Once you introduce magic or dragons or FTL travel or something, realism pretty much goes out the window.
Yes and no. I think it's easier to suspend disbelief for some stuff than for others. Maybe because we have no complete reference for dragons and FTL drives in the real world. Dodgy CGI humans like the ones in Blade something or other and spiderman break the illusion completely though.
I disagree, perhaps you could say they are all that is required "for the lazy of mind. When they're used correctly however, I feel they can enhance a strong story. Movies like Aliens and Terminator 2 just wouldn't be as good without special effects.
Yes actually I was kidding about the dirty hands bit. Good for you, I'm not. Dental dams are not commonplace in Ireland, I've never seen them for sale anywhere, I don't recall ever seeing one on TV either. They sound lovely.
All very true, but my point is that I do not believe that consenting adults who are aware of the risks would have to be fools to have unprotected oral sex. Sadly I haven’t conducted much research on this myself, having only gotten my hands dirty one or twice, but I don’t see that it would be nearly as much fun with a condom, and I’ve no idea how lesbians would have protected oral sex. So it’s not really the same as riding a bike with or without a helmet, it’s more like whether or not you bother taking the bike out at all.
I'm sure I'm missing something here since you mention there's irony floating about, but I don't quite follow why you feel justified in insinuating that the parent poster is a fool. In explicitly stating that protection was not used for oral sex, the implication is that is used for a modest amount of sleeping around. Is it the sleeping around or the lack of protection during oral sex that you consider foolish? Excluding chocolate flavoured condoms, I’m not sure why anyone would be interested in protected oral sex anyway. Also while I’m no expert on AIDS and peoples perception of it, your initial comment
Lets face it, there once was a big scare about aids and then it dropped off to the point that a lot of people believe the weirdest things and fuck around and with no protection.
seems to be just your experience of the phenomenon. I’m sure the practise is widespread, but I personally don’t know anyone would has unprotected sex outside of a long term relationship.
Where I'm from, the system is you don't have to pay for removal of recyclable waste so people save money by recycling, which is great. But the private companies that collect the waste do make money from recycling that waste, so we're not really getting a good deal. I suspect that even over a year though it wouldn't be enough money to be particularly bothered about.
While it doesn't actually bother me, being the cynic that I am, I do feel that most of these indicatives are designed with the simple goal of generating revenue for the few. If money can be made from composting and recycling, then the suppliers of the raw materials should be paid. I’m sure some this happens in some countries or cities, but it doesn’t where I come from.
How fast would the process be though? I'd wonder how many companies (and their shareholders) could suffer the upfront cost and subsequent interest of buying the land etc without an expected return within a year or 2.
Apple has money to spare. And the damage is already done
I have mixed feelings about this. Samsung got a slap in the face for sure, and this has already affected the design of their future products, so even if the court say otherwise, battle won by Apple. But I can't help but feel this was the first (or second ish) shot in a war that utltimitly Apple can't win.
My response was a bit brief, I guess. For a start, from reading the guys question, it seems like he's already done a bit of solo work and wants to try working for the man now, so I suspect CmdrPony's response is perhaps redundant. Secondly and more importantly, giving your own opinion is useful and everything, but it irks me with the original question is completely disregarded. I know that when I ask a question, I appreciate an answer. I may not like the answer since I've learned that sometimes there are silly questions, but it's still disrespectful to ignore the original question entirely.
The virus from the story is an RNA virus, so the mutation rate of that would likely render it useless in the target one person senario you mention. If we suppose some other type of virus was used, I suspect you would need the complete genetic knowledge of everyone, not just the target to be sure of no collateral damage. Long story short, I'll believe it when I'm dying from it.
That’s a rather condescending response that doesn't answer the question. There are very few offshore houses, mountains bridges and trees, so I don't see how you can be so confident that saturating these locations with turbines will have no negative consequences.
I think it must really depend on the deal being offered. Groupon were spamming me every day about some (expired:S) mattress deal recently. I can’t imagine that offer would lead to much repeat business from a typical/. user, since they don’t tend to wear a matress out that quickly... However I did find a nice restaurant recently because of a discount I purchased from a different company, and I would definitely consider eating there again even without the discount. The same could be true of these cupcakes, if they’re good value without the discount, it should definitely lead to new business, just maybe not 20Ks worth...
The scale of the change required is completely different. To exagerate a bit, comparing alcohol resistance to penicillin resistance is like saying humans evolving resistance to being dipped in acid is the same as them developing a resistance to athlete's foot.
I realise the cost would go up, but surely any bunker will fall to sustained bombardment. If one bomb doesn’t do it, drop 2 etc. Must go RTFA and see what sort a hole in the ground this thing leaves.
Seems impressive enough to me, maybe a bit useless though. Thinking of alternatives, it might be possible to do it with image recognition as well. Judge the distance by the size of the target iphone or whatever.
I can really relate to what you’re going through. It used to be easy to make money as a software developer, and then the internet came out, and all the jobs went to India, and oh no wait that was just another whinny post I read. I feel genuinely sad about the sorry state of the music industry, but whining about it isn’t any way to gain support.

If this startles you, I understand
I nearly fell out of my chair.
Sorry I don't have any +1s left
Yes actually I was kidding about the dirty hands bit.

indicatives wah? auto spell :S

Agreed, SAAs (Stupid Ass Acronyms) should be banned.

Maybe he should, maybe he shouldn't but either way that's the anwser to a question he didn't ask.

Probably more expensive in every measurable way.

Modding troll seems a bit harsh, I thought is was kinda funny.
So it's very heavy then?
