS & Con's SDL that's being simultaneously tested by the kernel developers now, and none is accepted into mainline.

So it wouldn't be fair to say that CFS is *the* next Linux scheduler. It could be SDL as well.
