  1. Re: tl;dr on Why Tech Support Is (Purposely) Unbearable · · Score: 1

Two I encountered last week after speaking with tech support folks:

    http://en.community.dell.com/

    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/

Dell's phone eventually (2nd try) got me someone who understood the problem and escalated it. HP's guy explained to me that the problem I was having with the USB keyboard not functioning in the BIOS setup was due to my not having installed the Windows USB 3.0 drivers :-)

The companies that provide excellent technical support on the first contact have dwindled alarmingly. Supermicro, Mellanox, and Intel have provided consistently excellent support when I've contacted them. Others have by and large been hit or miss.

I agree. But more and more company websites no longer have an option to email for support. They provide links for only chat and phone. And of course they try to push you onto their "user forums" where other folks who have hit similar problems bitch about the fact that the manufacturer doesn't fix the problems; at least it lets folks let off steam.

So the Comodo product can then use the term to refer to their product(s) and ride on the coattails of the nonprofit service's good name; but no other company will be able to use that term "In Trade". Profit!

Actually, someone working at Pulse Orlando took the trouble to post an emergency message on their Facebook page to the folks who were there: "... That someone presumably on the scene had both the presence of mind and the courage to type out that message during the attack impressed me greatly.

But I guess that if everybody had their phones locked up in a bag that would have been an especially futile gesture indeed. Perhaps luckily for some who survived the attack, Alicia Keyes wasn't on the bill that night.

The security crew is there to protect "the venue" and/or "the venue's" owners first. Once that's squared away maybe they'll look after the customers.

And how can I be sure even that (a) " the venue has a fully staffed security crew" or (b) that the crew such as it is has any training relevant to dealing with emergent situations? Businesses all over have been cutting staff to the bone to perk up their bottom line. The management of any given "venue" might decide that they don't need a "fully staffed" crew and that the crew members that they do employ don't need any "specific training".

Finally, a "fully staffed crew", trained or not, isn't going to help much if the message I'm not able to receive is that there's an urgent situation that I need to attend to away from "the venue".

And how, exactly, would my reading a text message telling me of an urgent situation interfere with anyone else's enjoyment of the show anyway?

The "195 - 205 F" recommended temperature range you quote is the brewing temperature, not the serving temperature. Unless McDonalds serves each cup as soon as it's brewed, and I doubt that they are, they are purposely holding the temperature high before serving it. In fact, keeping brewed coffee hot diminishes its flavor, so what they are doing makes no sense except to keep some customers from complaining that by the time they brought their cup of coffee to the office it wasn't hot anymore.

In it, the elder Mateen speaks in the Dari language on a variety of political subjects. He doesn't always make much sense. Dozens of videos are posted on a channel under Seddique Mateen's name on YouTube. A phone number and post office box that are displayed on the show were traced back to the Mateen home in Florida. Mateen also owns a nonprofit organization under the name Durand Jirga, which is registered in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

In one video, Mateen expresses gratitude toward the Afghan Taliban, while denouncing the Pakistani government.

“Our brothers in Waziristan, our warrior brothers in [the] Taliban movement and national Afghan Taliban are rising up,” he said. “Inshallah the Durand Line issue will be solved soon.”
