    In the bathrooms too? In the fields? Somebody goes on a shooting spree next the phone in the room, how do you call? Most college campuses are now deploying emergency sms warning systems. This is going the opposite way.

    As an aside, the IT department at work has kept a running tally on how long it's been since we've been thanked for our work at the company picnic. I've been here for 6 years... nothing yet. Meanwhile, the lowliest assistant gets a mention (and even sometimes [some assistant's] husband or wife, "for moral support").

    They haven't paid you in 6 years?

    Maybe they (people responsible for new policy) are thinking computer users that have this data are too stupid to realize what they are sharing when they install p2p software on the same computer that has this data.

    Sorry man, I started reading it and it was interesting then it was like blah and I skipped to the end and didn't see and and started reading it again more times but I could care less how many people are using it so I skipped over a little bit and I couldn't find it and then tried reading it again and you really should make paragraphs or something because even though there is something useful in there I just couldn't find it so then I was distracted and I tried reading it again after you replied to me and I still could see it. I wanted to prove to myself that indeed the name of the company was in there so I used to search command on the browser after I already knew the name of the company was TraCorp and then sure enough it showed up and you were right.

    See I used the name of the company too but no one is going to find it because my paragraph was so tedious.

    Sorry man, I'm trying to be funny but I kinda want to make this point too. And thank you for replying.

    I won't be able to win if I argue with you :)

    If I say: well if 6 people send me each a 10MB file then I'll be over quota

    you will probably say: email is not for sending big files, you should use "blah"

    I will counter that it's the most convenient way for off-network or off-company people to send me the files

    But you will say this is abuse of email and if you were my sys admin, you would hurt me.

    Then I will say technology is here to serve me not so I conform to it and if everything was used for its original purpose, there would never be technological progress

    But you won't listen because your in power of the said technology it's your way or the highway.

    Then I would forward everything to Gmail bypassing/compromising all the security that you set up b/c I'm just a user and I want my way...

    it's not like windows is better whith the crapload it sends back when it calls home and having to "authenticate" my computer or allowing me to play my files. it's my fucking computer. I'll do what I want on it. so calling me ballmer is so in bad taste since I try to work my life not to give MS money. I even chose not to buy a ford because it had sync in it. competition is not just a click away. look how many sites run analytics for example. mabe it's a tor away:)

    Really? Thanks. It's still an important thing to discuss. I can't bring myself to install anything made by google on my mac because of the sneaky hidden way it installs the updater. I can't imagine I'll ever trust an entire OS. I don't care if it's open source and if someone will clean it. Might as well install a clean linux distro to start with.

    As consumers we should NOT have to put up with copy protection crap.

    But dumb consumers will put up with it, and they are the majority and so will drive the market.

    Short of a rich company with a huge marketing/education campaign, I don't know what else can change (make aware) public perception of DRM.

    I think this has more to do with a pyramid of needs. Once you have enough sleep, you think about water. Once you have enough water, you think about nutrition. Once you have enough nutrition, you think about the food tasting good, and so on.

    Is this Maslow? Are you trying to push your pyramid of needs again?

    Depends what you mean by graduate, and a BS in chemistry is worthless and will get you crappy quality control jobs. You have to get a higher degree to do anything with chemistry that a trained chimp can't. I'm a chemist too.

    kI changed the color scheme as well, but I think they mess with other things like spashscreens for openoffice.org (they make them brown also) so you have a nice non-brown theme and you open oo.o and there just to spite you is a brown spashscreen for a few seconds.

    Not if you don't have admin rights and the admins don't bother. My point was that if these were the settings by DEFAULT, lazy admins don't have to bother.
