Glossy screens look more attractive when sold in stores. I guess that's why so many manufacturers choose such screens over matte screens, simply because presentations look better. Furthermore, black looks better on glossy screens, which seems to be a huge selling-point with both TV sets and monitors nowadays.

As an aside, did anyone notice that half of the Slashdot description sounded like an advertisement for Asus GPU cooling? Advertisement or announcement? Does it really matter, since most news items could be considered as advertisements?

I think the talk about the cooling is important since one of the most difficult tasks is not how to get three GPUs on a single chip, but to get a viable cooling solution that doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner and one that doesn't require too much space (or it would essentially kill the whole concept).

Are you serious or just trying to get modded as 'Funny'? The word budget should be a clear indicator to any gamer that this laptop is not intended for gaming. History will tell you the very same thing. It is true that laptops have become more capable at the lower segments, but 3D power has remained consistent (more or less). Budget segments will always target businesses and people who intend to browse the web, check e-mail and so forth. Maybe that will change some day, but not in the next five years.

We saw something like this with Blu-Ray when HDDVD was announced to be dead. You're obviously correct that Intel would drop the fast pace a bit and increase the rates, but comparing this situation to the media disk war of HDDVD and BD is just wrong. The industry was basically waiting for a winner because two competitors on this type of market is just too much. Certainly, the industry is not waiting for AMD or Intel to die.

On the other hand, I doubt that Intel would eliminate competition completely because there is certainly room for more than just one company. I'm not saying AMD is going to survive, but sometimes the best thing for a business is to terminate and reinstate itself.

By any fair measure, the large premium we offered in January is even more significant today. We believe that the majority of your shareholders share this assessment, even after reviewing your public disclosures relating to your future prospects. If Microsoft is willing to pay a 62%+ premium, why is this not enough for Yahoo and why are they not making a counter-offer? I am not an expert, but to me, this sounds like extremely personal business.

Windows XP is actually selling remarkably well now that people agree Vista isn't what it once promised. Now that Microsoft is cutting off the supply, people will see piracy as a more viable option and say that it's either that or OSX/Linux.

Ironic how you can have multiple unique objects but if you use "unique" as a catergory they all become the same. Why is it ironic? Of course stars will always be unique because of differences in its mass (etc). But unique by category is not illogical at all. For example, if you have a 10 inches long tail, its length may be unique but the condition is not, since it is shared by others. However, if you were the only one to have a tail, your condition would be unique.

In other words, the world unique must not have anything to do with the mass, position or temperature of an object.

Microsoft is never going to win this one, and I think they know it .. And you say this because you are the average PC buyer? You know, Linux geek, Slashdot reader.. My friend runs an online store and 90% of his sales are laptops. It's not a small business since he's selling hundreds of lappies every month, so his facts are interesting. According to him, the Windows-equipped $499 laptops outsell the Linux-equipped $399 laptops 5 to 1.

I don't think the average Eee buyer is going to care much for specifications as much as they care for the whole concept, which is why I think you are wrong.

More interestingly, the Playstation 3 has shown that we aren't very picky about HD gaming when most games don't even play in 1080p, but considerably lower resolutions. Additionally, far from all titles play in optimal frame rates.

With a PC, you can do this at an added cost because what's new inside the console will eventually be replaced by faster PC hardware.

PC:s will always be better at high-end gaming, because consoles are unified pieces of hardware. You don't want to see a sticker on a game saying "only works with Playstation 3 v2.0. On a PC, you just lower the resolution or game details, but even a medium range computer of today can play games that are released in two years. And more importantly, we can upgrade them quite easily.
