isn't that standard in America? when I visited I saw a sign on a lift that said floors "x thru y". it stuck in my mind because I thought it was stupid to use a word in the first place let alone an abbreviated one when a simple dash would be far better.
a study about this a while ago explained why talking on the phone is much worse than talking to a passenger. basically it's because the low-quality of the audio means your brain filters out the noise and fills in the breaks. also there is no body language component. YOU HAVE NO CONTROL AT ALL OVER THIS FACT ANY MORE THAN YOU CAN CONTROL THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL.
this is why even hands-free are worse than passengers.
talking on a phone while driving is very dangerous. it has been quantified scientifically many times. just get over it and stop trying to justify your illegal, selfish and anti-social behaviour.
>Using a lightgun (or the Wiimote) is indeed much more tiring than using a mouse, especially if you're standing up.
jeez, it's not like the game forces you to stand up. sit down if you want, you're a big boy now and don't need to ask permission.

Wii-mote In Action

the biggest FUD about the Wiimote is that people NEED to make big movements.
When people play the tennis game, for example, for the first time and are told to move as if it's real, that's because it's the simplest and most intuitive way of explaining the control mechanism to them. It doesn't mean you have to play with big realistic motions. They can play instantly, whereas if you start saying things like "to do a backhand with topspin make a curving motion with the controller tilted inwards" it just makes things sound complicated.
So don't worry: you can play the Wii sitting down and making small movements just as well as you can standing up and swinging your arms about.
His counter-argument about Nintendo not being innovative with the Wii or DS is that the games industry hasn't been innovative for the last 10 years so why would it change now? Er... okay.
Meanwhile, he wants to sell his books and push his "Storytronics"... geez, the 1970s called and want their cool innovative name back.
>In my mind, it might have both, but a substandard rendition of both...
the controller is definitely substandard - it just has nowhere near the modes of freedom of the wiimote, plus the wiimote has the nunchuck component which is also motion sensitive.
and it's hard to imagine Sony will do better than xbox live without charging anything for it. when was the last time you heard about Sony actually making life enjoyable for its customers? remember the official announcements from Sony about how important they think in-game advertising will be?
who has a DVD collection but not a DVD player? who likes the idea of buying DVDs but hasn't bothered to get one yet? who can't buy a DVD player for about 10 big macs anyway? who thinks DVD playback is actually worth writing on the box, let alone comprimising an entire "it's all about fun games" business strategy and marketing campaign over?
er, no, get a clue. HE was the one suggesting people grow up. I was telling him to take his own advice but reserved all rights to not do the same. so screw you muhahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
>...is likely to still loses thousands of dollars under the best scenario...a loser-pays court system is the only reasonable way, like in the UK.
no wonder the USA legal system is so fucked if you can do no wrong, tell the truth, and still by charged money that is a significant part of your wages. whereas companies can provably break laws, be found guilty, and still be charged a meaningless fraction of their profit.
after bitching about someone else's lack of understanding of English and then posting this I have no sympathy for you even though I agree with your point.
>- Image Constraint Token will keep me from watching HD movies in HD (no evidence this will happen)
hahahhahahahahahahaaaaa yeah right, Sony went to the trouble of implementing DRM and restrictions just so they could NOT use them. seems like YOU need to grow up and get a grip on reality. it has been admitted that the only reason the token will not be used ON LAUNCH TITLES is to help with adoption. once market share has been gained they will go back on their word so fast even we-promise-prices-will-come-down-CD-manufacturers' heads will spin.
>I think the day that some smart developer thinks of how to use the Wii controller for a first person shooter is the day that console FPS games like Halo become irrelevant.
there will be at least 2 at launch: Red Steel and Metroid.
unless you mean "graphics better than previous consoles but not as good as high end PCs ('super-hardcore')" then this 'hardcore' stuff is just more marketing BS.

the prefix + stem + suffix model is far better than this phonetic bullshit.
e.g. centre, centripetal, centrifuge are all connected concepts and share the stem "centr".
the American spelling "center" has the stem "cent" which suggests center is something to do with 100; a center is a machine/person that makes cents?
you only make things more difficult for yourself in the long run if you wimp out of learning things properly in the beginning.
>Sony beat Microsoft to win the last World Cup (and Nintendo barely got out of the first round)
and twisting the analogy even further, Nintendo still managed to walk away with the trophy since they actually made a profit on consoles.
MS came second in the final but most of their players left the game as cripples.
Sony was pleased with their victory, and then Ronaldo-style sat back and got really fat.
they can't be dead because they need to kick off at least after the first goal.
calling it a computer is just a tax scam. they tried it with the PS2 but the judge recently gave them the smackdown.
there should be some definition, something like it's only a computer if you can write and run your own code without needing a licence.

so they are placing restrictions on the ability to obtain and share information based on the possibility that some users may abuse that ability?
hmmm.....

>otherwise this will be another victory for MSFT.
you misspelled Nintendo. Microsoft isn't even winning* NOW, how the hell will things get better when they actually have some next-gen competition?
*in Japan the Gamecube is beating the 360 in weekly sales and Europe doesn't give a crap about the 360 either.
DVD player!? are you fucking kidding!?
why tax EVERYONE for such a non-feature?
who has a DVD collection but not a DVD player? who likes the idea of buying DVDs but hasn't bothered to get one yet? who can't buy a DVD player for about 10 big macs anyway? who thinks DVD playback is actually worth writing on the box, let alone comprimising an entire "it's all about fun games" business strategy and marketing campaign over?
omg. you're so wrong.
why drop cartridges? so we can have no battery life like the PSP?
Nintendo's whole philosophy is that game size isn't important, the fun is. I agree, if you don't then just spend your money elsewhere.
Nintendo is doing fine. unlike Sony and MS they actually make a profit on their games. And I find them the most enjoyable.
when was the last time you went to a lecture on the ozone hole?
I went to one last year where all those questions were addressed.
if it's 225 dollars, then here in the UK it will be 225 pounds. FACT.
still a good price in absolute terms though.

but in the past whenever people would talk about Sony wanting to tie games to individual consoles they'd always get modded troll.
the warnings were there. just like with this blu-ray downsampling BS.
the nunchuck is also motion-sensitive, for example in Red Steel you move it forward sharply as if pushing on a door to open doors.
so why is MS and Sony associated with 'hardcore' and not Nintendo? I've had 8+ hours Super Smash Bros. sessions on my GameCube with friends
