I've used VoIP in a corporate enviroment where you can use various methods of Quality of Service and in that enviroment you could not tell a VoIP call from a standard phone call. With no QoS VoIP sucks.

I use Linux as my main OS, but I still have VMWare with Windows running inside of it for two reasons: pcAnyhwere (no, vnc just doesn't work as well or as fast) and Internet Exploder (for the occasional site I want to go to that requires it). I also run Windows as the only OS on my laptop. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why I still run it on the laptop.....
I want a reliable fan that the bearings don't go out on every year or so. Noise is a secondary issue. Are there any out there? I've started using ball bearing (rather than sleeve bearing) fans and they do last somewhat longer, but still start making grinding noises and vibrating after a year or so.
To say that 'we can't sign an NDA, therefore this is discriminatory against as' (as was implied in the article) is facetious. The Samba Team can sign an NDA, and it wouldn't violate GNU at all. They can even purchase access to the API's, they just can't release the aforementioned API's under GNU (as is spelled out in GNU) Or am I wrong?
If Microsoft requires royalties from any products built with info provided to you from Microsoft, then you are wrong.
I still miss DESQview/X's window manager. It was fast, had a clean interface, and supported using a keyboard to navigate instead of a mouse. I wish someone had ported it to other *nixes, but since it was written in x86 assembly I'm not suprized it never happened.
I work from home doing tech support so I'm sometimes on the phone for 8+ hours a day. Oviously I don't need to be on the cordless the entire time. I think what I'm going to end up doing is replacing current base station and handset with one that supports two handsets, that way I can have one charging while I'm using the other one.

I have RingMaster (two phone numbers) on my telephone line. I also have a version of call forwarding that only forwards the primary number. I call forward my main number to a disconnected number in another state.
I give out my secondary number to people I want to contact me. The phone company only seems to sell the primary number (which is forwarded to a disconnected number). I never did get many telemarketing calls on my secondary number. Now I get 1 or 2 telemarketing calls per MONTH.
What happens to TiVo and other DVR boxen now? once analog is gone, and the HDTV digital tuner is embedded into the box, there's no access point to divert the data to a third-party box.
What you do is buy a digital tv tuner -> analog output(with RF, Composite, S-VIDEO) box LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WITH A PRE-DITITAL TV WILL BE DOING. Heck, according to the marketdroids these boxes won't cost more than $100 for a low end box at the time the analog broadcast goes away.
Why do we have a content preference measuring system that only measures preference about what broadcasters are currently 'throwing at the wall'?
Why don't they measure what consumers want *before* the fact?

Not all of the rest of the world works as you do. A real estate company is an example of the way far too many companies work. At real estate companies most of the agents tend to have the status of "contractor". They are required to buy their own computer, they are even required to pay rent for their desk and their phone. Since they are the ones making money for the company they pretty much get to do anything they want to with their computer.

Well, I guess I can delete my TiVo Season Pass now.
Actually they give you a Cisco ATA 186 which is a single port VoIP Gateway with an ethernet port and a FXS port (FXS is what you plug a phone into).
Only $2? The Florida Do-Not-Call List is $10 to put your phone number on the list.
